Have a working breed or a high energy dog? Try adding a backpack to your next walk!
Giving a dog a weighted backpack to carry not only helps drain more energy but also gives them a job to do on the walk. When they are having to carry something, they now have more of a purpose on the walk which will give them more fulfillment.
Backpacks help with draining more energy, slowing the dog down and giving them something else to focus on mentally.
This is the first time I had Kat (my foster dog at the moment) wear a backpack and she did great with it. She is a shepherd mix and likes to walk fast and also gets excited when seeing other dogs. She was a little unsure at first about it but after we warmed up, she was walking like a champ. The backpack slowed her down, gave her something else to focus on and drained more of her energy.
Kat is available for adoption with Rescue Row @rescuerow

Hide & Seek
I love playing hide & seek with my dogs. This is a simple game you can play with your dogs that will help fulfill your dog by allowing them to use their nose to find things hidden around the house. You can use their favorite toy like I did here or use treats.
Start by showing your dog the toy or treat. Ask them to stay or wait in a certain spot. Place the toy somewhere in the house. Tell your dog to go find the toy/treat. Celebrate when your dog finds it!
You might need to start small and hide the toy/treat in the same room or nearby in the beginning.
Next time it’s a rainy day or too hot to play outside, use this game to help fulfill your dog!

Need an exercise for your dog when it’s raining?
This is a simple homemade puzzle for dogs to figure. All you need are a few treats and an old towel or blanket.
Simple wrap the treats in the towel and loosely tie it.
This is the first time Ellie has done a puzzle like this.
Whenever she found the treats in the towel, she started chew and lick the towel. I didn’t let her do that too much. I wanted her to figure out how to actually get to the treats instead of just chewing through the towel to get to them.

Place is one of my favorite commands to work on with dogs
Place can be used in so many different situations such as
🔹at the front door when people come in
🔹when you have guests over
🔹during meal times
🔹when you just want your dog to chill out with you
Place should mean calmness and relaxation to a dog

Who’s Walking Who?
Walking in a pack is one of the most natural and primal activities for a dog. It not only provides physical exercise but also mental stimulation and structured socialization.
Calm Confidence ~ Positive Patience

Like many dogs, Sooty lovesss playing with tennis balls. I don’t want them to become an obsession for her though. Dogs can become obsessed with toys or different objects when the human isn’t controlling the game or setting rules and boundaries. Here I’m asking her to be calm and to give me eye contact before she gets the ball.
Calm ConfidencePositive Patience I love seeing the look on peoples faces when we walk past them. It’s like they are watching a magic trick seeing 5 dogs of different ages, breeds and sizes all walking together. But to the dogs, this is the most natural thing to them. It’s what they live for 🤍#dogs #dogsofinstagram #dogbehavior #dogpsychology #packwalk #dogtraining #dogwalking #thetaschpack
