Pearl's Place

Pearl's Place Pearl’s Place is a Medical Dog Rescue. We work with burns, skin/coat and broken bones. Our one and only goal is to save Dogs lives.
(20)

Pearl was adopted from the Harker Heights Animal Shelter the night before she was to be put down. Pearl lived with us the last three years of her life and in her honor we have taken in other dogs that in some minds were less then desirable and have given them a new lease on life. Most of the dogs we take in at Pearl’s Place are;
Code Red on the last ours of their lives
Dogs with skin issues. Dogs

that have been in the shelter for long periods of time
Senior dogs that aren’t wanted
Dogs with broken bones that need orthopedic surgery
Hospice dogs needing a place to live their last days

In a perfect world we could save them all, but as we all know we don’t live in a perfect world. Please share Pearl’s Place far and wide, the more people that know our story the more dogs we can help. Ways to Donate

Lower Cost Vaccination Clinic - Tomorrow- August 31, 2024 from 9-12.

I just wanted to do a little shout out, before our clinic gets here.

#1. Remember we are volunteer based. We will all be doing our best to go as efficiently as possible.

#2. Patience is important and chances are you will have a wait. Bring a book or enjoy your phone for awhile.

#3. Please fill out your paperwork completely and legible. We can’t enter proper information if we can’t read it. Signature on back is required.

#4. If you have any questions, please ask.

#5. You will receive a copy of all your vaccinations and your Rabies tag (if you received) day of clinic. After the clinic we have to enter all the information into the computer. You will receive an email from Daysmart. It will include vaccinations received and dates your dog is due again. Please, print off your copy.

#6. We have the right to refuse service at anytime. Mean, cranky people will not be tolerated.

#7. We ordered almost double what we used at the last clinic, our goal is to never run out.

#8. Let’s make it an amazing day and help as many dogs as possible stay healthy.

Diesel

This boy is gorgeous. He is a year and a half old, 106 #, freshly up to date on his vaccinations, Bravecto, HW- and proheart12 for a year.

Diesel is timid, but is slowly deciding we are good people and he is starting to have his group of dogs to run with. Jamieson is one of his favorites.

He is good with older children, no toddlers because of his size, good with dogs.

Diesel does not like bicyclists. He will chase and knock down.

And look at that beautiful Tiger stripes.

If you are interested in Diesel, please reach out to us and let’s set up a meet and greet. Great Dane experience is important.

When you return a dog and don’t keep up on the minimal yearly stuff this is what it looks like.

What do you think this costs a Rescue or Shelter?

As a nonprofit Rescue, we work and beg for every penny we receive. I find myself getting very up set especially when we adopt out a dog and the paperwork tells you exactly what and when the dog will need it.

Question 1 - What do you think this costs a Rescue or Shelter?

Question 2 - Do you think it would be fair to charge an intake fee on dogs that we take in, going forward?

I really would like to know what you all think.

$5 Friday

This year has been an extremely tough year, not just for us but everyone. The animals are paying the price.

Pearl’s Place wants to continue to fight the fight, but we can’t do it without you.

We are doing our best to keep our dogs safe and to save a couple along the way. We have been helping others every chance we get. We will continue our vaccination clinics to help the community, but we can’t do it without each and everyone of you.

Please follow us, share our posts and spread our Mission.

Karen

This girl is full of herself. When she is inside she wants to be out, when she is outside she wants to be in. I would bet in her day she was a fence climber and maybe one of the reasons she was found as a stray.

Karen has been doing well. We have been keeping her blood sugar within range. She has gained 12 # and is living life.

Let her healing continue….

With the vaccination clinic coming up I need to express some concerns.

I do understand that some people are first time dog owners and truly don’t know what is required to keep your dog safe and what is required by law, especially here in Bell County Texas. Also, if you have any questions, ask your Veterinarian what they recommend. Our Vet might recommend something that yours doesn’t.

Rabies is required once a year here in Bell County. It is mandatory no way around it. The only way an animal can be tested for Rabies is by removing the brain.

Second, DHLPPv includes distemper, parvo, lepto. If your dog is outside hiking, in the water, etc. This is the vaccination that is suggested. This shot is once a year.

DAPPv is the same as above but does not include Lepto. At our clinic this is the vaccination that is free. We receive a grant from Petco to offer this vaccination at no cost. This shot is also once a year.

Bordetella is the vaccination that is required when you board your pet. This vaccination protects against Kennel Cough. This internal vaccine is required once to twice a year.

