Our Story
Bakas Equestrian Center offers equine therapy to benefit children and adults with physical and developmental delay disabilities. The PATH certified staff and facility are operated by the Hillsborough County Parks, Recreation and Conservation Department. Horseback riding provides our riders with increased self confidence, balance, coordination, strength and ability to focus. Speech and social interaction, trunk control and spacial awareness are also enhanced. All types of disabilities are served, including some that are severe and profound. Many of our riders compete in Challenged horse shows and Special Olympics.
Bakas Horses for Handicapped is a non profit 501 c 3 organziation that supports Bakas Equestrian center, we strive to raise funds and organize events to help off set a large amount of costs benefiting our program and riders. We also provide costs for our amazing therapy horses such as farrier care, equine insurance, supplies and some vet costs.
