One thing about downsizing, is how difficult it is to let go of the ones you’ve had for so long. It isn’t easy, building solid horses for the public, so when you have a good one, it’s an honor to offer them after so much time and effort invested. But man is it hard to hand the reins to someone else sometimes. That said, Koffee absolutely deserves a family to dote over her and love every inch of her!

It’s a pleasure to offer her on HorseBid.com and we cannot wait to meet her new family 🖤

If you need tried, true, sound, safe, gentle, and broke, make sure you keep an eye on this fancy mare!

If she hasn’t already caught your eye, allow me to introduce you to Rugrat, a stunning true blue roan mare. Rugrat is a 7 year old AQHA registered mare who has been with us since we picked her out as a fuzzy little foal.

Rugrat stands 14.3, but don’t let her size fool you, she is absolutely brimming with muscle and is easily as wide as she is tall! It’s hard to find a more seamlessly built mare wrapped in a prettier color!

We raised, started, and logged many, many miles on Rugrat, both in the arena and out on the ranch. She is very mannerly, fits right in the middle of a mixed herd, and is the first to greet you at the gate each day. She is gritty, yet forgiving. She is butter soft in the bridle and truly has a featherlight touch in your hands, and stays soft, even for younger riders. She has packed experienced kids in the arena and tracked the dummy quietly and patiently while they learn how to handle their rope.

She is best suited for a rider looking for a step up from their first few old faithfuls, and are ready to experience a very well broke, turn key type ride. She is pretty automatic, yet still very easily molds to her rider. If you have an older kiddo who has flown through the old faithful, step up horse, and are now ready for that quick correct spin, huge stop, and really feely horse, she might be one to keep an eye on! She rides just as fancy as she looks!

Rugrat rides like a reiner in the arena and turns heads wherever we go. She has an elegant way of traveling that would make her competitive in ranch riding and reining. She has a naturally low head set, is flat through her top line, and really is a sight to see when she floats across the pen.

Rugrat is truly the perfect combination of arena AND ranch broke. Quite often, an arena horse just isn’t quite the perfect match for the trails as well, so it’s pretty nice to have two horses in one! One who can be proficient in the arena, then quietly mosey down the trail or go gather a pasture as the sun comes up.
Rugrat has roped and doctored her fair share of yearlings on grass and has drug many a calf to the fire at branding. She is easy to ride and reliable when you need her. She’s gathered the big pastures and enjoyed a quick evening ride to catch the sun going down.

We truly have enjoyed every second with this mare and the decision to offer her to the public hasn’t come lightly. She is one of a kind and won’t be replaced any time soon.

We want each and every horse we offer to have the most successful life with their new owner. So if you ever need a quick refresher, bring her back for a few weeks and we will sharpen up her skills or knock the cobwebs off after the long winter for free!
We encourage anyone interested in Rugrat to come take her for a test drive with us! Feel free to call, text, email, write…anything you need and we will do our best to answer your questions or get a specific video for you!

07/09/2024

We recently sold 3 geldings, each of which had a soundness issue keeping them from being a horse worth more than double what we were asking. Yet they were each still MORE than functional and able to cover ground comfortably enough for lighter duty jobs, and better yet, they were great kid horse candidates.

I was absolutely shredded online for offering “crippled” horses and for not just “giving them away.” Each gelding was a young teen aged gelding who still had PLENTY of life and miles left in them, so there was no reason to condemn them by any length.

My parents didn’t send me to school in their brand new pickup with all the bells and whistles. They bought me a safe, relatively reliable, ugly old car that had a hood reminiscent of a smoothed out ball of tin foil, to get me from point A to point B. It had its issues, it died in the middle of the drive and Dad just happened to be pulling in behind me so he just shoved me up the drive ahead of him, fixed its ailment, and sent me on my way again the next day.

I think the same applies to these older horses needing maintenance. I’d like to think folks have started to figure out that buying a c**t the same age as your kid so they can “grow together” isn’t the wisest approach. So that leaves the older, seasoned, take a joke horses to teach your kids how to handle the younger horses later on.

I completely understand not wanting to risk several thousand dollars on a horse who is not sound. That investment is risky! I’ve certainly spent a ton of money and time on a horse that, to outsiders, didn’t seem like a wise use of money. That horse could become even worse in the blink of an eye, and they could turn into a money pit of vet bills. But, speaking from experience, you can lose a young, sound, 5 figure price tag horse in the blink of an eye just as quick.

