Don't have much from Malawi any longer. Did keep C. azureus because I just like them. Got about 30 tumbling from a young group of 2 males and 8 females that grew out on one of the 100 gallon vats this summer. Kept them group of albino peacocks to use to get fry from the S. multis I have been raising for over a year now. I always strip the females a few days after they are holding hoping to see baby catfish. Still no luck but got about 100 eggs and decided to go ahead and hatch them out.
Petricola spawned last night. Watched them for a while then wanted to get on video but they got camera shy. Pulled the eggs this morning and loaded them in the tumbler. It is made by Ziss and I have removed to screen that keeps the fry from escaping. The white eggs are infertile and are buoyant and will go out of the tumbler via the opening I left. The good eggs are heavier and will stay in it. These hatch in about 36 hours so I will know how this went by tomorrow night. Missed seeing the last few spawns and none hatched in the container I catch the eggs in.
Finally got to getting a short video of the paracyprichromis. These guys are a little different that cyprichromis. The cyps are an open water fish where the paracyps like to hang out near rocks. I have come in the fish room several times and thought one had died. It was just hanging out upside down on the surface of tank. They are spawning size and I have seen a male courting the females. Have 10, looks like 5 of each sex.
Pulled the adult petricola a few weeks ago to see just what I had in there. 2 males, rest were females. Kept the males and put 3 of the smaller females back in the tank with all the other larger ones. I had been seeing some good size fry that had somehow survived with the parents, there were 22 of them at about 3/4" long.
Picked up some new fish last week. Been wanting the S. polli whites for some time. These are tank raised so I just need time to grow them out. Breeder said they didn't fungus as bad as the petricola. The sausoli are a German strain and not crossed with anything.
Had some Morning Wood Rapashy for a while (they sure picked an inappropriate name), just never mixed it up. Decided to try it and I think the plecos like it. These are albino green dragon and super red fry at about an inch long.
My bristlenose go crazy over fresh zucchini. I just rinse, cut off the ends an slice longways. Then cut into 6 pieces and stick them on a fork. The whole thing gets eaten, they love the outside skin too. It will be gone in less than 24 hours.
Never got the ponds set up last summer. The nice weather we have had got me going on them. Had to clean it all up and get the filters going. They are 100 gallons each, Magdrive 9.5 pump with gravity flow through the bio media. One has bio balls, the other has lava rock. Both seem to work equally well. Now just need to wait until the water gets warmer to add the cichlids for the summer.
Video of my S. petricola breeding tank with a batch of newly laid eggs. Got about 100 from a spawn 10 days ago. We will see how many of these hatch by tomorrow night. I have found tumbling like this to give me the best hatch rates. The fungused eggs will clump together and can be easily removed when the fry are moved to a plastic container for the first 2-3 weeks after hatching.
Got a bunch of bristlenose males that need to go to new homes. There are browns, calicos, green dragon and L144 Blue Eye. For reference the tub is 10" wide. I will be at the DFWAA Swap Meet on March 9. Do not ship.
