Meet Lili, she is a 14 weeks old Yorkie puppy that was dropped off at our shelter so we can find a good home for her. The owner got an urgent job appointment out of state and there was no one to look after her so since our shelter was closed she was left with no option than to drop her off so we can find a good home for her. These adoption applications are just for her so if you would like to adopt her use the urgent adoption application link below and put in your application to secure her and get an appointment for pickup. She was adopted from a breeder so she is AKC registered update on all her shots and all the heath papers were handed to us by the owner to give it to anyone who will be lucky to adopt her.

We are going to respond to the application only and this application is just for her only because it is an urgent adoption application not like our regular adoption procedure.

We have had an overwhelming response to our low-cost spay and neuter program. The program is a special project of our volunteer Board, and in addition to the many tasks we are charged with to support the Columbia Gorge Humane Society, including the shelter.

Due to the overwhelming response, we are temporarily pausing processing new applications. This will allow us time to coordinate with the eligible applicants and work with local vets to get spay/neuters scheduled. We appreciate your patience and understanding.

This work is a community service project that does not support or fund our organization or other efforts and is entirely staffed by volunteers. If you would like to support our efforts to help reduce the unwanted pet population, please consider a one time or recurring donation: https://www.columbiagorgehs.org/donate-with-paypalsquare.html

Your donations mean we can focus our energy on this in-demand, needed project.

Thank you!

With Facebook's assistance, CGHS has regained access to this account. We will be working over the next few weeks to merge it with the https://www.facebook.com/HomeAtLastHS/ account. We will be posting over at the https://www.facebook.com/HomeAtLastHS/ for the time being.

We appreciate your patience and apologize for any inconvenience caused by the hack. Please note that while we give donation links (Paypal, Square, GiveButter) we do not transact adoptions over the internet or on social media. We also refer you to the website for our adoption application, as adoptions have some federal requirements we must adhere to. As a reminder, volunteers run our social media accounts currently, so when in doubt please contact the shelter first for urgent questions, including about strays and adoptions.

We appreciate how amazing our community is and how many of you helped with our hacking by alerting us or reporting the posts. Thank you!

In partnership with The City of The Dalles, this month Columbia Gorge Humane Society is launching our low-cost spay and neuter program! The purpose of this program is to reduce the number of unwanted and stray animals in The Dalles and surrounding areas. We also aim to control the litters of puppies and kittens that are currently out of control in our area, which is part of why the shelter is consistently at capacity.
Q: How do I apply for the program?
A: Applications are available at MCCAC (2505 W. 7th) and the Finance Department of The City of The Dalles (City Hall 313 Court Street) starting Wednesday July 3rd. You can also view the application on our website: https://www.columbiagorgehs.org/ (scroll down to green section). They are not available at the CGHS (formerly HAL) shelter.
Q: Where do I turn in my complete application?
A: The CGHS Board is managing this program, so please email your application to info at columbiagorgehs.org. If you don't have access to a computer you can mail or drop off at the shelter on 200 River Road, ATTN: Board President. The City cannot accept your application.
Q: Who is eligible?
A: Our current focus is to help low-income households and our houseless population in The Dalles and surrounding area.
Q: How does the process work?
A: Once your application is approved, we will make an appointment for the spay/neuter. If your pet hasn’t been licensed, you will be required to do so when you pick up your pet post-surgery. Your out-of-pocket cost for the procedure will be $18 for the licensing. If your pet has not had a current rabies vaccination, one will be administered during surgery at no additional cost.
Q: How long will it take to get an appointment after my application has been approved?
A: Depending on the veterinarian, some practices may be a month or two out. We ask for your patience as this is a new program with very busy local veterinarians.
Q: Can I apply for the feral cats in my neighborhood?
A: This program is currently focused on pets. For feral cats, please contact Columbia Gorge Cat Rescue.
Q: Will I be able to use my current vet?
A: Please indicate on your application who your current vet is, and we will work to book with that office for the procedure.
Q: I have more questions. Who can I talk to?
A: The Columbia Gorge Humane Society Board is currently managing this program. Please email us at [email protected], and we will be happy to respond with more information. Shelter staff, City staff, and your vet won't have all the details, so we encourage you to email. We can also pass along questions submitted via Facebook, but be aware it may take a day or two to respond.

Are you looking for a new feline companion? We have a lot of cats and kittens available--more than are currently posted on Petfinder! While we work towards setting up some adoption days and wrangling all the kittens for their close-up, the best way to meet all the kitties to find your perfect match is by filling out an adoption application: https://www.columbiagorgehs.org/adopt.html

Because we do check references, it does take staff a little time to finalize your application, but we are eager to help you find the perfect match for your household! The best way to streamline your application is:
List a current vet that we can use as a reference
If you rent, make sure your landlord is aware and approves of you increasing your household to include a pet
Make sure any references you list are aware we will be calling or emailing, especially as we do so during business hours.

As we see wildfires crop up throughout the Columbia Gorge, its a good reminder to be prepared for emergency and evacuation.

Here are some expert recommendations for how to prepare:

Microchip your pet and register the microchip with up to date information.
License your pet with Columbia Gorge Humane Society.
Keep your pet up to date on vaccinations.
Practice loading your pet into your vehicle.
Create a calming playlist to soothe everyone in the case of evacuation.
Prepare your emergency pet kit!

Your kit should include: at least seven days of pet food (per pet), three days of water (per pet), 2 weeks of medication, a photo of you and your pet, pet collar with id and license, pet carrier, portable bowls, leash and harness, comfortable bed and favorite toys.
