Hey everyone! We’d like to introduce you to Squish, an affectionate and playful 4-year-old pup who’s eagerly waiting for his forever home! 🥰

He’s a bundle of fun and enjoys a good play session! Squish loves to chase after and retrieve toys, and he’s always up for a game of tug and chase. He’s a pro at playing fetch and enjoys a good game with squeaky toys. If you are looking for some affection, Squish is a cuddle bug! He loves pets from head to tail and will happily soak up all the attention you give him. In the garden, Squish likes to explore. He’s curious but always responds well to calls and is easy to guide back into the yard. He knows how to “sit” and takes treats gently, making him a joy to train and interact with. A few things to note, Squish can be a bit reactive to other dogs when he’s on the leash or when returning to his kennel, but staff and volunteers are working on this. This particular behavior has increased as his stay continues to draw on and has the chance of improving out of the shelter. He’s rough and rowdy and might be selective about his doggy friends, so he’d do best in a home where he can have a bit of space from other dogs. If you have a dog at home, our behavior team would be more than happy to speak with you about the best way to do introductions.

If you’re looking for a loving, energetic companion who will keep you entertained and shower you with affection, Squish is your guy! 🐕💖

Ready for his next chapter! 🌞

Georgie is a handsome young 3-year-old dog who can be convinced to try anything for a treat! Need a photo on a park bench or big rock? Show him a treat and he’ll eagerly give you his best pose! Time for training? A pocketful of treats and you have his attention!

He not only loves treats, though. Bring out a few toys and you have a fetch and tug partner! He also loves running in wide open spaces and splashing/swimming in anything from a little kiddie pool to a large garden waterfall. Be aware, shady mud puddles seem to be a great place to roll around and cool off on a hot day! Thankfully, he enjoys spa days too! He recently received a bath and nail trim from volunteers, enjoying all the attention and affection. He may need a little more practice on a leash and is learning to be more mannerly about jumping on people to get attention, although treats are working great on teaching him proper etiquette. He been to playgroup, having a push/pull style of play. He is social with other dogs, while still learning his playgroup manners. He is unknown around cats and young children but is a healthy, heartworm negative dog.

Georgie was found abandoned at a local dog park in the intense heat of early July. He would love a foster or adopter during these very crowded times at the PRC. Learn more about him and browse our online kennel, here: bit.ly/AdoptAtPRC

A friendly pup, ready for a new start! 🌟

Lombardo is a handsome, mahogany colored 8-year-old dog who enjoys playing fetch, frolicking in the splash pad, and sprawling out in a nice, shady spot, preferably getting pets. He’s done well in training, happily sitting for a treat, staying until called and doing “down”, which may be his favorite of all! He’s an easy dog on a leash and enjoys walks in the lot. He’s an affectionate dog who loves getting pets and giving the occasional appreciative gentle lick on the face in return. He has been assessed in playgroup as having a gentle/dainty play style and being social with the other dogs. He is unknown around cats or smaller children but is healthy and heartworm negative.

He was brought to the shelter at the end of May after being found abandoned inside an empty shed in the back of a vacant/abandoned house. The officer said he immediately wagged his tail and was friendly towards their presence and accepted all the pets. Lombardo would love for you and your family to give him a roll of the dice so that he can have a new family of his own!

NOW WINNIE! 😍

Winnie (formally Kayin) has been available for adoption longer than any other pet at PRC. This 6-year-old bundle of love is one of the staff favorites here at PRC. She came to our shelter back in September 2022 as a stray, that is nearly two years ago! She has had two adoptions but was never out of the shelter or foster for more than 2-3 days. Both returns were due to her higher energy playstyle with others.

Winnie is very dog social, but her playstyle is very antagonizing and rough. Winnie recently played with another rowdy dog, and she did fine but the other dog did need to correct her a lot as she can be very pokey and won’t leave them alone. Her adopters shared that they loved her personality, her snorting, and the way she loves to play in the sun. She is great with people, loves a good chew toy, and is comfortable in a kennel. She also gives plenty of kisses! Winnie is very social everywhere she goes. She loves to make herself at home wherever she’s at and adores people, saying hi to everyone in public but she doesn’t get overly excited, and she has never had any issues with her jumping on people. She has done great around older children but hasn’t been around anyone younger than 8. She can occasionally leash pull because of all her energy and excitement but doesn’t really pull in a new environment unless she sees a squirrel. Winnie allows handling, including grabbing her collar, picking her up, bathing her, touching her bad leg (chronic injury to the elbow), touching her face and ears, and wiping her paws after walks. Winnie is food motivated, knows the wait, sit and a few other commands. Winnie is potty trained and will let you know if she needs to go outside.

