I knew you were special when we first brought you home (I was 13), but I didn't know just how special until you came to live with me as an adult. You are the soft, sensitive, yet spunky soul I didn't know I was missing in my life.

You are my shadow, sidekick, and total obsession. You're the reason I am the trainer I am today. You keep me humble and motivate me to be better.

I thank God every day that we found you at that flea market in Tennessee all those years ago. You've been exactly what I needed, and I'm praying for many more years with you! 🧡🧡

Our goal is to enjoy nature in the most authentic way possible, moving together as a pack! 🧡

The walk will start with some deep breathing, body awareness, and calming meditation. We will take the rest of the walk through the beauty of Green Lane Park, enjoying the mind-body connection with nature and our dogs.

This event is open to ALL dogs. Just know this may be hard for reactive ones, so please plan accordingly.

As we want to be very inclusive, we have a few rules in place to ensure everyones safety:

1. NO on leash dog greetings to start
2. NO flexi/retractable leashes or long lines
3. MUZZLES are required for aggressive dogs

I wish somebody had told me this when I got my dog Bella...

We did it ALL wrong 🤦‍♀️

Anytime she was hyper - we gave her affection

Anytime she made us chase her - we'd tell her no, then give her affection and try to "talk sense into her"

Anytime she demanded attention - we gave her affection

Anytime she was scared - we gave her affection

As a result, I've had to work EXTRA hard to retrain her severe anxiety and lack of listening skills.

ALL because we gave her attention and affection while trying to HUMAN-SPLAIN to a PUPPY why she shouldn’t do certain behaviors...

As owners, we need to understand first and foremost that dogs speak a different language than us. I mean, DUH, they are a completely different species!

This also means that affection does NOT translate to them the same way it does for humans.

Yes, affection for both of us means "we like this, do more of it."

But ONLY for humans, does it work to help pull us out of a bad place.

For dogs, whether it's GOOD OR BAD, it will always reinforce whatever state of mind or behavior they are exhibiting.

So don't forget... YOU GET WHAT YOU PET!!

WELCOME TO AUTHENTIC CANINE!

This rebrand has been something I've looked forward to for almost a year!! 🤯

Many of the changes that were made to our structure and services were an early glimpse of this...

So, I wanted to share the story behind the name.

Growing up and being the only little redhead that I knew (outside of my family), I was unique, to say the least, but wanted nothing more than to fit in.

All those South Park ginger jokes? Yeah, that was my childhood, lol

On top of that, I was animal OBSESSED! My first dog was my best friend, I basically grew up on my Pop-pops sheep farm, and I just wanted to say "hi" every animal that I saw!

It's fair to say I was constantly looking for my "place" to fit in and feel "normal" in yet never really finding it.

My journey with dog training started with wanting to know more about mindful and meaningful communication with dogs that I walked and cared for. That's when Dog Psychology entered the stage and sent me on a whole crazy journey of learning to speak, respect, and love dogs as they truly are.

Looking back, they way that I now coach dog mom's to fulfill their dogs and build trust and respect with them is what we did with my first dog.

The instinctual foundation that my parents unintentionally set for her (they didn't know anything about dog training) is what led her to be the absolute best Sheltie, and ultimately...

To becoming the special dog behind my new logo 🧡

I've come so far from the little redhead who wanted to dye her hair anything but red and wished a million times over to be more liked by the kids my age...

And I'm NOT looking to fit the mold anymore!

I'm a fierce Ginger Hippie who is obsessed with her senior Shi-Tzu, sassy donkeys, tiny cows, and 4 crazy cats!!

If nothing else... THIS 👆

The more I put myself out here on this platform, the more I can struggle. It's so easy to compare myself to the next person/trainer. I can sit there and say, I don't have the followers, the videos, the facility, the years under my belt, etc.

While that might be true, there is also a reason I'm here. There is a reason why dog moms and dads, after 3+ trainers, are working with me and finally seeing results.

So despite the pressure that social media can put on me to show up in a certain way, that's not what I'm about...

I want to be known as someone who shares realities and not just the highlights.

I want to use this space for all things genuine in my business and life.

I want to share my passion for dogs (all animals really) and all that I've learned through working with them.

I want to provide value to those who are seeking help.

I want to uplift and inspire others who might feel stuck and need a change.

I want to be a source of holistic knowledge for those who have been failed by social standards.

I want to challenge those who are willing and ready to grow beyond the life they know with their dog, and into the one they've always dreamed of.

Because if nothing else... I will be true to myself and my values, even if it ruffles feathers. 😘

I'm so excited for our March Pack Walk!! 🌞

If you've been coming/have attended in the past, I hope to see you again, and if you HAVEN'T come to one of them yet... WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR?!

