As some of you may have noticed my Saturdays are consistently booked out 4-6 weeks.

At this point if you need a Saturday you should be booking your next appointment when you pick up your pup.

After some consideration I have decided to open up Sundays for grooming appointments. However. Please be aware Sundays are my highly valued personal time. Sundays will be limited to 1 or 2 dogs and will be charged at 50% of my normal rate.

So for example if your normal price is 60$ your Sunday price will be 90$.

Please let me know if you are interested.

I've already had this conversation with a few clients individually but I'm going to give the run down here as well for everyone.

I am now in my 3rd year of business and I have learned A LOT. One of the biggest things I have realized is that every dog is different and requires different amounts of work regardless of size or breed.

I have slowly been transitioning to a more hourly rated pricing structure.

The general goal is 50$ and hour so generally
Small dog - 1 hr 15 min =60$
Med dog - 1 hr 30 min = 75$
Large dog- 1hr 45 min = 85$
Lrg / XL - 2 hr = 100$

However not every dog is able to be completed within these assumed times due to variables in coat type, coat condition, pet behavior, and preferred style.

I would very much prefer to keep my services affordable. I will be speaking with clients individually to offer suggestions on how to keep their pets grooming time within the expected time limits such as shorter / simpler styles, at home maintenance tips , or more frequent grooming visits.

Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns.

Cuppa was kind enough to model the different stages of the grooming process.

BEFORE
The first thing I do is get the dog on the table and assess the coat and skin condition. If the pet is matted I will let the parents know and proceed with a preshave to remove the matting.

Cuppa was a little tangled but a good wash and conditioning treatment I was confident he could be brushed out.

WASH /BLOW DRY / BRUSH OUT
These are the most important parts of the grooming process and usually the longest. If a groomer cuts corners prepping the coat it will affect the quality of the finished groom.

The coat should be fully dried, brushed and combed. Knots or mats left in the coat will cause the clippers to catch and make holes in the coat or the clippers may not go through the coat at all.

Some doodles can be particularly tricky as they sometimes have thick undercoat that needs to be raked or combed out or else the clipper work will be rough and uneven.

The second picture shows Cuppa blow dried, brushed, combed and ready for the clippers. The coat is blow dried as straight as possible for a nice even clip.

CLIPPER WORK
Picture 3 shows Cuppa after the clip. I chose a mid length guard comb for his body and a longer guard comb for his head so that I would have hair to work with for the final shape.

Unless the dog is matted the length of the coat is up to the pet parents. When choosing a length consider how much maintenance you can realistically do at home and how frequently you can get your pup groomed. Short clips might not look as cute but they are low maintenance at home and you can go a little longer between grooms. Long styles will require daily brushing and combing with frequent and expensive trips to the groomer.

FINISH WORK
The finishing work is the final trimming done with a variety of different shears to tidy up and shape the groom for the finished look.

This step can be highly affected by the pets behavior. A wiggly or uncooperative pet makes it very difficult to cut away only what is needed. The best case scenario is a less than stellar groom with the worst case being an accidental injury to the pet.

Pet parents should work with their pretty at home on basic obedience and getting used to having their feet and face handled.

I personally will not fight with an uncooperative dog to make the groom 'perfect'.

Thankfully Cuppa was a champ and his final groom turned out awesome!
