Northern Tropics will not be having open hours tomorrow, August 25th due to sickness. We apologize for the inconvenience!
FYI: Northern Tropics will be closed this coming weekend starting Saturday, August 17th until Monday afternoon the 19th.
Northern Tropics will have live reptiles from 12-3pm on Saturday, August 10th at Oklee Market Day!
Baby garters are arriving!! They are being birthed as I post this so I don’t know a total number yet. These are checkered and albino checkered garter snakes and soo cute!
Don’t ya just hate it when you finally learn the layout of a store and they go and change it on ya? We did that this weekend, sorry not sorry. 😉
FedEx shipment got delayed so we are out of crickets til Monday, sorry!
Black and white beauties! 2 baby corn snakes just came in, a black/anerythristic and a snow corn. Come check them out!
**Change of hours today.**
Please note that our open hours today will change (from 3-7pm) to 5-8pm, and our fair booth hours will be changing (from 1-5pm) to 1-4pm.
Thank you!
Our booth is set up and ready at the Pennington County Fair! I’ll be bringing reptiles in at 4pm.
Northern Tropics will have a booth again at the Pennington County Fair. Hours are listed in the comments.
Blue Death Feigning Beetles are now in stock. These blue beetles are easy to care for and make great pet bugs. They’re docile, don’t bite and will hang out on your hand.
Ever want to try going bioactive with your reptile? Northern Tropics is pleased to expand our line with Josh’s Frogs, we now carry their bioactive substrates for both desert and tropical environments. These substrates take the guess work out of mixing various soils and are set up to support plant life. Live plants and Isopods are available for each of these terrains as well.
New stickers have arrived at Northern Tropics, these ones are of our own animals and are a dollar each. We have Elvis, Lucy, Tank, Avaya, and Acara (many of you don’t know Acara because she’s in the house but she is the sweetest beardy). What other animals in our zoo would you like to see stickers of?
Haha!
🤣🤣🤣❤️
Although Derby is pretty shy around people, every once in a while when I open his cage he climbs out and wants to be held. 😍
Becky will be gone from Wednesday, May 15th to Sunday the 19th. But Patrick will be around, please text him for appointments at 218-686-4299.
You can still reach out to me for questions during that time. 😊
“Red Bull gives you wiiings”
Apparently Dubias do too?
When all the feeders come at once! Reminder, we are now open on Sundays from 3-7pm with no appointment needed. 😁
One of our newest additions is out and about today. This is Mando, a Hog Island boa who is as handsome as he is sweet!
We lost our beloved Beans today. A few weeks ago she had developed neurological issues and had seizures from it leaving her paralyzed from the neck down. I had been syringe feeding and watering her since then, but her poor little body gave out today. We will miss her sweet personality and calm demeanor.
Starting Sunday, March 31st (yep, that’s Easter) we will be open on Sundays from 3pm to 7pm! No need to make an appointment during that timeframe, just stop on by. We will continue to announce times when we are not available (gone for a weekend, etc) on this page.
Monet our female boa has finally moved out to the zoo. Come check her out along with her new boyfriend Mando!
FYI: Becky will be gone from Friday, March 1st to Monday, March 4th. Patrick will be available to take care of your reptile and fish needs. Feel free to text him at 218-686-4299 to schedule a time. 😊
Hey Everyone! We are entertaining the idea of being open for a few hours on a set day where you don’t have to make an appointment, you can just pop in. Please weigh in, would you prefer us to be open on Fridays from 4-8pm or Sundays from 4-8pm?
FYI: Northern Tropics will be closed next weekend. From Friday, Feb 16th to Sunday, the 18th at around 4pm.
The sound of crickets has once again filled the air!! Fresh lively crickets are available again at Northern Tropics!! Still 13 cents each.
Change of plans. Northern Tropics will be available this weekend after all. I caught myself a little cold so we rescheduled our arrangements. We are available for appts like any other weekend. 😊
Just a heads up, Northern Tropics will be closed Friday, January 26th to Sunday, January 28th. We will be available again around 4pm on Sunday the 28th if you need to grab anything for that following week. Thank You!

All 3 mourning geckos are having some supper. This species is all female. When they reach a certain age they simply lay an egg on their own and it hatches into a mini version of themselves. This process is known as parthenogenesis.
Fresh Crickets have arrived at Northern Tropics! As always these are banded crickets (not brown crickets found in the big box stores). Banded crickets live so much longer and are healthier for your pets. They love their veggies so that means your pets are getting the benefit of the crickets diet as well!
Starfish are so cool! Here is our sand sifting starfish at Northern Tropics. They spend most of their time under the sand so it’s fun to see them out and about.
This little cutie is one of the available reptiles at Northern Tropics. Her along with 4 ball pythons are looking for their forever home. All of them are eating very well!
A fresh shipment of banded crickets arrived today at Northern Tropics! Since 1 inch crickets are nearing the end of their life we have decided to carry 3/4 inch crickets instead of the 1 inch. They look the same and have a better chance of being fed off before dying naturally. Prices remain the same for the 2 sizes, 1/2 inch and 3/4 inch are 13 cents a piece. 🦗
Fish available: Jaguar Cichlids and Midas Cichlids (the ones with the bump on their head). $10 each.
One of the Mourning Geckos enjoying some Pangea. Teeny Tiny Cuteness!!That dish is actually a small bottle cap from a 16 oz bottle of water. So don’t feel bad if you can’t spot them in person when you’re visiting Northern Tropics.
Beans, the Leopard Gecko has moved from the house into the zoo. Come see and interact with her. Here she is enjoying a hornworm.
Many of you who have visited Northern Tropics haven’t seen the Mourning Geckos because they’re always hiding. Here’s a video of them feeding. Their cute little tail wiggles as they hunt is absolutely adorable! 😍
Although this page is called “Reptile Division” I can’t help but show one of Patrick’s favorite fish having dinner. A Silver Arowana. Growing like a weed but still has so much more to go. Silver Arowanas can reach up to 3 feet in length. Needless to say we’ll have to special order a huge tank for this one.
