Hey everyone, I would like to introduce myself. My name is Courtney Spillers, formally Courtney Roberts and I am now the woman behind the lead.
Strebor Great Danes was established in late 2005 when me and my mother purchased our first well bred Great Dane ”Zoe”. A few years earlier we became interested in the breed as we saw a black Great Dane while picking up a wood burning stove that my family purchased for our newly built house. It was instant love at first sight. Getting familiar with the breed then led us to purchase our first GD, Checkers our Harlequin Great Dane as a pet. Next it led to another and another and and then a breeding that landed me my very first Junior Showmanship dog, Wilson, my natural eared Harlequin and what had kickstarted my love for these gentle giants. Eventually my mother and I had multiple litters and ventured out to well bred Fawns and Brindles. My mother taught me the ropes and we continued to learn about this magnificent breed from a friend that my mom and I acquainted with. Multiple more litters gave me more Junior Showmanship and bred by dogs that I so enjoyed handling until I reached the age of 12. That year a sudden stop was needed, as my 12 year old self went down hill with a liver diagnosis that was unexpected. Now 15 some odd years and a liver transplant later, I have now taken the reins and strive to continue what we had started for this breed with still a little help of my mother and long time friend and Great Dane breeder, Toni Walters of Vonscheer Great Danes.
Our last bred by Dane passed in 2017 and it was devastating. She was my whole heart. After being sick for so long and then finally getting my transplant in 2019, I figured it was finally time in 2021 for a new Great Dane when Toni had a few puppies available. After a week or so of thinking about it, we jumped in the car and headed to Chicago to meet our girl who would then jumpstart Strebor Danes again instead this time under myself.
