Pearl's Place

Pearl’s Place is a Medical Dog Rescue. We work with burns, skin/coat and broken bones. Our one and only goal is to save Dogs lives.

Pearl was adopted from the Harker Heights Animal Shelter the night before she was to be put down. Pearl lived with us the last three years of her life and in her honor we have taken in other dogs that in some minds were less then desirable and have given them a new lease on life. Most of the dogs we take in at Pearl’s Place are;
Code Red on the last ours of their lives
Dogs with skin issues. Dogs

that have been in the shelter for long periods of time
Senior dogs that aren’t wanted
Dogs with broken bones that need orthopedic surgery
Hospice dogs needing a place to live their last days

Often our personal dogs like to see what is going on in the tub.

Diego was standing with Susan to make sure she was doing everything correctly.

Lil was glad that it was another dog in the tub and not her. She is such a little noisy girl. She is being tested to see if she will be a candidate as a Service Dog.

Love these dogs.

16 days until Christmas.

Iris

This girl has come a long way in a little time.

Iris is 59% doberman and just a little over a month has come from knocking on deaths door to a soft red coat.

Iris is learning how to be a dog. She has gone from a life of Heck to having love, food and lots of friends. She so deserves a family of her own.

She will be spayed next week and then she will be looking for her forever.

17 days until Christmas.

Independence (Indy) came to Pearl’s Place in early July. She was one of our 4th of July casualties.

Indy was found wandering down the side of the road in Waco dragging one leg.

We tried to save her leg but an infection had already set in. So, her leg had to be amputated.

Indy is very shy until she gets to know you. Another one of those dogs that socialization wasn’t done early.

18 days until Christmas.

Bobby

His little bob tailed doodlie type puppy is as sweet as can be. His first time being groomed he was sweeter than most for the amount of work he needed done.

Bobby is still a puppy that obviously didn’t get much attention in his younger months so he will need some direction, but he is a quick learner.

He is 8-9 months old, neutered, vaccinated, microchipped and ready for his forever home.

Gretta

This girl wants to be back to normal. She was out checking everything out.

We are still waiting for her test results, hopefully sometime this coming week.

I can’t show pictures of her incision because social media as been covering and sending us notifications that we are against code.

Her incision has a drain in it and has finally started to quit draining. Tomorrow or Monday I will pull the drain. All depends on her healing.

Jessa Janiel - 19 days until Christmas

This energetic almost 1 year old Poodle mix will steal your heart with her personality. Recently spayed, she is completely vetted and ready for a home for the holidays.

She is dog-friendly and likes to play hard. She knows basic commands and is ready to learn more, whenever you are ready to teach her. 50 pounds of fun.

Does anyone recognize this dog?
His name is Cuate.
His owner’s name is Jorge Simas of Killeen, TX.

If you know his owner please let him know Cuate is at the Copperas Cove Animal Control.

They have tried to contact him but one number goes to voicemail and other has been disconnected. We know this information because he was microchipped at one of our clinics. Remember to keep your chip information updated.

❤️‍🩹❤️‍🩹❤️‍🩹Update- the two littlest got checked out. They are in poor shape 2 & 3 pounds. They are extremely hungry and I’m sure they were chilled. They are anemic with a few skin issues. With some TLC they should catch up to the others.❤️‍🩹❤️‍🩹❤️‍🩹

This morning we got a call from the Emergency Clinic asking if we could help. Me, having a senior moment said “what ya got?” Thinking a medical dog. Those that know me know I’m not a puppy person, yet they needed us when others had let them down.

Nope!! They had a box of 9 tiny sickly pups that someone left in the back of the clinic on one of the coldest nights we have had.

So, here I am at the Vet with two that are in real bad condition.

When they arrived they all went into the bath tub, anything that thought might live on them now knows otherwise. They all got dewormed because even though they were all ribby and poor looking they had the little wormy bellies.

We have a nice pen set up in the Senior house, the heat is on. They have a little dog house and food and water will slowly be given.

This act of kindness is going to cost us dearly. Each pup will need three sets of vaccinations, multiple deworming, microchips, food, staff, spay/neuters, leashes and collars and kennel space which we are out of.

There will also be a Vet bill for these two, god forbid any others get sick.

$5 Friday

I’ve missed the last couple of Fridays, time just seems to get away from me and the days all run together. It really doesn’t matter if it is Monday or Thursday around here.

This week we would love to get dogs going out the doors and into forever homes, instead of dogs being returned.

I’ve given up on trying to figure out the why. I just know our kennels are over flowing.

One of the saddest things is we can’t help take in medical dogs when we can’t get out our healthy dogs.

Calvin

This guy is such a sweetheart. He is 2.5 years old and has been with us for 180 days.

Calvin came to us under weight, in bad condition and with no hair.

Look at him now. He loves to ride in the car, is good in public, has gone to doggy daycare and is looking for someone to call his own.

Pearl and Rio

This Sunday morning these two girls got to spend a little time out side just enjoying life. They came in together, mother and daughter maybe? They had both been neglected in a back yard, discarded like trash. Pearl is the sweetest, a younger version of my original Pearl. Rio is deciding that she can order us around and we listen. Aspen Day 4

This isn’t pretty to watch if you haven’t been following her since she has been in the Vet hospital. From where I am sitting and knowing all the work her and I have been doing she is making steps forward. When I brought her home from the Vet she had to be rolled/rotated side to side. Her back legs didn’t respond to and pinching or stimulation. Her bladder had to be expressed 100%. Today, you can see she is trying to move her legs.