While she is enjoying her time in foster, it is not a permanent adoption, and she would love to become a part of a permanent family!

"Happy to just be by your side!"-foster comment💘

Zuna is sweet, playful 10-year-old little lowrider. She is affectionate, trained, and walks well on a leash. Don’t be fooled by her age! She loves to play fetch, take walks, and is hard to keep out of the pool. She easily shares her toys and is gentle with treats. She has her training basics down, sitting, staying, and recalling well. She has been very friendly and outgoing with everyone she has met, both in and out of the shelter and easily charms them with her adorable silver-lined doggy smile. Her charms have extended to doggy playgroup where she has a Gentle/Dainty play style and is social with all of her doggy friends. Zuna has been at the PRC since early January and would love a chance at a new family. During a recent Adventure Tails trip, her foster nicknamed her “Miss Piggy” after her cute snorts she makes when she’s out of breath, which, it doesn’t take much to tire her out. Zuna’s favorite past-time during her adventure was just lying in the shade and enjoying the outdoors. She loves to roll around in the grass and display her puppy-like mannerisms. Zuna listened to all commands very well.

Zuna has the sweetest face and her foster hopes someone can give her the spoiled life she deserves especially at her age. Learn more about her and browse our online kennel, here: bit.ly/AdoptAtPRC

Today's Silver Snout Saturday feature is...Mambo!

Mambo is a 9-year-old neutered Shar Pei mix who came to PRC in the beginning of May and is still looking for his forever home! He is about 58 pounds and heartworm positive. Mambo has done very well interacting with staff and volunteers and had a very fun day out on an adventure tail recently! Per our Wellness team, he is gentle/dainty selective giving good corrections and allows for greetings. He does vocalize to other dogs when approaching and has some noted barrier reactivity but has been in smaller sized groups. Most of his out of kennel enrichment time has been spent with onsite volunteers.

During his recent Adventure Tails trip, Mambo and his foster had quite the adventurous day! The foster knew he had some energy, so from the beginning, they were determined to keep up and started with a long walk by the water. This ended up being a walk IN the water. But you can't say no to this sweet face. Even with being excited, he was still very patient and fairly easy going, meaning he didn't drag the foster underwater and waited for them to take their shoes off. His expressions are priceless. Even after walking a few miles, he seemed to want to take full advantage of his day out and never stayed sitting for very long, even with some attempted coaxing with treats and toys (neither of which he was particularly interested in, he seemed to much prefer being pet and scratched!) After getting incredibly dirty throughout his day of rolling in sand, bay water, puddles, and mud, he had a quick wash off, which he tolerated like a champ, though not without some very adorable but clearly annoyed looks.

Mambo has been here at PRC for nearly four months now and could use some help finding his forever home! Learn more about him and browse our online kennel, here: bit.ly/AdoptAtPRC

Let's talk about Bruno! 🥰

Bruno is a lean young 3-year-old dog who, sadly, is very tired of the shelter life after being surrendered by his lifelong family in early April due to being too rambunctious when playing. It can take him a few days to feel secure and start being more himself in a home, so patience is needed with this young boy. Since being in foster, he has now opened up to be a playful, personable dog who once again enjoys fetch and chasing toys, splashing in the water and has never met a treat he didn’t like! He now focuses well during training, learning more each day and has become gentle taking treats. He is housetrained, loves car rides, and going to the beach, per his previous owners. While at PRC, Bruno went to playgroup and had a gentle/dainty style of play. He was tolerant and playful with other dogs, while preferring to play in smaller groups. He is unknown around cats and would do best with older children in the home. His foster says the cutest thing of all is how he has started to vocalize by singing! He loves to sing with you and show off his beautiful voice for you.

