🐈🐾 Kimchi is ready to find his forever home! 🐾🐈

LOCATION: Thomasville, NC
CONTACT: (919) 931-0160 ((text ONLY please!!))

Kimchi is a very sweet boy who came from a litter of kittens in my apartment complex and had been living outside for some time before I was able to socialize him enough to touch him. He has been fully vaccinated (next shots not due until January 2025), neutered and microchipped. He has a pet insurance policy through Trupanion, which costs around $32 a month and can be transferred to the new owner. We also have enough heartworm prevention for him until his next vaccinations are due in January, all of that will be sent with whoever adopts him!

He has the most amazing demeanor of any of our foster kitties, he has adjusted to being an indoor kitty so well, with no issues using the litter box and no behavior concerns. He gets along great with our two personal cats and he absolutely loves cuddles! He lets us brush him, trim his nails and even shave out any mats that he might form from playing too hard.

Kimchi needs to stay inside only from now on! He has shown no interest in returning to outdoor life, but regardless, we never adopt out to anyone who will allow the kitties to be outdoors. Even if you have a lot of area for them to roam, we have seen too many horror stories of cats that wandered a bit too far. A vet reference will be required before adoption!

Full disclosure, he has had a few health concerns that we have been investigating, these can be discussed further for anyone who is interested in him. Definitely has not been anything too serious, and this is definitely the reason we recommend keeping him on Trupanion!

If you are interested please shoot me a message on Facebook Messenger or send me a text! Please share this post so we can find Kimchi the purrrfect fur-ever home ❤️🐾

This is Wonton (Orange tabby male) and Dimsum (Grey tabby female), a couple of the feral cats I have been caring for for awhile. They are both fixed and have had Rabies and Feline Distemper vaccines updated.

These cats were trapped underneath our apartment building and the exits were purposely blocked off. Animal control will be called tomorrow to see what we can do about our leasing office purposefully keeping the kitties from food and water, but in the meantime a more urgent situation is that they need somewhere to go ASAP!

We cannot leave them in our apartment we already have three other cats here and the cage we have them in currently is very small. They have been 100% outdoors up until now so I anticipate a rough few days while they try to acclimate to being in a crate. For now they are at least safe and warm.

If you know anyone who has a barn or other area that could provide shelter for these cats please reach out ASAP!! We absolutely cannot keep them here with us even though we wish we could.

🐈🐾 Kimchi is ready to find his forever home! 🐾🐈

Kimchi came from a litter of kittens that first showed up outside my apartment in August 2022. For those of you who have seen my post about Wonton, that is his brother. Kimchi took a while longer to warm up to me than his brother Wonton did, but once he finally started letting us pet him he could not get enough. He gets jealous if anyone else is getting a drop of attention that he isn't getting! He's a very talkative kitty and he has been great letting us to everything from vet visits and physical exams, to shaving mats from his coat and brushing him and even trimming his nails. Almost nothing seems to bother him. He does get along with other cats but we think he'd do best in a household with no more than one other cat, preferably none. He of course is not a fan of dogs and we haven't had the opportunity to check his ability to tolerate children.

He is an INSIDE ONLY cat! Yes he was born outside and grew up out there but since mid-November 2023 he has been strictly inside only. He uses the litterbox well, loves to cuddle and he greatly enjoys the comforts if indoor life.

Kimchi has been fully vetted including all necessary vaccinations, full labwork, neuter and microchip. He is not currently considered special needs but he has had some questionable health concerns recently that are being investigated to the best of our ability. If you're interested in him we would of course make sure you are up to date on his health status before handing him over.

He is currently enrolled in Trupanion pet insurance. We have already checked with Trupanion policy and his policy CAN be transferred to a new owner but has to be done within 30 days of adoption. We HIGHLY recommend keeping him on this policy of you adopt him because it will definitely help alleviate any costs if he has any future health issues. Again if you're interested in him we can discuss the details on this further.

Please contact me via Facebook Messenger if you are interested! And please share this post if you can't take him in. Be sure to change the privacy setting to public so that we may reach more people 🙏🐾

I'd like to introduce everyone to Wonton...

