❤️🐾 Why Heart Disease Testing Matters—Especially for Breeds at Higher Risk 🐾❤️

Did you know certain breeds are more likely to develop heart disease? Persian cats—along with breeds like Maine C***s, Ragdolls, and some small-breed dogs—are genetically predisposed to heart conditions such as hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM). Early detection can make all the difference in keeping them healthy and comfortable. We can start this process while they are kittens!

🔍 Why Testing Is Important
• Heart disease often develops silently. Many pets show no symptoms until the condition is advanced.
• Early diagnosis = better management. With timely testing, veterinarians can monitor the heart, recommend lifestyle changes, and begin treatment sooner.
• Improves long-term quality of life. Cats and dogs diagnosed early often live longer, happier lives with the right care.

🩺 What Testing Involves
• A thorough physical exam and listening for heart murmurs
• Blood pressure checks
• Cardiac blood tests (such as proBNP)
• Echocardiography (ultrasound of the heart), the gold standard for diagnosing heart conditions

🚩 Watch for Symptoms (Especially in High-Risk Breeds):
• Rapid breathing or difficulty breathing
• Lethargy or decreased activity
• Fainting or collapse
• Decreased appetite
• Sudden hind-leg weakness (in cats)

🏥 If your pet is a Persian, Maine C**n, or another predisposed breed, ask us about routine heart screening. Detecting problems early can help keep your furry family member healthy for years to come.

🦃 Keeping Pets Safe This Thanksgiving 🐾

The holiday season is full of family, fun, and delicious food—but it can also bring hidden hazards for our furry friends. As you prepare your Thanksgiving feast, here are a few tips to help keep your pets safe and healthy:

🍗 Skip the Table Scraps
Turkey skin, gravy, and fatty foods can cause digestive upset or even pancreatitis in pets. Bones—especially cooked ones—can splinter and cause serious injuries. Keep the feast on the table and offer pet-safe treats instead.

🌰 Watch Out for Toxic Foods
Common holiday ingredients like onions, garlic, grapes, raisins, chocolate, and xylitol (a sugar substitute often found in desserts) are dangerous for pets. Make sure curious noses can’t reach countertops or trash bins.

🔥 Secure Decorations & Candles
Festive candles, centerpieces, and decorative plants can be tempting to explore. Keep them out of reach to avoid burns, upset stomachs, or accidental messes.

🚪 Stress & Guests
With new faces, noises, and commotion, some pets may feel overwhelmed. Create a quiet, cozy escape room where they can relax. Remind guests not to feed them from the table.

🗑️ Guard the Garbage
A tipped or open trash can full of turkey bones and leftovers is a magnet for pets. Make sure bins are secure throughout the day.

🎲🐾 LEGO Game Night With the Best Team! 🐾🎲

At our hospital, we care for animals every day — but we also care for each other. Last weekend, our staff got together for a fun LEGO-themed game night, and it was such a great reminder of how important it is to connect outside of work!

Spending time together outside the hospital helps us recharge, bond, and strengthen the teamwork that carries over into the care we provide your pets. ❤️🐶🐱
