Yesterday we had a horrible accident occur with our baby, Ruby. We are emotionally exhausted from the event and crying. I was cleaning at 650 am and our recliner foot rest was elevated about 20°. I looked around for the main “under couch cats” (not under) and pushed the button to lower it. Within 2 seconds I hear a scream, and it was Ruby. Her tail fur got stuck in the spinning motor and it sucked her tail in and then around multiple times. Through hysteria, screaming, and pain, 70 minutes later, we freed her tail. It took 4 men, multiple tools, and a hack saw to cut the motor housing in half to release her tail. We even called 911, and they wouldn’t come. Her tail was twisted and compressed for a solid hour. Ruby’s tail is severely broken. Emergency vet recommended amputation, but my vet suggests waiting. She is eating, playing, and walking around. Her tail is wrapped and the others just want to play with it. She is confused and can’t figure out what is behind her. We are researching this so we can make an informed decision.