Wonton is one of the outside kitties that I have been caring for since August of 2022, shortly after we got settled in to our apartment here in Thomasville. He has been a sweetheart since the very beginning; of course he was a little timid at first which is not unusual for a "feral" cat, but once he learned that we were there to help him he absolutely cannot get enough attention.

We are trying to find a home for Wonton to go to, because our apartment complex is being exceptionally difficult now that they are under new management, and I fear for Wonton's well-being.

He does like to come indoors occasionally out of the rain, but we do not trust him to use the litterbox properly nor do we have the space to separate him from our own cats to spend the time properly acclimating him to indoor life. A prior neighbor of ours did try to take him in a few months ago but in the end he had to bring him back because he was peeing all over his house (yes this was before he was able to get neutered). I believe he could be litter trained but it would likely take some time and a lot of hard work.

He has veen vaccinated for Rabies and Feline Distemper. And he has been neutered. He did have an abdominal hernia that was repaired when he got neutered and he has been very healthy since then. If you know of anyone who needs maybe a barn cat, or has land and shelter that can take him in, ir even if there is anyone who may have the time to litter train him and acclimate him to being indoors, please send them my way!! This is a seni-uegent situation in the sense that he just needs somewhere safe to go before our leasing office decides to do something rash and unnecessary.

‼️ Important Announcement! ‼️

Due to a lack or resources, AWR will be on a hiatus for the foreseeable future. We haven't been able to get the support needed to continue rescuing, and so we've had to make the difficult decision to put the whole rescue on hold for the time being.

We will still continue to make an occasional post to give updates, however we will no longer accept any intakes. We appreciate those of you who've stuck with us so far, and we hope that one day we'll be able pick it back up and turn it into what we hoped it would someday be. ❤️

It has come to my attention that some of our posts have not been going through all the way so hopefully this one does!

We were surprised with miniature Carol's a couple of weeks ago when I got home from work Carol went into labor and had two beautiful babies which we named Thing 1 (girl) and Thing 2 (boy).

We did not receive enough donations to cover her initial visit with the specialist so we have been tirelessly working to find her a new foster to go to where she can possibly receive more help than what we are able to provide. Yesterday evening I received word that we've found a rescue for her to go to!

Carol and both babies will be transferred tomorrow morning to the care of Susie's Hope, so if you're interested in still following what's happening with her please go check them out.

We hope you all had a wonderful Halloween weekend 🎃

Despite my long and hectic work week, I did manage to reach out to the specialist and get Carol's initial visit set up. She is currently scheduled for the morning of October 19th, but it may need to be pushed back depending on if we've not gotten enough pledges for her.

The consultation visit is very important because they will check to make sure they're comfortable doing surgery to begin with. That will include x-rays to ensure her diaphragm is intact (remember if the diaphragm is not intact she will die as soon as they open her up). We were told this initial visit would cost between $300 and $550, depending on how many xray pictures they'll need to take.

Carol is such a wonderfully sweet and loving cat, and we want to make sure she can have the best life. Without donations, that just isn't possible no matter how much we wish for it. If you'd like to help Carol, please share our posts about her story and who she is. People often underestimate the power of the word of mouth. Donations can be sent via Venmo , or by calling her specialist directly: Carolina Veterinary Specialists of Greensboro, (336) 632-0605, just say you're making a payment towards Carol from Angel Wings Rescue!

We appreciate everyone who follows us, and we hope we can continue to provide more of the happy stories that you all love to hear about.

We have some more news about Carol, and while it isn't devastating, it certainly isn't what we were hoping to hear.

As you know, Carol had her first visit at the vet Wednesday evening. We needed a couple of days to process what we were told and to figure out what to say.

This first visit was solely for the purpose of her being examined and to get a better idea of what we're dealing with in terms on her hernia, and get an estimate for proceeding with surgery. We watched as the doctor examined her, and this is what we were told:

The hernia will reduce easily which means the body wall is not cutting off her organs at this point, however the doctor was having a difficult time feeling the body wall almost at all, which means that there would not be enough tissues to close off the abdominal cavity once the organs are placed back inside. In order to safely proceed with the hernia repair, she will need to be referred to a specialist that has experience using a type of mesh material that can be used for securing the body wall to prevent the organs from coming back out. She would also need xrays before surgery can be deemed safe to move forward, because if her diaphragm is not intact when they open her up, her lungs would fail to work and she would likely not survive.

