Puppy Training Group Classes!

Brought to you by Bronx Veterinary Center & My Canines Keeper

Group Classes are a great way for pet owners to keep their dog challenged and engaged with training. MCK Group classes will challenge your skills as an owner and build you to become a handler.

Group classes are a great way to bond with your dog as well. We aim to have fun but we want everyone to take something out of each class that they can work on for next time.

• Puppies must be at least 8 weeks old and able to go outside and be around other dogs. All pups must have at least two rounds of vaccinations.

Equipment to Bring to Class:

We will have training tools as well as high value treats available for purchase each class but we urge you to come prepared with the following,

• 5 ft Leash

• Long lead (20ft)

• Water/ Water bowl

• High value training treats (will be available during class for purchase)

Puppy Class Pricing:

$85 for 3-4 hour class with options to stay the full length of the class or leave when you like. Payment due before class.

$20 non refundable deposit required to hold your spot

Puppy Class: Puppies under a year old.

Puppy Class is designed to set your puppy up for success in the best ways possible. It's also meant to help new owners gain knowledge needed to help their puppy grow to be the best dog they can be as well as for owners to grow to be the best handler they can be.

What you will learn during class:

How to teach your puppy the basic commands like,

• Sit, Stay, Down, Off

We will also introduce you to these disciplines as well,

• Loose Leash walking

•  Intro to heel command

• Intro to Off Leash Training

Off leash training when taught at a young age properly, will have a puppy grow into a dog you can trust without a leash just about anywhere.

We will break down each activity in a 3-4 hour class designed to challenge both dog and owner to become better and more well rounded in their skills.

What you will need for group class. Safety is our number one factor during class to make sure all equipment is up to date and secure and fitting properly.

BIG NEWS!!!
Please join us in welcoming our newest doctor to the BVC family, Dr. Marissa Ritchie!
Dr. Ritchie was born and raised in Central Pennsylvania. She obtained her BS in Animal Science from Cornell University and then went on to earn her DVM degree from the UC Davis School of Veterinary Medicine. During her studies, she worked with the Cornell Raptor program as an undergraduate and spent time researching Puerto Rican Crested Toads while at UC Davis.

Although she had a puggle growing up, Dr. Ritchie’s first memory of being fascinated by animals was taking in a naked mole rat exhibit at the zoo as a very young child. True to her initial source of inspiration, she has a particular fondness for exotic species and someday wants to have a chinchilla or a bearded dragon. Other areas of interest to her include surgery, neurology, and cardiology. She loves all animals but is technically a dog person and is hoping to add one to her home as soon as she’s settled in!

Dr. Ritchie is a big fan of musical theater and a proud television nerd, and enjoys going out to see productions and staying in to watch the latest shows. She also loves traveling to new places and taking in the local cuisine while she’s there—but in between trying new restaurants, you might also find her sneaking some raw Tollhouse cookie dough.

Hi again friends! On behalf of the BVC Family we want to keep your fur babies safe from current air quality! 😷

To all of our beloved Short Nosed Dogs (Pugs, Frenchies, Bull Dogs, etc.) it is important they be kept inside as they already struggle with breathing in heat as well!

Let’s also be mindful of our Asthmatic and Cardiac patients.
They are already having a hard time with their lungs and can be at risk for respiratory distress.

Lastly, puppies and kittens!
Small pets = small lungs and will also struggle to breathe through thick/smokey air.

Tips! 💡
• Air Filter/Purifyer can help filter the air in and around your home to create healither air for your fur babies and hoomans! Look to your nearest Target/Walmart for same day delivery!

• Let’s keep windows closed and minimal outside activity!

Take a dive 🏄‍♀️ into our Team BVC Pawsitivity Reward Board!.

Meet Jessenia, Level 3 Veterinary Assistant, our employee of the month for April 2023. Because she had the most shoutouts🗣 from her coworkers, Jessenia got to spin the prize wheel and win a pair of customized FIGS scrubs.

Although we dont talk about it much, the veterinary industry is currently in a bit of a crisis. It is overwhelmed and stretched beyond its limits. 😓

Unfortunately, this situation is true throughout the entire country and seems to be getting worse.

Extreme nationwide veterinary staff shortages, physically demanding and emotionally draining work, and abusive clients all lead to severe burnout.

At the Bronx Veterinary Center, we  show how much we appreciate every single employee. We work as a team to ensure we acknowledge and reward our staff 🎁🎉🏆💰

Employee recognition is important — it's directly linked to happier 😁 employees,  productivity, retention, and even customer satisfaction👍

To help maintain a positive, supportive environment, we make sure to show our  appreciation to everyone employee who wakes up every morning and comes to work to save your furry baby’s life, no matter how tired they are.

We help each other out and make sure we appreciate one another❤️. Though you don’t see much team work or appreciation happening within the veterinarian industry these days, we try our very best to be different, and our team knows it.

In order to provide your pet with the best services, we must focus on our employee’s well-being. That's our DAILY focus at the Bronx Veterinary Center!

We love our patients, and we love our staff!

Sincerely,
Kirsys M. Rodríguez

Vet visits can be very traumatizing for your pets.
Strange people, unfamiliar smells, doctors and loud noises can all add up to a very frightening experience.

This is our Assistant Greg and Coco bonding.
Coco came in with a broken leg and while waiting for services Greg made sure she felt safe and secured. Coco loved it.

This is our job, iwhat we love and we what take pride in it!
Thank you for trusting us with your furry family members.

This sweet baby got attacked by her housemate.

It was a pretty serious injury, but don't worry, our doctors fixed her up, and she's doing great now.

Even if a bite wound seems minor, the damage beneath can be much more severe.

A number of factors influence the severity of a dog bite, and while it may seem obvious that a large bite that is bleeding profusely requires immediate veterinary care, you may not realize that a small dog bite can also pose a serious health risk.

It is a good idea to have all bite wounds, whether big or small, examined by a veterinarian as quickly as possible. (This is equally true if a cat bites your dog.)

Why It's Essential to Take Your Dog to The Vet After a Bite

Even the smallest puncture wound can be a major cause for concern due to the high risk of infection.

When your dog is bitten, the tooth not only creates a small puncture in the skin, it also creates a pocket below the skin which forms an ideal environment for bacteria (from the aggressor's mouth) to multiply and lead to an infection.

Because the hole in the skin is relatively small, the skin tends to heal itself very quickly, but in doing so, traps the bacteria within the pocket where it can quickly multiply and turn into an abscess.

While infection tends to be the primary concern for any dog bite, other serious health issues can develop depending on the location and severity of the bite. Other serious health risks associated with dog bites include:

• Infection of the bone

• Infection of the joint

• Cellulitis (tissue infection)

• Accumulation of pus in the chest cavity or abdominal cavity

Of course, it's best to prevent the bite in the first place, but that's a whole other post!
