Hazard finally got her intrahepatic shunt fixed at UF. (This is a condition where there is an extra blood vessel that bypasses the liver. Since the liver is a filter this results in a buildup of toxins in the body. In Hazard's case, it was making her severely neurologic.) They put 5 coils into the shunt through her jugular vein! Over the next few weeks a blood clot will form on the coil which will stop the shunt. Her total bill over the last 5 months has reached $12,000. She is now over the majority of her treatment. The great news is that she should have a completely normal lifespan after this surgery!
We want to thank everyone who has donated to her care so far! We definitely couldn't have saved her without everyone's help!

Today is our first day of surgery at Harmony Vet Care of Oldsmar!!!
Hazard is going well with the medical management of her liver shunt. UF won't even do a consult until she is 8 months (end of June) so in the meantime we are working on her obedience. She's doing really well!
Surgical repair of her liver shunt is estimated to cost is $10,000. We were NOT expecting this when we agreed to save her from her mystery illness. But none the less, we will do what is best for Hazard. Consider making a donation to help with her life saving surgery!
"This has been the worst vet experience of my life. I am about to break through the window i am so angry."
This is from a client who showed up at 8:30 a.m. on Sunday to pick up their pet. We told them we would be there at 9:00 a.m.
Maybe you're aware and maybe you're not. But the veterinary industry attracts a lot of abusive client behavior. We understand clients become stressed out when their animal is sick or injured. Clients become stressed out when money runs low. But there is absolutely no excuse for abusive behavior. We are all here for the same reason. To make sure your pet receives the best care possible. And Harmony Vet Care is here to help ensure that this care remains affordable. However! It is becoming increasingly more difficult to attract and maintain talented staff due to abusive client behavior. I have zero tolerance for abuse from clients. Can you imagine how heartbreaking it is when we love your animal like our own. We come in on our time off to take care of your pet. We give them extra love. We discount services to help with the bills. We solicit donations. We work so hard for you and your pet. And despite that we still receive emails like this.

We took this kitty in as an emergency urinary obstruction on top of our fully booked today.
The client told us they'd already spent over $4000 with other vets, but the cat was still obstructed.
We treated the cat immediately and resolved the urinary obstruction for $1,200.
We discharged the cat on Sunday despite being closed to make sure that the cat got to go home a day early.
We told them we would be there at 9:00 a.m. despite policy being that we do not to pick ups on Sunday. So my staff took time out of their day off to meet this client. And because they had to wait 30 minutes because they misheard the time we told them, which is on a recorded phone line, this is the kind of threat we

Have you ever seen a feline polyp removal? Cats can grow polyps in their ears, causing infection, or behind their soft palate, causing breathing obstruction. They are so satisfying to remove!
Who loves a good Cuterebra video? I know I do!
This two month old feral kitty was seen by our surgery team today! Brought in as a feral for TNR, this wound was found on exam, and the Cuterebra removed. I expect he will be feeling a lot better now!
Thanks to St Francis Society Animal Rescue for trapping this guy and getting him taken care of!
