Pearl was adopted from the Harker Heights Animal Shelter the night before she was to be put down. Pearl lived with us the last three years of her life and in her honor we have taken in other dogs that in some minds were less then desirable and have given them a new lease on life. Most of the dogs we take in at Pearl’s Place are;
Code Red on the last ours of their lives
Dogs with skin issues. Dogs

that have been in the shelter for long periods of time
Senior dogs that aren’t wanted
Dogs with broken bones that need orthopedic surgery
Hospice dogs needing a place to live their last days

Elvis

Putting a loop on him is getting a little easier, but we are early on in our relationship.

Each time we go outside it’s a struggle, but I believe each time we practice he will figure it out.

I have been using an extension to my hand with a toy or the end of the leash. Today, he allowed me to touch his hip and back but when i get near his head or face he goes into “heck no” mode.

Keep in mind we are only on day 2. It is very difficult to video or take pictures when my attention needs to be on his body language.

He was in the tub room with Susan and they had to play dress up and Model.

Hank had been showing a not so pleasant side of himself lately.

In a couple of weeks he will be going back in for some new bloodwork. We want to keep a close eye on his health.

How about a cattle dog type dog or puppy?

It seems like breeds of dogs, we intake seem to cycle. This cycle it has been cattle dogs or Heeler type dogs. They have all come in for different reasons. No room at the shelter, dumped on a back road, taken to vet for euthanasia, family moved and abandon.

Daisy is an older girl and about as sweet as they come.

I fell in love with her for her little cocked head and bowed leg. At her spay/check up one of her ears has a possible old injured ear drum. She doesn’t appear to be in any pain.

Both these girls love to be loved on.

Our Story

A home for the unwanted dogs in our lives. Pearl was adopted from the Harker Heights Animal Shelter the night before her life was to end.
