Cultivating future leaders! Our student, Jane, teams up with our adorable Clover. They worked on some desensitizing with the flag, leading over obstacles and had a terrific grooming session. We love starting youngsters- horses and humans alike.

Looks like our leading lady, Lottie is getting very close to having her foal! Stay tuned for the baby announcement soon! We’re so excited to start this chapter and can’t wait to meet our newest addition to the Deer Run and Sunset Rowe family!

The grande dames of Deer Run- Noelle, celebrating her 26th birthday today- and Granny Hope, just younger at the ripe old age of 25! These two spunky mares still think they’re feisty young fillies. Could be the regular application of love (and cookies) from their adoring fans. Also- a little bird told us that Rebecca June Steele is turning 26 tomorrow!

We have wonderful news for our boarder, Becca! She just had her first ride on her horse Beauty for the first time in a few years! Ba****ck and in a halter no less! Beauty came to us in November for training in careful groundwork to rebuild confidence after an accident, and today it has paid off! Slow and steady, will always win the race.
We are so unbelievably proud of this team and can’t wait to see their relationship grow!

Scenes from our horse camp this week. The kids all learned valuable lessons about horses and their care, as well as reaching some personal goals with their riding- hopefully while having a great time! Lots of new friends and new skills were gained by all.

Big news!! For the first time ever, Deer Run is offering a Level 1 beginner horse riding summer camp opportunity!

Starting May 30th to June 2nd, from 9 am to 2pm, we want to offer riding lessons, horse games, and all sorts of horse activities! There are limited spots available, so please contact us for more details. Also, if we have enough interest in this one, we may plan a Level 2 camp for more advanced riding later in the summer!
We hope to see you there!

One of the best parts of our jobs is watching the confidence build in horses and in humans! Trusting in the process and understanding that confidence comes through experience and guidance, we are honored to get to guide them along the journey. Big things are happening here at the farm, even if they seem like little things!

A little video from roping practice yesterday. Player was trying so hard to be okay with the rope flying around him (with plenty of reassurance from Kass), since this was only their fourth ride. This was Shelby’s second time ever, throwing the rope- and first time horseback! Chip was completely bored with our antics, as usual. 🥱

Rainy day lessons: discussion and Q&A on bits and bridles. We talked about the differences between being”as gentle as possible” and “as firm as necessary” on our horses. After our classroom time, a lesson on balance. Sometimes we actually do fun stuff!
