Today is not only National Purebred Dog Day but is also the International Day of the Podenco! Here we are celebrating both holidays by welcoming the birth of our Clarice’s litter in the wee hours of the morning! Mom and babies are all doing well and settling right into their new routine 🥰

“The Zit” had a fantastic weekend in Perry, GA at the Peach Blossom Cluster! Starting on Wednesday she won Best of Breed under judge Dr Azalea Alvarez, Group 1st under judge Roz Kramer and Reserve Best in Show under judge Vicki Abbott! On Friday she won Best of Breed & Group 1st under judge Vicki Abbott and Best in Show under judge Peggy Beisel-McIlwaine! On Friday she won Best of Breed and Geoup 1st under judge Ann Roth! Finally on Saturday, she won Best of Breed and Geoup 2nd under judge Charlie Olvis!

Our heads are still spinning from these amazing wins and all of the support we have received this weekend. Check out akc.tv to watch The Zit competing in the group at yesterday’s Atlanta Kennel Club!

The Zit is the very first Dual Champion Ibizan Hound to win an all-breed Best in Show! She is the perfect combination of power and elegance. She recently became the first Dual Champion Ibizan Hound to earn her Gold Grand Chanpionship as well!

It has been an incredible week for Abbaio!
⭐️On Thursday, “The Zit” earned her gold grand championship, the first Dual Champion Ibizan to earn this title and the 4th Abbaio GCHG!
⭐️On Friday, “Eveline” earned her grand championship, the 36th Abbaio GCH!
⭐️On Saturday, “Eleanor” earned her field championship, the 36th Abbaio FC!

Congratulations to all of their owners who keep them happy and healthy to be able to compete! Success in the ring or on the field starts at home!

2023 was a bit of a quiet year for Abbaio, but we still had a lot of fun and a lot to be proud of!

⭐️ The Zit showed just a few weekends up until May, including 2 Group 1st awards, then took 6 months off to have her first litter of puppies! She got back in the ring in November, breeder-owner-handled, and showed 4 weekends, including her second Best of Breed win at AKC National Championship! She ends 2023 as the #1 Ibizan Hound female, and #4 Ibizan Hound Breed/All-Breed

⭐️ Eveline also showed only a handful of weekends and won a Group 1st on her way to ending the year #13 All-Breed

⭐️ Lydia showed a few times during the first half of the year to earn her grand championship title and an Award of Merit at Westminster, and ended the year as the #14 Ibizan Hound in Breed Points and #23 in Lure Coursing

⭐️ Ramsey spent most of the year working on Rally, earning his novice title, but also came out in February to earn a group placement and end the year as #15 Ibizan Hound in All-Breed Points

⭐️ Magic showed in the southwest toward her bronze grand championship title and ended the year as #15 Ibizan Hound in Breed Points

⭐️ Calliope showed in two big clusters over the summer, earning his grand championship and a group placement to end the year as #16 Ibizan Hound All-Breed
GCH Abbaio Almost Paradise

⭐️ Valentino showed the month of February, earning several breed wins and a group placement that helped him to be #20 Breed/ #19 All-Breed, and spent the rest of the Spring earning his dual championship and siring his first litter
GCH DC Abbaio Cheeseburger in Paradise SC

⭐️ Venus Flytrap made two appearances in 2023, over Westminster weekend earning a Group 2nd in Trenton and Select Bitch at Westminster as well as a Best Junior at Bucks County, she then came back to play at AKC National Championship with her junior making several cuts in their preliminary competition. She ended the year as #20 All-Breed Ibizan
GCHB DC Abbaio Bird of Paradise SC TKN

⭐️ Beetlejuice was on fire on the field this year, and while we were not able to travel much, and don’t have any trials in Florida except in the Winter, he racked up several Best of Breed wins, a Best in Field, High Scoring Dual Champion Ibizan and 1/2 of the Ibizan Breeder Stake winner at the National Lure Coursing Championship, won his specials stake on day 2 of the NLCC and was 2nd place in the breed finalist run, earned his LCX and LCX2, and finished the year as the #3 Ibizan in lure coursing and the #10 of all sighthound breeds!