We also had some baseline bloodwork run on her that evening, to check that her organs were functioning normally and that she would be a good candidate for general anesthesia. Most of her labs came back amazing, however she did test positive for FIV. This is certainly not a death sentence and cats with FIV can live very long and quality lives, but it does mean that she will need to stay in a household that either has no other cats or that will have a dedicated space for her, to prevent the unnecessary spread of the disease (which is done by the infected cat's saliva coming into direct contact with another cat's blood stream).

We would love to move forward with the specialty referral, but we are anticipating it to be quite costly as most specialty visits are. Despite us knowing that it would be what's best for her to have a proper life moving forward, we won't be able to move forward with it unless we are able to raise enough funds to pay for it. We will remain in contact with Carol's doctor and get an estimate for what surgery might cost us if we are able to move forward with it. We'll update you all again once we have more information to share, and in the meantime if anyone would like to donate to Carol's medical care you can send donations via Venmo

Carol just got upgraded from a cardboard hide box to a plastic one! This way we can clean it as needed without having to make a new box every time she makes a mess. She is also doing great using the litter box consistently, so we've decided it's time for her to have some soft blankets to sleep on.

09/14/2022

As the days begin to grow shorter, the nights grow colder, and the trees drop their beautiful colors on the ground, it's time to remind ourselves that not every animal has access to a warm, dry home. Sometimes feral cats will crawl into your car engine compartments to find warmth and shelter from the wind and rain! Remember to knock on the hood of your vehicles for a minute before getting inside and driving off--it can save a life.

What else can we do to help out during the colder months? Feral cat shelters are so easy to make at home and all you need is just a few materials to start! Here's the instructions for the ones we like to make: https://alleycatadvocates.org/communitycat-care-center/creating-winter-shelters/

Another thing to remember is that food will be harder for the cats to find when all the critters hide in their nests from the cold and wind. It's never a bad idea to make sure to leave out some food and fresh water in a location safe from the elements but where the cats can still reach it. Making sure they stay fed will help them retain their much needed body fat which in turn will help them retain heat!

Use two 2x4s or other materials to raise it off the ground and place straw underneath. This makes it easier for the cats to warm the inside with their body heat.

09/13/2022

Carol is adjusting quickly to being indoors! We're learning a lot about her personality, like the fact that she doesn't like to be alone for long periods at a time, or that she prefers to sleep on top of her hiding box rather than inside it. She's also found her voice, and let's us know if she's tired of her food bowl being empty for too long or if she just wants attention.

There's a little more than a week left until her appointment, but until then she gets to get quite spoiled!

Carol officially has an appointment on Wednesday the 21st for an initial examination by Thomasville Veterinary Hospital. We will receive an estimate for her surgery at that time, as well as an idea of when they can get her scheduled for it.

Now all that we have to do is manage to trick her into going into the trap -- so far she has outsmarted us, but we're not giving up! This girl has been through so much and it's time for her to finally get some help.

If you'd like to donate to Carol's care, you can do so by calling TVH directly at (336) 475-9119, or by our Venmo . Stay tuned for more updates!

Good morning everyone! Today we have some very promising news to share about Carol.

As we mentioned before, we've spent a lot of time going back and forth speaking with different veterinary clinics trying to find one willing to perform surgery. Mostly trying to get some sort of written estimate to show to you all. Well we've finally found one! We've attached it to this post for you all to see if anyone is curious. She will be getting fully vetted while there at the hospital.

We've had a bunch of people donating to her care so far, and Thomasville Veterinary Clinic has been kind enough to accept direct donations into our account with them. If you'd like to donate to Carol's medical care, please call Thomasville Veterinary Clinic at (336) 475-9119, and mention Angel Wings Rescue and Carol. Alternatively you can donate to our Venmo . If donating isn't an option for you, you can always like our page to follow Carol's story and keep up to date on what's happening with her. Thanks for supporting!