🎯Right on Target!🎯

Bullseye is a 2-year-old neutered Dogo Argentino mix who came to PRC as a stray mid-June. He is about 67 pounds and heartworm negative. Bullseye has done very well interacting with staff and volunteers at the shelter though, despite his appearance, can be a bit timid when in new situations. In playgroups, he has a gentle/dainty selective playstyle, being assertive with males and steerable, though spends more of his time outside of the kennel one-on-one with volunteers.

During a recent foster outing, his foster had wonderful things to say. “Bullseye is such a sweet boy! He is timid and it takes him some time to warm up, but he just needs someone patient and understanding. After some scratches and a pup cup and he was already coming around. We went for a long walk, and he was AMAZING!!! No leash pulling at all, he definitely likes to stop and sniff, but what dog doesn't? We passed multiple dogs and easily went the other way, without any issues from Bullseye. With the car the first time, help was needed getting him in, but after he warmed up to me, he got in no issues at all, and was even seeming to enjoy the car ride. He is going to make a perfect dog for someone willing to give him a chance to open up and get the love he so deserves!”

ALL AROUND GOOD DOG! 😎

Didi is a bouncy, playful 2-year-old dog who is very social and loves every second he spends with people. He’s very smart and is eager to show off what he knows and learn what he doesn’t during training. He quickly picked up fetch and it soon became his favorite game. He’s even made running over-the-shoulder catches that would make any wide receiver proud! Watch out Chris Godwin and Mike Evans, Didi is coming for you! Did will also stop for some pets and cuddle time. The fact he has all these amazing qualities is a testament to the dog he is, as he arrived at the beginning of May after being confiscated due to cruelty. He is a frequent playgroup participant with a gentle/dainty playstyle, and he is social and playful with other dogs. During a recent outing, Didi showed these amazing qualities outside of the shelter as well. He did great on a hike in a local park, was well behaved at the hardware store, and guilted his foster into sharing a sweet treat after. Didi is well rounded and appears to enjoy just being in the company of people.

Eager to please💓

Tater is a very social 3-year-old Tennessee Treeing Brindle mix who seems to find new people as just friends he hasn’t met. He arrived in early June when the PRC chose this handsome fellow as a transfer from an overcrowded partner facility. He has done everything to impress his new shelter. He hasn’t shown any hesitation at adjusting and making himself at home. He was ready to play immediately when shown the play yards and gardens. Tater has shown great manners with toys and treats. He enjoys playing in water and happily climbs steps without prompting. He has also shown good fundamental training and leash walking skills. He is very outgoing and eager to please. In playgroup, Tater is noted to be gentle/dainty selective and appears to be more playful 1-on-1. Tater has been adopted twice and returned due to not being recommended for a home with cats both times. His first adopted home mentioned returning due to fixating on the cat but overall doing well with people and other dogs. He unfortunately was returned from his second adopted home due to an incident with a resident feline that did result in severe injuries, so cats are a definite no-go! He is healthy and heartworm negative.

He would love to have a foster or adopter during these very crowded times at the PRC. Learn more about him and browse our online kennel, here: bit.ly/AdoptAtPRC

Loves to play! 🥎

Downey is a petite, playful 2-year-old who loves to play with toys and splash around in the pool. She is a curious young dog, enjoying inspecting objects in depth in the garden as if to determine their purpose. She’s a young dog with things to do and places to be stopping briefly to gently take a treat and off again. She sits and recalls well; while giving a look to let you know she has more important things to do. Telling her to “go play” brings the look of a child being told it’s time for recess (a joyous time from bygone days!). She was an owner surrender due to owner’s work hours. She did well with the other dogs in the house; except one dog took exception to her higher energy and playfulness. She is gentle, dainty, and tolerant in our playgroups at the shelter. She is house and crate trained. Downey may have some resource behaviors that our team would be more than happy to give pointers on, and she may do best in a mature household that can provide her support and training! Overall, Downey loves to be pet and loves attention. When settled and calm she is playful and likes belly rubs!

