Are yinz ready for this year's Super Bowl?! We're sad that our Squealers -- erm Steelers -- aren't playing. But, you can still join our Super Bowl Squares fundraiser and win some cash! And, you help us cover our $1200+ vet bill this week for Boartholomew and The Golden Girls' upcoming neuter and spays 🐷🐷🐷🐷🐷

What are Super Bowl Squares? The game is a 100 square grid where each row and column is assigned a random number 0-9. Each square can be claimed by a donor for $20 per square. At the end of each quarter, the last digit of each team's score is compared to the grid to determine a winner. Each winner gets $150! Each donor can pick their square or get randomly assigned.

How to claim a square? Pick a square (or have us choose one) and send us $20 via PayPal, CashApp, Zelle, or Venmo here ➑️ bit.ly/supportPSR. You can check our live updated grid here ➑️ bit.ly/PSR-SBS-LIX. You can buy squares until the game on Feb 9th, but we'll likely sell out before then!

Welcome to our 5 newest intakes who were destined to be shot yesterday ☹️

Folks often threaten to shoot their pigs in order to pressure rescues into taking on their animals. This is emotional blackmail and is a truly vile thing to do. But, in this case, the owners had arranged in private to have a friend come shoot these pigs because they were "just too much to handle." Thankfully, the would-be shooter thought this was unjust and reached out to a friend of our rescue to help. We agreed and picked the 5 up last night.

The owners spewed a constant stream of excuses to why they didn't want the pigs and why the pigs had been living in knee-high mud and snow without proper shelter. The pigs were not fixed and had been allowed to breed, including two young girls having babies at only 7 months old. We all kept our cool and got the pigs out quickly. Unfortunately, the owners did not allow us to take an older male and a younger male; we will be contacting a humane officer for assistance.

On a brighter note, the 5 pigs are in good shape and are friendly! There is one 1.5yo male (Zack named him Boartholomew 😍) and four 11mo females. Of course, all five are intact, which means future vet bills totaling at least $2000 fornthe group.

We will be having a little fundraiser poll to name the girls tomorrow. We're thinking Golden Girls, types chocolate or coffee, Spice Girls... so many ideas! Share your suggestions in the comments ⬇️

Mr. Tusk made a visit to a local senior care facility today. He loves getting to meet new folks because he knows he will get tons of treats!

Mr. Tusk has been a double rear-leg amputee now for 5 years, likely over half his life, after being hit by a car and left to die. But, he really is one happy dude.

He still has both his femurs, which means he can scoot himself around on even ground. Mr. Tusk absolutely hates his wheelchair, but doesn't need it anyway! He has had no medical complications since his surgeries. Mr. Tusk lives with his two adopted sisters, Penelope and Petunia, at our rescue with their very own insulated clubhouse and pen.

🎺 Lorenzo appreciation post 🎺 This boy arrived here with Loretta this Fall after an animal hoarding case (posing as a sanctuary) was finally shut down. He was born with a deformed front leg so has some mobility issues.

He and Loretta had been living in a small pen with hard, rocky ground that must have been difficult to walk on for the two of them. Surprising to us, he and Loretta weren't bonded. But Lorenzo quickly picked out a love interest: Binks πŸ·πŸ’–πŸ· Their lazy vibes and shared mobility disability were a perfect match. We look forward to Spring when we can move them to the warm outdoors. Sunshine and love will fill the air!

Thanks to all of your generosity, we picked up a big load of straw. And, we're able to help out a very sick pig pass peacefully. This may be confusing, but we can explain.

An owner reached out to us for help on Friday about her older pig named Tinkerbell. Her piggy was bleeding a lot from her back end. It had only started a few days before and the owner was very scared. A vet came out and said Tinkerbell likely had a uterine tumor that started bleeding, but there wasn't anything the vet could do at home. The vet gave her some pain medicine and told her to expect Tinkerbell to pass eventually. This was very distressing for the owner, so she reached out for help.

We recommended they get Tinkerbell to the local vet hospital asap. The owner couldn't afford a huge vet bill, so we agreed to help. With some advice and help from the neighbors, they got their pig loaded and off to the hospital asap. Unfortunately, diagnostics looked very grim. Tinkerbell did have a uterine mass that ruptured. She had already lost too much blood and was still losing more. She would not survive surgery or the deep anesthesia and a blood donor was not possible. Tinkerbell was allowed to pass gently with her owner with her. It was very sad to have this happen, but we appreciate that we all got answers, and Tink could go with grace.

We received extra donations for our straw fundraiser. We used every dollar to cover Tinkerbell's emergency vet bill. Thank you all again for choosing us to send your hard earned money so we can help some pigs in need. And thank you for reading about Tinkerbell's goodbye.

A small final but crucial thought: spay and neuter your piggies. They are highly prone to reproductive cancers and infections.

Loretta with her new momma Jeninne πŸ‘©πŸ’–πŸ· It's been quite the exciting week! It took a few days to get Loretta to sleep in her warm shed and Speck, their other big piggy, bullied Loretta frequently. Loretta is now settled in a separate pen in her shed with some new (little) piggy friends. She has the very best family!

Happy Snout Sunday from Habanero! May his spicey, but sweet smile, warm your cold days.

Habby is a very good piggy. He has been with our rescue for 15 months, along his brother JalapeΓ±o and daughters Chipotle and Tabasco (the Pepper Family). They all came to us after their owner was foreclosed on and had to leave his animals behind. He was thin, intact, and had lived in a dark building for most of his life.

Jally recently got adopted (pending weather) and we do hope Habby will find his family soon, too! He is so friendly. Send us a message if you're interested in adopting. All of our pigs are fixed and we support our adopters for the lifetime of the pig.

The weather is forecasted to be bitter cold in the next two weeks, and Inosuke won't be as happy when the chill hits. We are picking up 50 bales of straw this week to prepare.

With over 40 pigs at our rescue, we go through straw quickly during the winter. We pack our insulated sheds, barn stalls, and even our crates and van for transports. Straw is made up of hollow fibers that help trap warm air around the piggies like a ski jacket. The piggies break down the straw pretty fast while fluffing it for the perfect bed and maybe snack on it, a little, so we top up their beds a couple times a week on cold days.

Our straw bill goes up as the temperature goes down. Each bale is $7 each. So those costs add up! Would you consider sending $7 to help us buy a bale pf straw for our piggies? 50 bales should last us through the month.
