The family harvesting for us is working their butts off in the evening. It’s bending-over-back-breaking work and I see that and acknowledge that. And we appreciate the work soo much. Not for the weak 💟

We’re in full blown pollinator season.
Fun and true fact: Bumblebees like lavender much more than honey bees. While we attract the honey bees from our neighbors apiaries, we have 1000’s of bumblebees out here every season. 💜 🐝

I spy with my little eye….a California King snake having a snack by the field. HUGE rookie move when I went out to check on irrigation and didn’t wear boots when we haven’t even clear cut yet. I know better but thankfully we welcome this friend.

It’s the season to start checking lines. My dad made the seasons first 2 repairs yesterday and we still have a freeze coming next week. Going to learn how to do repairs by myself- I’m hoping.
But the view never gets old even if I have a lot of weeding to do on the rows.

It’s that time of year. W**d cleanup is a huge undertaking here when we don’t use pesticides or sprays. Lots of elbow grease and then my Dad will finish up with the brush hog in a few weeks. And then we’ll do it all over again all summer 😂 💪🏼

Life is beautiful out here today. We’ve had numerous days of snow these past couple of weeks but the absolute most stunning days are the ones with sun shining on the white earth. You guys can have your sweltering summers. I’ll stay right here and live outside.

It’s a quiet time for lavender but wanted to show you what a fantastic job a dear friend did pruning ALL of our field and well… it was a woman of course. 💪🏼 She was a total beast!

Calling all Junior Rangers!

We are excited to announce the return of junior ranger programs for the summer season. From bears to waterfalls, this family event provides a wonderful introduction to Yosemite’s natural and cultural wonders. These talks are great educational opportunity for children and adults alike to participate and learn about the park.

Please join our junior ranger programs throughout the week in the following locations:

Yosemite Valley Visitor Center (outside):
Junior Ranger Talk, Every day at 10:30 am (15 minutes)

Glacier Point Amphitheater:
Junior Ranger Program, Mondays at 12:00 pm (30 minutes)

Crane Flat’s Tuolumne Grove:
Junior Ranger Sequoia Explorers, Sundays and Fridays at 11:00 am (30 minutes)

Mariposa Grove Welcome Plaza (near South Entrance, not in the Mariposa Grove):
Junior Ranger Program, Every day at 11:00 am (30 minutes)

Tuolumne Meadows Lembert Dome Picnic Area:

Here’s a video of the not so pretty and worrisome life on any farm. Any tiny irrigation or water issue drastically affects life. I’m worried about the drought and what it will do to those little farms struggling to survive.
You’ll notice some of our ‘struggle’ plants working to stay alive. And I’m proud that you’ll also notice the weeds that we extract by hand. No spray, no pesticides. Just elbow grease. We’ve been continually working for a few months on a VERY old, wonky and weatherized irrigation system. And the beat goes on.
