Animal Care Technicians (ACTs) are the foundation of our rescue and are responsible for the feeding, cleaning, enrichment, and basic care of shelter dogs and cats.

We rely on their observation and documentation skills to ensure critical information is transmitted to medical, behavior, adoption, foster and temporary care teams as animals move though the various shelter departments and processes ❤️

Thanks to a very kind and generous supporter of ours, Cypress's adoption fee has been completely waived and he can go home with his forever family for $0 🥹

As most of you may know, Cypress is our longest resident here at LOH. Despite being a very sweet and loving dog, he hasn't had much interest from the community because of his breed and his special home needs 😔 We feel so bad for our boy...

We're looking for a family who is willing and able to take this lover boy home exactly as he is, embracing all of his uniqueness! He will need:

🏡 A home where he is the only pet in the household
🏡 A household that's either adults only or has older kids
🏡 Lots of activity/exercise as he has high energy
🏡 A family who's willing to work on his leash manners with him

The face of a brave man who did everything in his power to keep his beloved dog despite the heart-wrenching circumstances ❤️‍🩹 💪

While actively battling stage 4 high-risk advanced prostate cancer he got from his time serving our country and healing from the heartbreak and shock of his wife and caretaker of 30 years leaving him completely stranded with no money, no home, and with absolutely no warning or communication...

Larry showed up proudly to our Sit.Stay.Brunch. fundraiser this year to bravely share his story on stage in front of over 350 people because he was so thankful that we were able to care for his sweet dog BJ with our Temporary Care Program when his whole world came crashing down 🥺

He's told us many times that there are no words to express his gratitude towards us and the work we do, but really...

We're the ones that feel this way about him ❤️ We're so happy that we could be there for him and BJ, keeping them together as they intended to be since BJ was 6 weeks old.

We can't believe 2024 is officially coming to an end this week 🥹

It's been such a wild ride of a year with all kinds of highs, lows, and everything in between! Above all, we feel as though we created a stronger sense of community than we ever have before ❤️

Saving pets and pet parents is something we can't do alone, and we know that more than anything. We've helped record numbers of pets and pet parents this year and we NEED your support to be able to continue to do our life-saving work for pets and people in crisis.

Our goal this year was to bring us all together as much as we could to make more of an impact for the people and pets who need it most. Here's a little look into some of the memorable ways we did that in 2024 😍

✨ From a Howl-O-Ween costume contest with and , an adorable photoshoot with our Tempe Firefighters, and kitten yoga with ...

✨ To a Puff, Paws & Paint night with .floweraz and .clay, launching our brand new virtual fostering program, and throwing a summer pool paw-ty with our pups...

✨ To hosting a doggy fashion show with ASU fashion students, fundraising at the epic car show and tattoo event with and , and having almost 400 of our wonderful supporters join us for our most successful Sit.Stay.Brunch yet...

Imagine losing your pet after unexpectedly losing your partner & caretaker of 30 years...

This is almost what happened to Larry 😔

Thank goodness he found our Temporary Care Program so his pet child BJ was in safe hands while he got back on his feet after his wife left him and took everything with her.

Without LOH, he would've lost his sweet BJ, forever.

As we celebrate this special season, we want to take a moment to send our warmest wishes to you and your loved ones—furry family members included!

These dedicated individuals work tirelessly behind the scenes to ensure that our homeless pets are healthy, happy, safe, and loved ❤️

Even though you may not see their efforts firsthand, their passion and commitment shine through in everything they do for these animals.

But the truth is, none of this life-saving work would be possible without you 🥹 Your generosity, compassion, and unwavering support fuel our mission every single day.

As we inch closer to the holidays, we feel so much gratitude for our generous community 😭😭

Each and every one of you has impacted us, our homeless pets, pet parents in our community, and our overall mission in one way or another and we are truly furever grateful.

We know we say it all the time, but we'll never stop! 😆 You all are our backbone.

Here are a few fun highlights from the last month or so:

✨ Our friends at Desert Financial Credit Union stopped by our shelter with a HUGE drop-off of supplies for our fur babies. Thank you SO much!

✨ We had the most fun holiday party/ugly sweater contest with our staff, fosters, and board members – Erica took the win home!

✨ We got the most heartwarming update from our sweet Charles Barkley's new family and he's so in love with his big sister 🥹

✨ We had a very special visit from the incredibly inspiring Isaiah Glen Shields and his lovely pup Jack between their walking adventures. Our Marketing & Content Manager Tiana gave them a tour to see the amazing work we do!

✨ Our littles got sweatered up for the holidays with our Animal Care/Welfare teams! Allison and Audra got all the puppy love.

✨ Our amazing Programs Director Melody was practically buried in the GIANT supply haul that our dear friends at Arizona Veterinary Emergency & Critical Care Center- Gilbert, AZ collected for us. THANK YOU!

✨ Our Programs Coordinator Taylor helped our friends over at Global Payment bring in their supply donations too - THANK YOU!

✨ Speedy's new family sent us a very sweet update letting us know our furry girly is so happy to be home.

✨ Tiana had the opportunity to swing by the USPS in Tempe with Banzai to tell their team about our life-saving programs ahead of their holiday donation drive for us!

✨ Our all-star kitten fosters Michael and Christa cuddle up with Erica, Jamie, and Allison on our LOH team to enjoy our holiday party after a full year of endless kitty chronicles together.

The love we have for our community, our staff, our fosters, our volunteers, our board, and all of our supporters is unmatched and we hope you all can feel it ❤️

Katie with is such a generous and genuine human being that has so much love for rescue pets 🥹 It was an honor getting to put this fun morning together with her and to experience her yoga flow!

Our very own Marketing & Content Manager Tiana is an LOH adopter herself and poured into our people with some guided meditation and sound healing. Have you ever experienced that before? ✨ It's divine.

Des with took these absolutely beautiful pictures that we can't get over. Her love for pets runs deep too and we can't thank her enough for donating her time and skills getting all the angles for us!