⭐️ Json earned several great wins in the field this year, including a Best in Field, earned his show championship to make him a dual champion, and earned his LCX, was 1/2 of the Ibizan Breeder Stake winner at the National Lure Coursing Championship and won his specials stake on day 2. He ended the year as #4 Ibizan in lure coursing and #17 of all sighthound breeds!

⭐️ Katy made a few appearances on the field this year, but missed out on several trials as they coincided with her two seasons, though she did welcome her first litter in May! She also finished her grand championship in the beginning of the year, and she ended the year as the #9 Ibizan Hound in lure coursing

⭐️ Adele earned her grand championship in the beginning of the year, and then the light switch flipped on the field, leading her to several great runs which have her needing only her majors now to finish her field championship! ashe ended the year as the #18 Ibizan Hound in lure coursing

It’s Showtime!!
This is 🖤💚BEETLEJUICE💚🖤 and he has started the year off strong! He turned 2 years old and won his first group placement the following weekend! Two weeks later, he earned his Lure Courser Excellent title just a year after beginning his career on the field! Beetlejuice is owner-handled by Joseph Smela and is the #2 Ibizan Hound (All-Breed Sustem) through 1/31/23!

What happens when two parents raise their little boy to be respectful of animals and involved in their care? Oliver (2 years old) took over the responsibility of 6 year old Digby’s obedience classes after designating himself in charge of feeding Digby since he learned to walk! These two share a very special bond, as Digby was thankful to his mom Katrina for getting a baby for him several years ago ❤️ Side note: When your handler is a toddler himself, the down command might mean for him, too!

Ibizans and children make excellent pairs, but as with any animal, care and caution must be taken not only to insure the safety of the child, but of the animal, too! If you raise your kids to be respectful and loving of animals, they will have best friends for life of all shapes and sizes.

We leave today for the 2022 AKC National Lure Coursing Championship! We are well-represented by these 6 wonderful Dual Champions and a 7th Field Champion! No matter what happens this weekend, we are sure to have a lot of fun and maybe have some tired dogs by Sunday!

It was a long 3 weeks in Ocala, FL but we had a great time! ”Turtle” was the big winner, having entered 4 out of the 10 shows, winning Best of Breed at all 4, 2 Group 3s and 2 NOHS Group Placements! All of this was owner-handled by his mom Dr Susan! We could not be more proud of them!

Of the remaining 6 shows, Venus Flytrap won 3 Best of Breeds, Adele and Amanda won 1, David Rose and his mom Anna won 1, and Turtle’s daughter Lydia won Best of Breed over 5 specials for her second major! We had a blast with all of our dogs and puppy owners who came out to join us and work on grand championship titles!

Dog shows are so much fun when we get to spend time with friends enjoying our Beezers ❤️

The stats are out through July 31, and Venus Flytrap has found herself at #1! While we have continued with a light schedule, I am proud to see our young girl at the top of the breed system and #4 All-Breed with 2 Group 1st and multiple group placements. Her cousin "The Zit" rounds out the Top 5 (All-Breed) in just a handful of weekends of shows!

Happy 10th Birthday to Conan (the handsome redhead in the middle)! Conan is pictured here at about a year and a half of age with his family…me in pink, breeder Lisa Puskas to the right, Nick Pusta to the far left and the far right is Roberto Scardua who took ”Coco” home that day to live a beautiful like in Brazil with his sire, Hunter. This wonderful dog brought us all together and the only thing I can be more thankful for is that he sired the love of my life, Tiny Miracle!

He enjoyed success in the show ring, Reserve Winners Dog at the 2013 IHCUS National Specialty, Best of Opposite at the National Dog Show and Select at Eukanuba before leaving for South America. He is an extremely kind, sweet, loving dog who passed all of those qualities onto his litter of puppies born here in 2016.

🏆VENUS FLYTRAP🏆 won her first Hound Group 1st last weekend at the World Eequestrian Center in Ocala, FL under sighthound specialist Nan Bodine of Shahtani Salukis! Venus is now a fourth generation Hound Group Winner (the last 3 generations bred here at Abbaio) and the 5th Abbaio Ibizan I have had the pleasure to breeder-owner-handle to this level!