This past week has been busy busy busy! We want to introduce everyone to the newest member of AWR: Carol.

Carol is an older kitty that has been being fed by a community in the Thomasville area for about 7 or 8 years. Unfortunately, she has a big problem: an umbilical hernia the size of a large baseball! This is quite uncomfortable (and dangerous) for her and will require surgical repair when she gets spayed. We've spent the week trying to get in touch with veterinary clinics in the area to see who has the availability to get her in to repair this ASAP. The main issue we are encountering is that all the clinics are extremely busy and surery appointments are booking a good month out! We're hoping to have something set up very soon but as you can imagine it's been a whole lot of back and forths this past week. Despite her medical concerns, Carol is a very sweet kitty that likes to be petted and loved on.

We'll make another post as soon as we have an update on Carol's situation. In the meantime, if you'd like to donate to her care you can send donations to us via Venmo , or you can check out our Amazon wishlist here: https://www.amazon.com/hz/wishlist/ls/ZQS8JKOLTHBJ?ref_=wl_share

IMPORTANT UPDATES!!

We are officially moved to the Thomasville area. We will continue to provide help throughout NC within reasonable travel distance. One thing we have realized is that the need is definitely NOT diminished just moving a few hours away. Homeless animals are everywhere, all you have to do is open your eyes! There are a few homeless cats in our immediate area (as in within our apartment neighborhood) that need help ASAP. The most urgent is an older momma kitty with a large umbilical hernia and a single little grey kitten, we'll make a post about her later with more details.

One person can't do this alone. But if everyone puts in a little effort each, we can make a huge impact on these lives. It has to start right here and right now. Our goal is to save them all--isn't that what every rescue dreams of?--but we have to start somewhere and this is where it begins.

We've updated our Amazon wishlist, you can find it here: https://www.amazon.com/hz/wishlist/ls/ZQS8JKOLTHBJ?ref_=wl_share

Urgent items we need are shelters for the homeless kitties out here, and food. We never have enough food and the more food we have, the more kitties we can assist in the area. If you have the time to send us something on our wishlist, anything is always appreciated. If you'd prefer to make a monetary donation please send via PayPal .

As always, thanks for following us, and thanks for your patience while we sort out the kinks in this whole rescue situation--it's certainly been challenging running with just myself and my sister so far!

We have some important information about the rescue, so listen up!

Our family has went through a life change and we had to move a couple of hours away. This has definitely made rescue work difficult on us currently. We DO want to continue educating the public on proper TNVR programs and assisting in any way we can, however we are very limited right now with what we can do.

Ceres and Glade have each been moved to different fosters and we will receive regular updates on each of them. We'll still make posts with the updates we get, but as far as anyone interested in adopting them, we'll direct you to their foster accordingly. This was the best option for them to reduce the stress of an extended drive in a hot car and just for the fact that we really don't have any current foster space in our current situation. They are both doing well and adjusting to life in their new homes! Oh and Ceres' pregnancy was apparently a false pregnancy so she was able to get spayed and vaccinated and can now start to live her very best life!

We thank you for your continued support and we hope you'll continue to follow us as we work towards making the world a better place for fur babies, in whatever way we are able to. 😻🧶🐈

I get asked this question a lot: "Why don't you socialize all the feral cats in your colony? They all seem friendly enough!"

Well the thing is, these cats are seceral years old each and they have been living outdoors simce day one. It's a great life for them and they are happy! They're healthy, we make sure they have plenty of food to eat and fresh water to drink, and frankly, they have no desire to come indoors to stay. A couple of them do like to come hang out with my own cat Enara from time to time and get a little cuddle time with me but they want to go right back outside within an hour. They're happy outside, they're safe, and they would just be too stressed if we forced them to stay inside and be "house cats."

Glade was brought indoors.due to health concerns because her fur was matted and she was severely underweight. All of the other cats in the colony are happy and healthy, and we even have them on regular fleas and tick treatments so they don't have to be uncomfortable and itchy! So that's why we allow the rest to stay put.