Those older horses came by their arthritis, bad knee, ginger walk, and stiff back honestly over thousands of hours. They’ve seen the spooks and they’ve been in the wrecks and have come out better for it. Even if you get 6 good months minimum out of a good old horse, that’s 6 months of confidence building for your kiddo to take with them to their next mount.

All this to say, don’t turn away a nice older horse with some maintenance. Their experience is worth the extra effort to keep them comfy, and the peace of mind of having your kid on the back of a safe horses is immeasurable.

If you’ve followed us for any time at all, you’ll know that this mare is pretty special to us and was deep in our keeper pen. We have decided to let her bless another family who needs an elegant, fine tuned, fancy little mare to show to the world.

Rugrat has been with us since she was a furry little weanling and Bridger has done every ounce of her training from day one and he sure has her shining like a copper penny!

She is offered on HorseBid.com, the platform that has brought the most perfect families to our horses and, although bitter sweet, we cannot wait to see who gets to take her home and make her their own 🖤

Looking for a great family quarter pony? Give our sweet Poppy a look!

We call this flashy little lady, Poppy and she is the perfect addition to your handy little cowboy or cowgirls’ string! She has a gorgeous silver flaxen mane and a nearly white tail that drags the ground! She is 9 years old, stands 13.2, roughly 900 pounds, and is as stout as a full sized horse. Finding a quarter pony as nicely built as Poppy is getting increasingly difficult to achieve! She’s the perfect size for your handy kiddo to pilot, but she is still plenty big enough for mom and dad to hop on and enjoy as well!

We bought Poppy last year as a prospect for our new little one to grow up with, and as luck would have it, our furnace gave up on us and those are not cheap to replace. So, we have made the decision to let her go to a new family to help cover the cost of a little heat this winter, considering, we have a newborn to keep warm!

Poppy does have a bit more motor than your starter pony, so if you are looking for second gear, she’d be the perfect fit as a step up pony. We really had our hearts set on her being a sweet little heel/breakaway pony with her size and ability! She is very much controllable and easy to steer, but she isn’t one who needs peddled every stride to get somewhere. Poppy is as gentle as you could ask for, knows her leads, is nice and soft in the bridle, navigates easily for little hands, and already has a pretty hefty resume.

Poppy has proven quite fun behind the hot heels and we feel she would make a stellar heel pony or breakaway pony for the rodeo road! We really hate to let her leave us because she truly seems to have the talent to be a big time arena pony or the perfect match for a ranchy kiddo to check pastures, drag calves, move cows with.

Poppy is also quite confident on the trails and will go happily any direction you point her. In her previous home, Poppy was ridden English and western, hauled to fun days and local shows, as well as taken over small jumps and through the pattern. She was also used for lessons for all sorts of kiddos, but we feel she is best suited for a confident kid as she can occasionally decide to do her own thing and takes a little guidance to get back on track where the kids wanted to go.

While we are bummed not to have the opportunity to keep her and see our little girl on her, we are confident she will be the perfect addition to someone’s family. She is the sweetest, cutest little mare that anyone would be happy to add to their family!

Please don’t hesitate to reach out for more videos or information! We would LOVE to have you out to take her for a spin as well! I am happy to answer any questions you may have and we look forward to meeting her new forever family!

Anyone who knows us, knows what St. Jude Children's Research Hospital means to Bridger and I

You can send the kiddos a Valentine’s Day card! This is a pretty neat way you can show your support if you are unable to do so monetarily. It is completely FREE and the kids really love it. It only takes a minute of your time 🖤

Choose a sweet e-card featuring layouts inspired by patient art, and then select a pre-written message, or create your own!

I hate to see northern folks poking fun at the panic and chaos happening with southern states right now who are experiencing temps in the teens or just below zero.

Imagine having 100% humidity hit in the middle of July and watching your livestock suffer because they are NOT built for TRUE humidity. I’ve been in Texas in August. You could fill a kiddy pool with the sweat from my bra and socks after walking from the hotel to our vehicle. I am not built for humidity, and I consider myself decently in shape and acclimated to outdoors better than in, and it was ROUGH! Imagine a black hided angus in the Feedyard in that kind of weather after a literal overnight shift, or your horses going from 80° dry heat to 110° with 100% humidity. That would be cause for alarm as well!

Yes, it seems silly to see so much uproar considering that’s rather balmy compared to what we are currently experiencing at -20 with -45 or colder wind chill. But we are FAR better prepared for it than southern states can even fathom. They barely have top soil covering their pipes, hardly have insulation in their walls to protect the pipes within their homes and structures, and they legitimately dropped from 70° to 10° in a matter of hours.

Have a little compassion. They can’t just go to their local store and pick up winter supplies like we have readily available, even in your local grocery store in some places.