During a recent Adventure Tails Day out, her foster had great notes! “Downey is a sweet girl and has a lot of energy! She did well in the car, and we took her to a nearby park. Once out of the car, we took her by the leash and jogged with her in the shade for some exercise and she stayed by and did not run ahead. After taking a break and drinking water, she explored along a fence. She took treats gently and responded to the sit command well. We brought out a toy and noticed a strong guarding focus, so we took it away from her the rest of the outing. Since it was getting hot out, we brought her over to the dog water fountain and wet her down—she really enjoyed it and wasn’t afraid of the water. A person walked by with a dog and Downey observed and showed interest but didn’t bark or lunge and was easily settled back down. She did appear slightly nervous and would calm down with a mozzarella stick treat. We left the park and went to get takeaway lunch and while we waited in our parked car, people would walk right by and Downey did not bark, just observed.

Happy Pet Foster Appreciation Week! 🐶🐱

When we think of our PRC Foster Parents, we think of 3 words: selfless, caring heroes! 💖

Because PRC is an open admissions shelter, we truly could not operate our current capacity without the help of our amazing foster families. You often hear the term “Fostering Saves Lives” and the dedication of our PRC foster parents is proof!

Between fostering our most delicate neonatal kittens to offering our rambunctious pups a day out on Adventure Tails to our long-term adoption ambassadors to weekend getaways, our foster parents have been an endless support system for the pets within our care. We cannot express how proud we are of the PRC Foster Squad’s successes, and we know the pets they have helped along the way are truly thankful for their tireless effort in helping those in need!

Just a pup looking for fun! 🧸

Garnet is a young, energetic, 14-month-old, just itching to get out of the shelter. He is easy to leash but is still working on his walking manners, he doesn’t know his own strength. But during a recent Adventure Tails Outing, Garnet was described as an absolute love bug! He was good in the car - when 1st picked up a little unsettled and whined, but eventually relaxed and looked out the windows. They went to a county park for a hike. He's full of that big-boy puppy energy and was initially a bit rambunctious - jumping, leash biting, running, etc. Although he was very excited, he took correction wonderfully. Once they got moving, he was on-the-go and so excited to sniff everything. Garnet was in constant motion and taking everything in. He liked walking under the large palm fronds. It's a busy park with lots of people & dogs and he did great. He was very interested in what was going on but non-reactive. A very reactive dog walked by and was lunging growling etc. and Garnet stayed next to his foster as asked and was unbothered. He received several comments about what a beautiful dog he is! Garnet listened well and, once he burned off some energy, was very relaxed and had perfect manners. He is very affectionate and came in for pets and cuddles on several occasions. He was a lot of fun and kept everyone laughing with his silly personality!

Garnet arrived to PRC in early June and would love for a fun, family to come meet him and instantly fall in love! Learn more about him and browse our online kennel, here: bit.ly/AdoptAtPRC

A lovely lab lady! 💘

Halsey is a stunning 3-year-old Labrador mix with a gentle nature. She was a stray found on a rural road by a family in late May. They commented that they “kept the dog outside for a few days; during the time they had her, she interacted with their male dog with no reactions. She also met young kids and was affectionate towards them, licking their face.”

She was overwhelmed by the stressful shelter life when she arrived, becoming shy. She’s been gradually opening up, showing that pets and affection are something she deeply desires and enjoys. She has been making new friends and has multiple comments of walking well on a leash. Halsey enjoys exploring the garden, while never straying far from those she trusts. She has been going to playgroup, having a gentle/dainty style of play. She is tolerant of other dogs, yet still a little nervous among the group. She is healthy and heartworm negative.

During a recent Adventure Tails outing, Halsey was a little nervous at first, and it did not appear she had a lot of experience in a vehicle. After a few minutes and with the windows open a little, she calmed down. She started her day out at the park and went for a trail walk and did really well on the leash, encountering other dogs and people, and didn't react toward them. Her foster let her roam around their house and she did really well! They played ball a little bit and she wasn't interested initially but got the hang of it. She visibly calmed a lot about mid-way through the day, getting used to her foster and surroundings. They then went to Home Depot where she did great on the leash, pulled mildly as would be expected to smell and see new things. People approached and a female employee walked up to her and gave her scratches. She didn't exhibit any fearful behavior and wagged her tail. Halsey did really well and came out of her shell with some time and slow attention! She absolutely loved the pup cup and picked out a peanut butter cookie from the pet store before returning to PRC.

