Our last video of Indie in the shelter really moved people and brought out their passion they have for animals which is great 👍 What is not great is blaming or shaming the shelter for Indie’s behavior in the video 👎 We want to reiterate that this is NOT the fault of the shelter. This is the fault of people, owners, lack of education, lack of responsibility. The Hillsborough County Pet Resource Center is just that- a RESOURCE. They excel above and beyond at what they do. They treat their animals with care and compassion. They educate the public, provide resources to the community to those in need, and they advocate for the welfare of animals of all kind. We are honored to be associated with them. There would be no need for shelters if human beings would treat animals like living creatures rather than property. Until this happens, shelters are necessary to give animals like Indie a fighting chance at life.
Don’t like what you see? Come out from behind your computer and go volunteer 💪 There are TONS of opportunities to help animals. Volunteer to be a post operative caregiver to comfort animals in need after surgery. Walk a dog to give them a break from the kennel 🦮 Take a dog out for the day to get a pup cup 🍦Start a donation drive for supplies 🦴 Go play with cats 🐱 Please get involved rather than blame or shame. It’s not helpful nor does it solve the issue at hand. Go to your local county shelter and inquire about volunteering to make a difference! Our favorite day is rescue day!!! We would love to extend a warm welcome to these two beautiful senior poodle mix sisters saved from the euthanasia list. They came in to the shelter as strays- skin and bones, hair loss and matting, their nails were so long they were curling under into their skin. They have about 6 teeth collectively between the two of them 🥲 But we see the beauty in their eyes and souls 💕 Their little personalities are already starting to shine through! She is CRYING 😭 Hiding in fear 🥺
This is “unknown.” She doesn’t even have a name 😞 She is a 10 month old lab mix. Imagine having a family your whole life. Then one day jumping in the car, thinking you are going for a fun car ride. You end up at a loud, scary, unfamiliar place. Held hostage in a 4x10 kennel for 23.5 hours out of the day. You wake up the next day in pain because they just performed surgery on you. All you want is your family that loved you, but you have no idea where they are or when you will see them 😢
Welcome to the reality of almost every animal in the shelter. These pets are SCARED. The stress and anxiety they face at the shelter can be too much for some and they go crazy. We must do something to change this. Stop surrendering your pets- they are a LIFETIME COMMITMENT. Spay and neuter your animals!!! There are vouchers and low cost spay/neuter clinics all around. Need help finding one? Message us and we would be glad to assist you! Microchip your animals or, at the very least, a collar with a name tag. Our goal is to keep animals out of the shelter. We need your help to do this. Share this video!!! Maybe it will change someone’s mind about surrendering their animal.

Margo no longer has to worry about where her next meal will come from. Or where to find shelter for the night to hide from the people who previously abused her. Instead, she is in the great hands of her loving fosters who have decided that they cannot live another day without her and have made the next step to make her a part of her family 🥰

HE’S HOME!!!!!!! 😭😭😭❤️❤️❤️
Our little guy Toby SURVIVED PARVO and is THRIVING! After 3 days of tube feedings, IV’s, blood draws, and fluids, this guy has his pep in his step back and is acting like nothing happened. He is resting comfortably back home and is so happy to be reunited with his sister. Thank you all SO much for all of your love, support, donations, and positive vibes sent our way. We couldn’t do this without you! And thank you so much to Toby and Dixie’s AMAZING foster Tina Barriball for being diligent and catching his symptoms early and helping to save his life. We couldn’t do it without you!
We would like to share with you a very special dog in our rescue and his story ❤️
We were contacted by a family who was interested in fostering. They told us about how they have always wanted a dog but have never been financially ready to own one. Finally, they were ready for a dog and reached out to us about fostering, as they thought this would be a great way to ease into having a dog!
It was important to the family that the dog be kid friendly. So we introduced them to a dog that is one of our favorites at the Hillsborough County shelter and the rest was history 💕
This guy is Franco. He is a 7-year-old pittie mix with a broken in half, crooked tail with arthritis issues. But as you can see in their kids’ eyes, he is so much more than that to them. In the video, you would have thought that their mom was bringing home a brand new purebred puppy based on how excited they look to see him for the first time. This goes to show that every dog can be perfect for someone! Franco is their soul dog. He cuddles with them when they are sick, whines with excitement when they get home, and is by their side for whatever comes their way.
He is currently in our foster to adopt program but I think we all know that this will be a foster fail 😅 This is a great example of how fostering to adopt works! If you have always been interested in adopting a dog but don’t know if adoption is right for you at this time, we would love for you to reach out to us about our foster to adopt program! We will match you with a dog that is best for your family and lifestyle, while we pay for all expenses, including food, supplies, and vet care. This way you can get a feel for owning a dog without the full-blown commitment if you are not ready to adopt!
