Is your dog displaying undesirable behaviors, such as inappropriate chewing or demand barking? They’re probably trying to let you know that they are bored!

Combat boredom with these fun solutions:
✅ Obedience or Agility Session - Keep their minds sharp and bodies active with training sessions!
✅ Hide ‘n Seek - Place your dog in a down-stay or send them to their “place,” and then hide somewhere! Keep calling them until they find you.
✅ Scent Work - Hide some treats in cardboard boxes and let your dog use their nose to to sniff them out!
✅ Snuffle mats & puzzle toys - Feed their curiosity and problem-solving skills!
✅ “Find It” Game - Toss a few treats and encourage your dog to find them! Start with one treat and gradually add more, spacing them out as you go.
✅ “Sniff-ari” Walks - Take a leisurely walk and let your dog take in all the scents on the way.

🐾✨ Keeping your pup safe and happy this New Year’s Eve! 🎉

Here’s how to ensure your furry friend has a safe and stress-free celebration:

1️⃣ Avoid unsafe holiday foods – Holiday meals are delicious, but they can be dangerous for dogs. Foods like chocolate, grapes, onions, garlic, and fatty meats can be harmful or even toxic to your pet. Make sure to keep these treats out of reach and stick to dog-safe snacks. 🍗🚫

2️⃣ Update ID tags and microchips, and make sure collars fit securely – With all the noise and excitement, pets can become scared and might run off. Ensure your dog’s collar is snug and the ID tag is updated with your current contact info. If they’re microchipped, double-check that the registration is up to date. 🏷️🐕

3️⃣ Exercise responsibly – Take your dog for a walk earlier in the day when it’s calmer, as fireworks and loud noises later can cause anxiety. After dark, keep them inside where it’s safe and quiet to avoid startling sounds and potential dangers. 🏃‍♀️🌙

4️⃣ Distract them with fun enrichment toys – Enrichment toys like Lick Mats or Puzzle Feeders are great for keeping your pup’s mind busy and distracted from the chaos of the holiday. Plus, they can help calm your dog down when the party noise starts to get overwhelming. 🧩🦴

5️⃣ Provide a secure, quiet spot – As celebrations go into the night, give your dog a safe haven. Set up a cozy, quiet spot away from the noise where they can relax and feel secure. A familiar space with their favorite blanket or toy can help them feel at ease. 🛏️💤

🐾 Health & Safety First! 🐾
At Zoom Roo], we want every pup to have a safe and fun training experience! 🐶 As we continue to work together to build a well-behaved, happy dog, here are some important health and safety reminders:

✅ Vaccination Records: All dogs must be up-to-date on their vaccinations before attending class. 🩺

✅ Greetings: For the safety of all dogs, greetings on leash are prohibited. This means your dog is not permitted to be face-to-face with another dog while the dogs are wearing a leash. Dogs should ALWAYS be on a secure leash during class. This means the leash is in your hands, under your feet, or secured to the wall at all times. Do not drop the leash or let your dog off leash without expressed permission from a trainer.

✅ Closed-toed shoes are required in the gym, especially for Agility and Pup-lates classes.

✅ Clean-Up: Please relieve dogs outside prior to entering the gym to prevent accidents. When accidents do happen, please use provided cleaning materials to clean up messes promptly.

✅ Children under 6 are not permitted in the gym*. They may observe from outside the gym with an adult to supervise them. Children over 6 may be in the gym with a parent, but an adult must be the primary handler and trainer of the dog. Children 12 years and older may be the primary handler with direct adult supervision and with trainer approval.

✅ If only one dog is present for a group class, it will be converted to a 30-minute private lesson instead. This is in the best interest of the dog, as 45 minutes of rigorous training is more than the average dog can handle. With an expert trainer’s undivided attention, 30 minutes is ample time to work towards your training goals.

🐾 Ready, Set, Train! 🐾

Pet parents, we’re excited to see you and your pups at class! 🐶✨ To ensure the best experience for both you and your dog, here’s a quick reminder to come prepared:

🦴 What to bring:
✅ Dogamat or Bed: Going forward, pet parents are asked to provide their own bed or mat for obedience and puppy classes. This will give your dog something familiar to practice with at home, and helps us ensure that we are continuing to provide a safe and sanitary environment for your dogs to train in.

✅ Leash & Collar/Harness: No retractable leashes, please!

✅ Treats: High-value rewards for your pup’s best behavior

✅ Water Bowl: Pet parents are also asked to bring their own water bowl going forward, to again help us ensure that our environment is sanitary and prevent cross-contamination from shared water bowls.

✅ Treat Pouch: Pet parents are HIGHLY ENCOURAGED to invest in some kind of waist-bag or pouch to hold treats. This ensures that you have both hands free to handle your dog, and will increase the quality and effectiveness of your training.

✅ Positive Attitude: We’re all about fun, patience, and progress!

Welcome to Training Tip Tuesday! This week: 🐾 Mastering the "Sit" Command: A Simple Guide 🐾 Teaching your pup to “sit” is one of the foundational commands for a well-behaved dog! Here’s how to do it: Use a yummy treat 🍖 to lure your dog’s head upward. As their head rises, their rear end will naturally lower into the “Sit” position. As soon as it does, mark the behavior with a “Yes!” and give the treat. Once they start getting the hang of it, say the cue “Sit” just before their rear end touches the floor. This helps them associate the action with the word. After some practice, fade out the treat and use a hand signal instead. 🙌 With consistency and patience, your pup will be sitting like a pro!