Puppies require a set of 3 vaccinations, ideally a month a part, as early as 8 weeks. Then once a year.

Puppies require Rabies at 4 months. Larger breed pups can have it as early as 3 months.

When you adopt a dog from Pearl’s Place, our dogs are up to date (to that date). After adoption it is your responsibility to provide them with vaccinations, flea/tick treatment and heartworm testing and treatment.

We get so many dogs returned with the excuse “I didn’t know I had to do that!!”. If you looked at the paperwork we gave you at adoption it’s on there.

An excuse is an excuse!! I’m tired of hearing them.

Please, vaccinate you dogs, especially puppies. The price is much less than treatment of parvo.

An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure! ❤️‍🩹❤️‍🩹❤️‍🩹

A few of the Senior house residence.

Rocko (cider) and Bruiser are younger but they go well with the personalities.

The weather is getting a little cooler, in the 80’s so everyone is enjoying being out a little more.

I personally will miss the heat but the dogs will enjoy being outside more this fall.

Misty

This girl has settled in.

She has been getting a restoration bath every morning and her ears oiled twice a day.

Misty is starting to settle in and wants to play with her toys and really starting to warm up to all the other dogs. Thor wasn’t so sure about her, but Thor can be a big Badbutt.

I would like to see Misty loose a little weight, she is a little plump, but we are working on that also.

When we restore the skin and coat, often times the mind follows right behind. We don’t have a lot of rules here, just basic respect.

Let her healing continue….

Lately all we see is owner surrender and shelters killing dogs for space. Here are some of the reasons we hear and what really needs to be said. I'm sorry if we offend, but it's what every single rescue or shelter wants to say.

1. I'm working full time and don't have time...your dog sleeps all day and would rather be there when you get home then end up in a kennel all day, or worse the landfill. Get up 30 mins earlier and walk your dog.

2. I've just had a baby and don't have time...put your baby in a stroller and walk your dog....and see number 1.

3. I just got a puppy and they don't get along...take them to training, slow introductions and work it out! Meet and greets are so important!

4. I have a cat and he keeps chasing it - see earlier post about Juniper!

5. I'm moving and my new apartment/HOA etc doesn't allow the breed. Try and find somewhere else to live. My personal HOA doesn't allow pits but there are so many in my neighborhood. It's about a trained dog not causing problems and being a good pet owner!!

Please don't let your dog end up in a landfill or worse, dead on the side of the road if you dump them, sh*tty thing to do by the way. Owner surrenders are the first to be euthanized and no shelter is no kill because of the epidemic of dumped and owner surrender dogs. Please, love your animal like your child. Spay and neuter and attend our low cost vaccine clinic to keep parvo and distemper out of CTX.

This picture probably doesn't mean a lot to most, but to us, it's the world! This here is Juniper. For those who have followed us for a while know that Juniper didn't have a great start to her life, but Rae and her family took her on because they saw how amazing she is.

She is currently in training with Copilot Academy, LLC in Killeen to help her not be so interested in the family cat - only one, not all 3!?

When I reached out to Rae and asked if I could share this and say thank you for nkt giving up on her, her words were "of course!! She is worth the money and tons of energy. When you love someone, you do whatever to help them be their best" This right here is who we want for all our dogs. Never giving up through the good and bad! It's our job to create a happy, healthy, safe environment for our babies!

Sorry if I have been a little quiet in the last week or so.

I have kind of been going through a funk.

Everyday, there are so many dogs in need. So many, people tagging Pearl’s Place on posts, them hoping we can help. SO many, Code Reds. So many dogs dying in silence.

I have been watching dear friends of mine struggle. Dogs are dying. I can say this over and over and over again, but until you see it with your own eyes and have nightmares about not doing enough you won’t understand.

Most days, I have been loving on the dogs we have here a little harder. I also have been thinking what I can sell to make enough to keep things going. Maybe, dog feet pictures.

I don’t know what to say lately, so I have been finding myself not saying much.

I’m tired of begging for money, tired of begging people to spay/neuter their pets and am even finding myself not caring if anyone adopts our dogs.

Guess I have gone into protection mode.

Today, there is yet another Rescue pulling 286 dogs in 8 months from a Houston Shelter and word is they aren’t doing anything these dogs deserve.

The Marlin Shelter dogs still haven’t gotten justice, but I believe they will.

Had a call this weekend about a dog from a Breeder here in Little River Academy was found in very poor condition for such a young dog. When contacted, the woman said her x-husband dropped said dog off at Pearl’s Place (lie). The husband told authorities he doesn’t know what happened to the dog. I wasn’t able to help the dog, to much red tape, laws that don’t get reinforced and people choosing not to communicate.