Halsey is a sweet, gentle girl who seems to do well in all surroundings; she is just a little shy at first and needs some time and patience to help her relax! Learn more about her and browse our online kennel, here: bit.ly/AdoptAtPRC

He's a fun guy! 😍

Bruno is a happy-go-lucky, dog-social, 4-year-old who enjoys life and has fun with anyone, anywhere, at anytime! He was brought to the PRC in late February, as one of a dozen friendly dogs of various breeds surrendered to the shelter. All of the rest have found homes, leaving Bruno still unchosen. He has a joyful, loving personality and an innate gentleness. He’s always been seen as a gentleman in the play yard; never rough housing, jumping on people or being mouthy. Simply playing in a water hose or a sprinkler on a hot day will make him the happiest dog in the world! He loves to chase toys, although calling it fetch might be a bit of a stretch! The toy will generally be happily dropped somewhere near you, ready for another run. He eagerly works on training, gently taking a beloved treat for his efforts. Getting pets brings a big doggy smile to his handsome face. He is social and playful in playgroup, having a push/pull play style. He is healthy and heartworm negative.

The shelter is very crowded, and Bruno would love to have a new family of his own or even a foster to give him a summer break while you help him search for a family!

💝ALWAYS EAGER TO PLEASE!💝

Tank is a lovable 5-year-old dog who makes the most of every precious second he has out of his kennel to be with someone. He plays fetch with any toy you choose and eagerly works on his training, never taking his eyes off of you. Go near a ramp or a rock and he will jump up to sit proudly, showing off his skills. Tank also enjoys playing on his own, especially if there are pools, splash pads, or even puddles to roll in. He enjoys just sitting beside you, leaning on you as you place an arm around him to pet and give him the occasional treat as you talk and praise him. He was assessed once in playgroup and may do best as an only dog at this time. He is unknown around children or cats having arrived at the PRC in early March (110 days and counting), having been confiscated due to no fault of his own. During a recent outing, Tank was pretty calm in the car. At the start of the walk, he pulled but this is understandable because it was the very beginning of the walk and as time passed and he progressed on the walk he slowed down. He saw and passed by many bike riders and had no problem seeing them. Tank was very affectionate after the walk and gave his foster some kisses in appreciation.

He would love a foster or adopter to cuddle up with during these very crowded times at the PRC. Learn more about him and browse our online kennel, here: bit.ly/AdoptAtPRC

Meet today's Silver Snout Saturday feature is: Bert! 🎉

Bert is a handsome, friendly, and resilient 10-year-old cat who is looking for some help in finding a soft place to land. Bert arrived at PRC on April 6, 2024, with a badly injured hind foot and inability to walk. Bert was thin with a poor coat and in desperate need of some TLC. Bert has made significant progress since his intake and has had excellent spirits through each bath, grooming, and outfit change (he is typically sporting a fancy bow tie or bandana of his choosing). Bert continues to have mobility issues and would highly benefit from individualized care and physical therapy to build strength. Unfortunately, PRC has been experiencing an exceptionally high caseload and, despite everyone's best efforts and compassionate care, consistent physical therapy has not been in the realm of possibility. Bert continues to have feeling in his hind legs but primarily moves using the front half of his body. It is unknown at this time how much progress is possible for Bert when given the resources he needs. Bert has displayed episodes that are suspected to be a component of feline hyperesthesia syndrome including rapidly chewing on his foot and vocalizing. This activity could alternatively occur due to neuropathy. Bert was started on a medication to lessen these events and has responded well. Recently, Bert experienced two instances of seizures or seizure-like activity. These episodes lasted less than one minute each and he recovered quickly after cessation. They were characterized by facial twitching/tremors, slight vocalization, urination, and falling over. Bert was quickly comforted by staff and returned to his normal self, even enjoying a snack. Bert is certainly a "foodie" and has enjoyed his treats with graciousness. Bert is a Vet Services staff favorite and although it will be bittersweet, the PRC team want what is best for him and to set him up for love and success.
