I always recommend dogs travel in a kennel or crash tested harness/seat belt. All dogs transported in my vehicles are kenneled during transport regardless of their size

Spatial Pressure is something that many people don’t consider when interacting with a dog, especially a dog that might be unfamiliar with them.

Reaching towards a dog, leaning over the dog, walking towards a dog, all of these things can apply pressure on the dog’s personal bubble and cause the dog discomfort. It’s important to keep an eye out for stress signs when interacting with an unfamiliar dog.

Today Oreo joined our group class for the first time!

The goal of group class is to build handler engagement around distractions, which is something all dogs struggle with. If you’d like to join us for class, you can sign up at www.centexdogtraining.com

Clips from today’s session with Oreo including an adorable clip of him getting excited for muzzle training! Oreo’s mom has been working so hard and I am very proud of the progress they’re making.

Clips from this morning’s group class! Today’s focus was Handler Engagement and Dog Neutrality.

Bonnie (small black dog) is 6 months old and her owners have done an amazing job with her foundations. I have been brought in to help them get over some little speed bumps they’ve run in to and they’re doing amazing!

Sven (golden) is a 9 month old service dog in training that has been with his new handler for just barely a week. The program that started his training did an incredible job and now he’s learning how to work for his new handler!

Duncan (labrador) is 11 months old and my personal dog. He attends group classes with me to act as a distraction dog and he does a fantastic job!

Even though I am a CGC evaluator, I can’t evaluate my own dogs. So this weekend we went to visit a friend who is also a CGC evaluator and both dogs passed with flying colors!

Duncan, 11 month old Labrador. Also has his Trick Dog Novice and Intermediate

Nya, 4 year old mutt. Also has her Trick Dog Novice, Intermediate, and Advanced. She was handled by my husband for her evaluation.

Let's talk about this photo. It's cute, except it's not. I see a dog who cannot get up without telling the child to get off. How do you think a dog is going to do that?

The 7 Golden Toddler Dog Rules:
#1: If a dog walks away from you, you DO NOT FOLLOW.
#2: Always leave room for the dog to walk away from you.
---that right there is 90+% of dog bites eliminated---
#3: We do not climb on the dog.
#4: We do not grab or pull on the dog.
#5: We do not hit or throw anything at the dog.
#6: We do not touch the dog's food.
#7: We do not go into the dog's kennel.

I promise these are not overly difficult concepts for littles, nor will they rob a kid of their bond with the family dog. It will deepen that bond, while keeping everyone safe.

"Oh, it looks like Moose is walking away from you. She is saying she wants a break. Let's play with this instead!"

"It's Moose's dinner time! Let's give her space to enjoy her yummies."

"That is Moose's room(kennel) and only she is allowed to go in there."

"If Moose wanted a break, could she walk away from you right now? No she really couldn't. Let's move away from the play house. You can keep playing but now she can leave when she wants a break."

In conclusion, ***parent your child or your dog will do it for you, and you will not like how they do it.***
