🎃 Can I take my dog to a corn maze or a pumpkin patch?

Great question!

✏️ Let's talk it through. Below you will find info to help you get prepared.

📲 First, you should contact ANY PLACE you would like to take your dog to and verify for yourself if they do in fact allow dogs.

💉 Your dog should be fully and properly vaccinated to protect him and other dogs. Keeping a copy of your pets vaccinations on your phone or in your bag is helpful.

💩 Take potty bags and paper towels just in case your dog has a potty accident.

🏃‍♀️🐩 Make sure your dog is not full of energy when you visit! Give them about 15-20 minutes of exercise BEFORE you go. Doing so will enable your dog to listen better to you and help reduce anxiety and stress.

🕰 Plan your visit at a less busy time. Avoid going on the weekends where there will be more people and maybe even more dogs.

🌞🔥 Consider the weather before you take your dog. Some parts of the county are still warm or even hot in October.

🚫 NEVER allow your dog to chew, eat or even play with corn cobs! Many dog pass away after ingesting corn cobs and even more dogs require emergent surgery during the summer and autumn months do to ingesting corn cobs they find on the ground, in the trash or on an unattended dinner plate! Corn Cobs (no matter the size!) can become stuck in their intestinal tracks causing blockages or even ruptures.

🎃 *Pumpkin is actually safe for your dog to eat and good for them too when given in moderation. A teaspoon to a tablespoon of raw or cooked pumpkin is a great special treat to your pets food or as a part of a treat. The high fiber content in pumpkin can help dogs that are suffering from constipation or diarrhea. NO PUMPKIN SEEDS EVER! *Please consult your vet before any dietary changes.

⏱ Keep your visit short especially the first time or two. Allow your dog to sniff and become familiar with the location a little more each time. Start with maybe 5 minutes and let your dog tell you if he can do longer visits by his reaction and behavior and response to cues to ask.

🧐 But - Before giving your dog any new dog treats, be sure to read the label. Make sure they are safe.

☠️ Dogs can not eat: Chocolate, grapes, onions, avocado pits, garlic, cinnamon and more.

Why Force Free Dog Training? Also known as Positive Reinforcement Training.....

I get asked all the time, “What is Positive Reinforcement Dog Training?” I LOVE this question!

Positive Reinforcement Dog Training, or other wise known as Force Free Dog Training, is a scientifically proven method that utilizes treats, praise, sometimes even toys as a reward for recognizing correct behavior, not focusing on what was done incorrectly all while building your bond through trust and communication.

Positive Reinforcement Training enables your dog to understand your expectations while working their brains and bodies which results in more reliable behavior. I believe in allowing your dog to think for themselves, give them time to understand what you want and reward them for doing so.

I work with many rescue dogs that have behavioral issues due to abuse and even isolation. According to the ASPCA’s National Rehoming Survey, pet problems are the most common reason that owners rehome their pet, accounting for 47% of rehomed dogs and 42% of rehomed cats. Pet problems were defined as problematic behaviors, aggressive behaviors, grew larger than expected, or health problems owner couldn’t handle.
