This is an amazing story of Missouri’s Mojo and Mary Smith. Mary purchased Missouri’s Mojo one of our Mr. Missouri’s babies and has had tremendous success with him. This is the 4th year YES I said 4th year for her to win TOP TRAIL HORSE! She rode this past year 99 percent of the documented bridleless!! These are trail miles out on the trail with other horses and alone! That in itself is an amazing accomplishment not to mention she had 2567 miles! Total since she bought him she has ridden 9146 miles with no sick days and no hoof issues or leg issues! Mojo has been a trooper!!!! We are excited for Mary and Mojo to hit their 10,000 mile this year! Congratulations to Mary and Mojo on this huge accomplishment! We were excited to get to ride with Mary and Mojo a few weeks ago at Rustic Sky Horsecamp in Melder Louisiana! They are an amazing team!

Sunday is ride day!
We are opening our barn Sunday for you to rent an hour and exercise your horses. 30 dollars an hour starting at 8 am-8 pm one hour blocks. If you want to come in the comments select your hour. We don’t care how many horses you work within your hour. This is not an area set up for barrels it isn’t large enough BUT it is large enough to exercise and do some good work. You may set up cones for slow work. Share please. If it seems like something people want we will continue this during February. All types of horses welcome. Coggins required. 130 reynolds land Thayer mo 65791

GREAT day at Rustic Sky Horsecamp in Melder Louisiana! Mary Smith on Missouri’s MoJo lead us on a 9 mile ride. Mary and Mojo are approaching their 10,000 mile together. We look forward to her reaching that milestone. Kileen Gaddis on Missouri’s Calamity Jane (Callie), Mike on Teeter, Joy rode Missouri’s Hercules. Then we met our favorite Cajun Olivia Descant for a great Cajun dinner!! Can’t wait to meet Baby Descant in a month or so!!! Great to visit with Skylar the owner of Rustic Sky. If you are looking for a winter time haven to ride this is a great spot to land! Headed home tomorrow to beat the really cold weather headed in. Thanks to Sissy for holding down the fort!

Rafter M Training stables on the Horse Protection Act.
We believe the HPA in 2024 was something that horse owners could live with. We do not show horses at this time and we do applaud the HPA for stopping the act of soreing show horses for the gain of a ribbon or title. We don’t believe in causing a horse pain by using devices on the legs to gain unnatural movement.

The HPA 2025 additions do bother us in the ability for horse owners and caretakers to perform duties that are essential to the health and welfare of the horses in your care. As a horse owner you should be able to give medications and other care to the betterment of the horse without a veterinarian on site.

We feel that the HPA considers all horses in all situations under one umbrella of rules. This is the problem. We also feel like the new rules are humanizing horses. Horses are animals and should be treated as animals. Some are still used for transportation some are used as work horses on farms, some are used for recreational activities and working cattle. Some horses are used for show and human entertainment. But in some countries horses are used for a food source.

There are always bad people doing bad things in every aspect of our lives. The entire population should not be penalized for the actions of these bad people. This is government overreach trying to penalize an entire industry for the actions of a few.

We are hopeful that once Donald Trump becomes President that this new addition of rules will be reconsidered after Jan 20th. This doesn’t go into effect until Feb 1. There are always groups of people that are extremists and we hope that the HPA will not cater to the extremists instead it will be something that all horse owners and lovers can abide by. As the new rules are not police able in general. If we do nothing and only the extremists are heard we will find ourselves one day not even allowed to ride a horse because it causes the horse discomfort on some way.

We love and treat our horses very well. We use the least intrusive bits and practices possible to train our horses and use of our horses. We hope that our government will consider the HPA again before it goes into place.

Instead of taking our word for the HPA interpretation of the law please look it up and read what it says and make your own assessment of what the new rules will mean to you and make your voice heard. Type in Horse Protection Act on google.
