CT
We are up and running with our new Hallmarq Standing CT unit at Piedmont. We are excited to offer this new lameness diagnostic to our equine patients. “CT”, or Computed Tomography, utilizes 360 degree X-Ray technology to create a three dimensional image reconstruction of the lower limb. A scan of the lower limb can be completed in minutes with minimal sedation, and no general anesthesia is required. Standing CT of the distal limb allows our veterinarians to diagnose and characterize pathology with more accuracy than standard X-ray or ultrasound, including but not limited to subchondral fetlock pathology, keratomas, pedal osteitis, coffin and navicular bone injuries, and subsolar abscesses. We can also perform contrast-enhanced CT, which can be useful in identifying joint and soft-tissue pathology. The ability to perform standing CT scans will not only enhance our diagnostic capabilities, but further guide our treatment strategies for our equine athletes.

Not one more
We’re in the home stretch of the Not One More Vet, Inc Race Around the World, a fundraising effort to support mental health and suicide prevention in the veterinary community. For the past month teams from veterinary practices and related organizations have been tracking miles running, walking, cycling and riding to ´elevate wellness in veterinary medicine. ´ Thanks to the organizing efforts of Dr. Kylie Zehner, the Piedmont Equine participants have logged over 350 miles so far in this month long event. The event concludes this Saturday with a virtual 5k (in person option in Boston MA). Visit https://www.nomv.org/race/ to learn more about the Race Around the World, participate in the 5k, or support Team Piedmont Equine across the finish line.