On a side note, feral cat colonies, when taken care of properly, can help reduce the pest population in your area! We used to have a horrible mouse infestation in my neighborhood when I was younger, but now that there's a colony of cats here, we don't see that anymore.

06/19/2022

Glade is still looking for her furever home! She is such a loyal kitty and once she gets to know you she wants to be around you all the time. Her foster is unable to keep her any longer due to a personal living situation that popped up, so time is of the essence! We need someone to adopt (or foster) her before she has to be taken to the shelter. Is there anyone who wants to help?!

🐾FOSTER NEEDED!🐾🐾FOSTER NEEDED!🐾

Ceres needs a foster to take her in urgently! As the due date creeps closer and closer, it's become apparent that we need someone who is able to be home with her most of the day so she'll have someone available to provide any needed assistance during the birth. We estimate that she has between 20 and 30 days left before it's baby time. We're trying to find someone who possibly works from home or is home at least 50% of the day. She needs to have a quiet space away from other pets and loud noises to minimize stress.

If you're interested in fostering Ceres please message us! The quicker we get her settled in somewhere, the better.

Glade is ready to find her purrfect furever home!

She has progressed so so quickly with us, and now she is to a point where she has learned all that she possibly can from us and she's ready for the next adventure. Poor girl has been through who knows what out there as a feral cat for all her life. She's had babies, grandbabies, great grandbabies, and more babies before we found her. She was so, so scared when we first found her but once she realized we were helping it was like watching a beautiful flower blossom for the first time 🌹

Glade needs a home that has no children and no other cats or dogs. She has kept her skittish personality from living outdoors for so long (who can blame her). She will open up quickly to someone who is patient with her and doesn't make her feel rushed to show affection! Once she decides you're her person, she will want to be near you 24/7 (trust me I know very well!). Someone who works from home is a plus but not required. She really is so so sweet and loving and I am so happy to have been a part of her recovery journey ❤️

ℹ️ If you're interested in adopting Glade, please send us a message with any questions you might have and a good email address for us to send the adoption application to!

Good evening friends! It's time for me to introduce you all to our newest addition!

This is Ceres (prounounced see-reez). Ceres is about 10 years old, and pregnant! Yes that is correct, she's a pregnant old lady. She's going to have a tough time with this pregnancy, but he chances are far better in the comfort of our home rather than on the streets. How did we get her, you ask?

I was contacted on Friday evening about a pregnant cat that had found her way onto someone's porch and was super duper sweet but this person had no means to care for an additional cat, let alone little ones soon to follow! I was on vacation at the time but we were lucky that a friend was able to pick he up the very next day and hold on to her for me until I returned. She is absolutely the sweetest mama I've ever met, and I'm rooting for her that she can out on some weight and be stress free enough to have a smooth delivery.

She was seen at the vet Tuesday morning, and we're estimating her to be about halfway through the pregnancy so far. She's gotten treatments for ear mites, fleas, and worms. Now all she has to do is sit back and relax!

Like our page to follow Ceres' story and we'll tell you when babies arrive ❤️

Who doesn't love a good success story? Here's a cute one for you:

On April 12th 2021, the feral kitty we now call Mama Mavis gave birth to six beautiful kittens in our spare bedroom. Safe, warm, and dry, she raised her babies in the comfort of our home. Erza was one of those kittens.

Erza was one of the smallest kittens in the litter and for a little while we were unsure whether she would be a survivor. As a baby, Erza loved to lay on her back a lot, including when she was nursing. For anyone unfamiliar with neonates, it's dangerous for them to nurse on their back because it greatly increases their chances of aspiration, which means the milk goes down their windpipe instead of their esophagus and it's fatal for little babies.

Erza pulled through and was adopted out when she was about four months old, with another of our foster kittens from a separate litter. They were both returned to us a couple months later due to the high energy of the other kitten. It broke my heart to have her returned because she's the best cuddling companion anyone could ask for, but looking back now I realize she had to be returned so she could go to the best cat mom possible!

Erza is loving life in her furever home and she absolutely adores her new brother 😻

How'd you come to find your fur kids? We love to hear everyone's stories ❤️
