Bob goes home tomorrow and I’m so incredibly proud of this boy! One of the big issues Bob’s owners were having was the car. Bob was hit by a car when he was really young and was terrified of them. His owners unknowingly nurtured that fear, which made it worse. Anytime they wanted to go somewhere they had to pick him up and carry him to the car, which isn’t easy because he’s a big boy😆. So we worked on teaching Bob that cars aren’t bad and because he’s not a confident boy, we had to teach him to jump up on things. We started small and built on it! I’m happy to report that Bob is no longer phased by car’s driving by and he’s able to get in the car on his own👏🏼🐶💗🙌🏻 #dogtraining #tehachapi
One of Choco’s big issues when he came in was his toy drive. The first thing I worked on was teaching him to relax around toys. The next step was teaching him “out”, so he releases the toy when I ask. Now I can safely play tug with him without him getting mouthy over the toys. I am still rewarding him with food everytime he let’s go of the toy because he’s food motivated and I want a high value reward right now! Eventually that will change 🙌🏻💗🐶 #dogtraining #tehachapimountains
Choco has been here a little over a week now and I’m starting to get to know him and his personality better. When Choco first arrived, the walks took a lot of time because he liked to pancake on the ground throughout the walk. Every time he did this I worked him through it by matching his intensity with the leash until he yielded to the pressure. I didn’t feel sorry for him or try to physically move him. I worked him through it. With consistency and follow through, this is where we are today. He only does this 2-3 times throughout the walk now and he moves through it much quicker. If you would like to learn more, I created a membership page with tons of videos showing how to work through these types of situations.
