VCAS DOG KENNELS ARE FULL! 🚨 Our staff and volunteers leave each night with no open kennels, wondering where we will place incoming dogs that continue to arrive. Here's how you can help:

1. ADOPT. We have 200+ adoptable dogs between our locations. Both are open from 1-6PM this weekend for adoptions. Full process posted to vcas.us/adopt. Walk-ins are welcome.

2. We are asking those who find lost dogs to attempt reunification outside of the shelter if at all possible. Best practices for reuniting lost pets are outlined at vcas.us/lostandfound. Please email [email protected] with a photo of any found dogs, location found, and your best contact info and we will share online as we are able.

3. RECLAIM YOUR PETS! If transportation or finances are a barrier to reclaiming your animals, PLEASE ask us for help. We may be able to assist with returning dogs to their families. Reunion is always our number one goal.

Thank you all for your support and dedication to the people & animals of Ventura County.

In 2023, 6.5 million animals entered U.S. shelters, according to Shelter Animals Count, up 4 percent from 2022. At the end of 2023, 117,000 additional dogs and cats were in the animal sheltering system compared to the same time the year before.

About 850,000 animals were euthanized in shelters in 2023, a rise of 15 percent when compared to 2022. Shelters are striving to minimize euthanasia rates by promoting adoption campaigns, spaying and neutering programs, and behavior rehabilitation.

California's Salton Sea appears to be shrinking even faster than before.

The Salton Sea's shoreline receded by about 40 feet a year between 2002 and 2017, but this rate rose to roughly 120 feet per year between 2017 to 2020.