It isn’t a contest as to who has it tougher. If you don’t want to be outside in this weather, don’t have the PRIVILEGE of owning animals. They are not cheap, they are not easy to maintain, and they are not a necessity. Everyone has a right to be concerned with this massive temperature shift and if you’ve been around people…well ever…you know it isn’t just the old men at coffee talking about the weather! Conversing about the weather is just human nature.

And yes, blanket your horses if it helps you sleep at night! Every single one of our horses is wearing a bkanket. Helen and Manica too! We are the ones who have to manage them, and if that means we want to pay $70/blanket for 25 head of horses and two cows, we will happily do just that and sleep better knowing we did everything we could to keep them all comfortable.

Everyone has it bad with this weather right now. Just figure out how to manage your own chaos and help others if the need arises and you are able.

Anyhow…that’s my two cents for the evening 🤷🏼‍♀️

We are honored to introduce the absolute coolest and most UNIQUE horse we have EVER had the opportunity to call our own. Sully is a 12 year old, true blue roan full Brabant gelding who stands 17 hands tall with a mane and tail most horses couldn’t dream of! He is absolutely the definition of a gentle giant.

Giant being the key word! If you look up enormous in the dictionary, you’ll find a photo of Sully himself! We have had Sully for many years now, and if you keep an eye on us online at all, you will know that he has quite the following of people who love him just as much as we do! Rest assured, you will be the talk of any event you take him to and people will stop in their tracks just to have a look at this handsome gelding! He has been known to stop traffic for a photo op when he’s spotted out on pasture in the summer because he definitely stands out in a crowd!

Sully has been ridden in the rain, snow, and sunshine and rides the exact same be it January or June. While he isn’t a fancy reiner or an agile cutter, but he IS the type that you can wipe the snow off his back, crawl on, and go for a nice, quiet ride with. We have ridden him on the trails, through town a handful of times, and hauled him to several of the neighboring ranches to gather pastures and move cows on him and he has always been a joy to ride. He is the one everyone clamors to ride when they visit and he is happy to oblige!

While we have had him quite a long time, he hasn’t had the miles most of our horses have, simply because he’s a Mack truck and it takes more of a dune buggy to maneuver these hills and still have horsepower left by noon. He’s built for feed, not speed, and is much more keen to enjoy the leisurely side of riding. That said, Sully has a nice handle for the riding he has had! He’s one we can grab off pasture, throw a saddle on, or hop on ba****ck for that matter, and turn a newbie loose with just to mosey around the arena.

He is nice and soft in the bridle, respects your seat and legs, moves off of pressure, and absolutely floats when he moves. For his size, you would think he was rough and cumbersome but he is honestly one of the smoothest horses you will swing a leg over! He will go to his new home with his very own custom made headstall, custom made bit, and reins so he is ready to ride when he arrives!

Sully has primarily been ridden with a buddy horse and does very well with a friend to meander down the trails with. I would not call him buddy bound, but as with most horses, he is much more comfortable with some company on your ride. He can definitely be ridden independently as well! He just takes a little more steering to coax him off on his own. I would not hesitate to use him to pony your littles down the trail or lead behind your horse in the pasture. He can fit half a preschool class on his back so he’d make a stellar horse if you have multiple kids and too few horses to mount everyone!

He would also fit a beginner rider who is already riding solo and knows how to steer right and left as Sully does quite well with a direct rein for the less savvy riders. He hasn’t quite perfected his neck reining 100% of the time, so it is helpful if you are able to guide him around a little now and then. His favorite speed is slow and steady. He will give you ample opportunity to take in the sights on your ride and doesn’t get in a hurry about much aside from getting to the front of the line when you hand out treats!

An added bonus? Sully does not require stocks to be trimmed. We trim him ourselves and he is kind, polite, and patient and was a breeze to trim, even with me being 31 weeks pregnant and needing ample breaks between each foot! He stands quiet as a church mouse and will lift each foot for you to trim. He is one of the very few draft horses you can trim without the use of stocks or a tilt table, so your farrier will thank you!

A horse like Sully is truly the definition of once in a lifetime. You simply will not find another like him. This will be one of the hardest horses we have ever had the bitter sweet pleasure of finding a forever home for, but we have finally admitted that he deserves to be more than a fun photo op or sporadic weekend trail ride. He is ready to be someone else’s pride and joy and we are pleased to offer him to you through HorseBid.com!

Please do not hesitate to reach out with any questions you may have or to schedule a time to come take him for a spin! He means a LOT to us, so we would love to meet any potential new families looking to bring him home!
