Pearl was adopted from the Harker Heights Animal Shelter the night before she was to be put down. Pearl lived with us the last three years of her life and in her honor we have taken in other dogs that in some minds were less then desirable and have given them a new lease on life. Most of the dogs we take in at Pearl’s Place are;
Code Red on the last ours of their lives
Dogs with skin issues. Dogs

that have been in the shelter for long periods of time
Senior dogs that aren’t wanted
Dogs with broken bones that need orthopedic surgery
Hospice dogs needing a place to live their last days

We have an Emergency.

Latte is at the Emergency vet getting ready to have surgery.

Sometimes with these older dogs after their spay surgeries they don’t heal well.

Latte was spayed on Monday, at that time she was anemic and had to be put on IV fluids after her surgery. She has been doing so well as a patient. She has been wearing her cone. Eating well, resting. Text book recovery.

Our estimate for her surgery is $5,657.82 This isn’t the way we wanted to start 2026 but here we are.

Anything will help. This isn’t something that could wait.

2026 has started off with a first.

Little Miss Nova decided she wanted to go for a walk by herself.

She has only ever gone from one pen to another and this morning she decided that she wanted to go for a ride with someone she didn't know.

Thank you to the lady that stopped at the corner and let Nova sit with you for a few minutes.

Nova has now earned herself, the, has to go out on a long
line award.

Sophia was found as a stray and did her time at the shelter on stray hold.

Today was her freedom day and she caught a ride to Pearl's Place.

Sophia is 2-3 years old and very quiet and sweet. She weights 28 # and was a dream to groom.

Monday she will be spayed and then she will be available for adoption.

Every year around the Holidays there are fireworks.

Every year there are notices all over Facebook about the fireworks.

Every year 100’s of dogs go missing, many killed by running scared in front of a car.

What are people missing?!

Some dogs are afraid of Fireworks. If your dog has to go out take them out on a leash. Go with them on a leash. How about a microchip? We do a Vaccination clinic once a month. A microchip cost $15 and we register it for you.

Your dog is your responsibility and if you really care about them, please protect them.

Let’s make 2026 about spay and neuter and microchip your pets.

What a beautiful day for a walk.

How do you pick which dos to walk?

I had never taken Judy for a walk or Jimbo. Why not start there.

Earlier today Debbie and I walked Puma and Goose. I didn’t get any pictures of those two because Deb and I were to busy chit chatting and catching up.

So often time flies by and we forget what is really important in life.

Dogs and friends are two very important things to remember. The dogs silently sit and wait for us to pick them and our friends all get so busy and time stops for no one.

Today was an amazing day. We had beautiful weather and time to catch up with a friend.

Let the healing continue.

This beautiful girl is home with us at Pearl's Place.

We spent a little time with her this afternoon out in the sun. She is able to walk a little. At the time of intake, she could stand for a few seconds.

Emma has to be one of the softest souls I have seen in a long time. Even in the condition, she is in physically, her little old tail still wags. You speak to her, she wags her tail. You offer her a treat, she wags her tail.

With time and love, Emma will make her way back to a healthy and happy dog. Her bones will slowly be covered with flesh, and her eyes will brighten.

I can't wait to see her flourish.