This event is FREE and open to ALL dogs!! And is a TOTALLY unique experience compared to your usual "dog friendly" events!

***Tickets are for a head count and to sign this year's waiver if you haven't yet!!

Note that it may be harder for dogs who are working through reactivity, fear/anxiety, etc. If that is the case and you would still like to attend, I recommend showing up early so that you can help get your dogs acclimated to the environment before the meditation and walk portion starts!

REMEMBER:
- NO greetings with any of the other dogs
- NO touch, talk, or eye contact towards other dogs (this can ruffle some dogs who are working through things)
- NO flexi/retractable leashes or long lines
- If your dog is a bite risk/has a bite history, they MUST be muzzled

There is no such thing as black and white in dog training!

So much of a dogs body language is nuanced.

It's intricate, subtle, and can vary slightly for each dog.

So much of what a dog is feeling is shown throughout the WHOLE body.

Not just in one specific body part.

For example, a happy dog will have a loose body and tail wag in line with its body. Speed could depend on how intense the dogs excitement level is.

A nervous dog would have a tense body and a high raised tail with a very stiff wag. The tail here shows the level of alertness.

Both are wagging, but they don't mean the same thing.

👉 THE 3 THINGS I FOCUS ON 👈

What started my official journey with dogs was learning about horse psychology and applying that knowledge into how I interacted with the horses I groomed as my job at the time.

This understanding gave me such clarity on how they communicated and learned that I had to start applying dog psychology to my own dog and the pet sitting clients I had on the side.

THAT was the key to working with more challenging dogs as I started my dog sitting company, and what eventually led me to training as a result of teaching my clients how to understand their dogs and work through the different behaviors that their dogs were exhibiting.

Behavior modification sounds more difficult than it is. You've probably heard that term and thought only a trainer can do that with my dog. But that's not true! I focus on coaching owners about how YOU can change behaviors and build a better relationship with your dog in the process! 🧡

All of this is then taught as daily habits, which then become 》》》LIFESTYLE

I believe that training takes time, yes. But also, every person should be able to have a well-mannered, calm, and social dog without having to spend hours a day with treats in their hand just to teach their dog a skill.

Cause who really has time for that?! 🤷‍♀️

Just 1 week into our Group Class series, and already dogs are exhibiting a calmer state of mind! 🙌

A calm dog is in tune with their human, happier, easier to train, able to socialize and go places. And who doesn't want that?

An excited state of mind will move forward ➡️ Meaning, the squirrel or cat that caught their eye‐‐they are gonna chase it! When you get home, they are gonna jump. Recall? What's that?

Not all excitement is bad, and no tired/bored is not calm... True calmness and contentment is a zen state for your dog and should be fostered before excitement is allowed to happen. This helps to create a balanced and truly happy dog!

I'm incredibly proud of the humans participating and love seeing all the updates! You all came to find that balance that leads to better behaviors, and I'm so thankful to be a part of it!!

It's !! Exercise is such an important factor when it comes to creating a balanced dog! It not only drains their physical energy, but when done right, can drain their mental energy as well!

🐕 Walking is the most instinctual activity for a dog! Walks with structure give your dog a job, and for reactive dogs, this can be a great way to keep their mind off of what triggers them! Examples of structure are:

- Walk in heal
- Follow the leader - change directions frequently to keep them focused on you
- Add a backpack

🥎 Play is another great way to drain energy and bond with your dog! Make it more challenging by asking for focus on you vs. the toy, have them to do a trick, complete an action, or find their toy their toy after you hide it!

🏕 And lastly, exploring new places with your dog! Their world is as big/small as we make it for them! Going someplace they have never been, and either building relevancy or letting them use their nose to take it all in is extremely fulfilling activity!

Remember to always keep your dog leashed unless you have 100% perfect recall and be respectful of other dogs and owners' space!

Hello, hello! My name is Lydia Irene, I’m the owner and head of Hound Sit Co! 🧡

Most people don’t know this, but I actually got started as a pet/farm sitter for family and friends because I love animals. I don’t ever remember a moment of my life when I wasn’t around dogs, cats, and farm animals.

Dogs and horses were my obsession! Was always the happiest when I got to love on and interact with them. After learning to ride horses, I worked as a professional groomer in the fast-paced world of show jumpers.

At the time, I quickly fell in love with learning how to read the horses' energy and body language, because it made it possible for me to communicate with them in a way they’d understand, and I knew right away that it was what I wanted to do with dogs. It took 6 years of learning, hard work, and dedication to become the dog trainer I wanted to be and grow my business into what it is today.

I truly believe I have the best job in the world and couldn’t imagine doing anything else. Working with dog owners who value their dogs’ needs as individuals and are willing to put in the hard work to grow themselves and better their relationship with their dogs is incredibly rewarding!