The first two pictures are dogs I took in on Monday. I can say, they both are Vaccinated and fixed, unfortunately for different reasons their families chose to get rid of them. I love my Danes and little miss piggy has skin issues and chronic ear issues. Both have settled in and are receiving all they need and deserve.

The other two are Jamison and Celeste, I was loading up the van to deliver some donations and these two decided they would get in the van and take their seats so I wouldn’t leave without them.

I love these dogs and they have me wrapped around their paws.

Thank you all for loving your own dogs, keep their vaccinations up to date, spay/neuter them and keep them happy. People don’t realize how little a dog really asks for. It’s as simple as giving them the basics. My own dogs get less attention then the Rescues dogs, yet they still love me.

Let the Healing continue…..

Piper and Tejas

They went to the Vet this morning to be spayed and neutered.

After their surgery, Tejas wanted to be by his buddy.

Piper was struggling before Tejas showed up. Since, Tejas’s surgery he has been Pipers shinning light. He has helped her to wander a little more and to help her heal.

Dogs tend to do that for all of us. In our darkest moments, they help us see the light.

These two are both ready to find their forever homes.

If you are interested in any of our dogs, please reach out to us and let’s set up a meet and greet.

Let their healing continue…

This morning, I am sitting outside with the Seniors enjoying the sun and a little cooler weather. I’m thinking about all the neglected, disposed of and dying dogs and cats.

Pearl’s Place doesn’t euthanize for space. We don’t have room, we don’t take dogs.

If you are looking to Adopt or even Foster, time is of the essence.

If you see a shelter saying Code Red, this means dogs will die. In this situation, a dog comes in, owner surrender, stray, ect. a dog must leave. Sometimes in a black trash bag. Another bit of information, owner surrenders will die before stray hold dogs. The stray hold dogs, get a chance for the owners to come reclaim. Owner surrenders, they know who owns them and they just gave up their rights to them and walked out the door.

Please, think before adopting or buying a dog. If you are buying a dog, make sure the breeder is willing to take back the dog when you don’t want it any longer.

Don’t wait go today and adopt or foster your new family member.

It’s a Fabulous $5 Friday.

Education is so important in everything we do.

No matter what you do in your life, please educate yourself. Especially, when it comes to a living animal.

We are seeing so many Rescues struggling, Shelters euthanizing dogs at record numbers and the dogs are the ones that pay the price.

If you have a question ask.

If you haven’t ever owned a dog, foster before you adopt.

If you have a problem, reach out to a trainer, YouTube or the internet.

Please, try to keep your animals in their homes.

Spaying and neutering are the only way we are going to slow the killing of dogs.

Basic Vaccinations, also a necessity. Parvo and distemper are killers of dogs. Rabies are law.

Pearl’s Place is having our monthly low cost clinic on August 31, 9-12.

Let’s all help prevent dogs from dying.

Piper

This girl has taken her sweet time to decide to heal.

Often times, when we are told some of these dogs stories, things don’t add up.

Piper is one of these pups. At the end of the day, the real true story doesn’t matter, but the truth does help with a healing plan.

We gave her time, love and strengthening exercises. Now, she is finally thinking about wanting to interact more with the other dogs.

Monday, Piper will go in for her spay. After her spay, she will be ready for her forever home.

Let her healing continue….

I just picked up little Mr. Earl from the Vet Hospital.

I so wish at times that there wasn’t so much need for Medical care of these Rescue dogs. I know and understand those are the dogs we Rescue and help.

Last month, our donations paid off $11,471. We had a lot of dogs hit by cars after the 4th of July.

This month so far we have paid $4,042, by the end of the month, I want to pay off our remaining balance of $8,399. I know this is a big task, but we need to get it done.

I know a lot of people don’t know, how much it cost for some of the procedures that have to be done to save these dogs.

I’m going to list a few. These prices also include ICU stays (couple days), medication administered at the Hospital, IV’s, medication we bring home, surgeries and anything else you think of. When we take in a medical rescue, we do not pick and choose what needs to be done. If our Vet says our dog needs it, that’s what they get.

Earl - $1,950
Tejas- $1,736
Doggy - $1,656
Piper - $1,866
Karen - $420, not including her insulin and supplies to check her levels on a daily basis.

There are a few other odds and ends on our bill as we have been paying it down.

Please, remember all donations to a legit nonprofit are tax deductible.

Thank you all for helping us, help them.
