According to Icelandic folklore, the Jólakötturinn, or Yule Cat, prowls the snowy landscapes during the Yule season. This giant feline isn’t your typical holiday critter; it’s said to devour anyone who hasn’t received new clothes before Yule!
The tradition comes from a time when receiving new clothes was a reward for hard work. Those who didn’t finish their chores might end up as the Yule Cat’s dinner.
