We are a private, non-profit humane society serving the Thomasville community and Southwest Georgia as a "limited admission" shelter, focusing on animals in need of owner surrender. We adopt animals, provide medical care for newly adopted pets, and provide low cost sterilization services with the "Wellness Waggin," our mobile veterinary bus. Like all humane societies and SPCAs, we are independent

and are not affiliated with, nor do we receive regular funding from, any national animal welfare organizations or advocacy groups. Your interest in the welfare of the lost, homeless, abused, and abandoned pets in our community is greatly appreciated and vital to our continued success. Only financial support received locally will ensure our future and allow us to continue to care for the 4,000 animals per year that come through our doors. Your continued support means the world to us! We work hard to be the area’s leading advocate for animal welfare. Please help us continue to help them with your financial support!

Blessings upon blessings! 🙏❤️

We'd like to give a HUGE shout-out to both the Singletary Family and the Nichols Family for their very generous donations towards our Community Pet Food Pantry! Thank you so much for this incredible restock of food for our community pets.

We have seen an uptick in use of our Community Pet Food Pantry lately, telling us that many local pet owners are desperately in need of help as we head into this holiday season. Already this year, we've supplied more than 7,000lbs of adult dog and cat food, kitten food, and puppy food, ensuring no pet goes hungry. Access to our pantry also prevents pets coming into our shelter due to high cost of care, keeping pets with the people who love them most. This valuable resource is only made possible because of YOU, our generous supporters.

As the season of gift giving begins, consider spreading a little love to the pets in our community that need it most. Just one bag a food can make all the difference to a pet in need!

We accept donations any time between the hours of 9am and 6pm, or items may be shipped to us at 180 Big Star Dr. Thomasville, GA 31757.

THANK YOU for your support!

Need a Turkey Tester? We've Got You Covered! 🦃

This Thanksgiving, why not add a little extra joy (and fur) to your holiday? We have plenty of pets who would LOVE to join your family for the feast! In addition to expert turkey testing, a foster pet is great for:

🍽 Cleaning up any accidental crumbs and spills
💦 Pre-rinsing your dishes before you load them into the dishwasher
🥦 Taking care of those side dishes you’re not too fond of (Grandma never has to know)
🤗 Offering emotional support during those heated family debates
📸 & Bringing some furry flair to family photos!

Pick up your Turkey Tester anytime between now and Wednesday and return them after the holiday. We'll provide everything you need to make your foster baby feel right at home!

Give the gift of HOME to a shelter pet this Thanksgiving, and make your holiday and theirs a little brighter. 🧡

Does anyone recognize this adorable pup?

This young girl was abandoned here at some point yesterday in a small crate near our dumpster. She is sweet as can be and appears to be in good health, so we want to be 100% sure that no one is missing this little girl.

It's possible someone found this pup and brought her here hoping we could reunite her with her family. However, we recognize that more likely than not, she was brought here by her owner who could no longer care for her. In either scenario, we know that the person who did this, did so knowing that we could and would help, and that they likely felt that this was their only option.

That said, this is not the way. Please do not just leave them here, especially not in plain sight. Talk to us. Give us the opportunity to offer you assistance. We have a variety of resources available to help you keep your pet. Or, if surrendering that pet to us IS the best option, any history you can provide (signs of illness, vaccine status, previous home environment, etc.) will ensure that we give the animal the best care possible and find it a loving forever home when it's time.

Please, if you are in a position where you can no longer care for an animal, the best first step is starting a conversation with us.

Luckily, we found this girl before it got cold and dark. She is getting the care she needs thanks to your support and our amazing staff. Assuming she is not claimed, she will placed up for adoption in the coming days and will find another family to love her.

This sweet baby's second chance is made possible only through your generous support. If you are able to help cover the cost of vaccines, medication, surgery and care for this young pup, please consider donating on our website at thomasvillehumane.org/donate

Thank you ❤

Marty has found his forever home 🏡❤️

And what a journey it has been! Marty first arrived to Thomasville Humane back in May 2023 after he was rescued from a hoarding case. Marty lived in horrible conditions with more than 120 other animals, and understandably was a shut down, scared, shy pup. Each day, he opened up more and more, showing us what an amazing, sweet, smart boy he is and he quickly became a favorite amongst our staff.

Now, after more than 500 days in the shelter, Marty has found his forever person (and may or may not have landed a job as the Thomas University Baseball Team's Unofficial Mascot😉)

We are SO happy for him and extremely grateful to Marty's awesome adopter and our team of dedicated staff, volunteers, donors, and other supporters who made Marty's second chance possible. Thank you ❤️

We have so many loving, wonderful pets in care waiting for a second chance at a happy life. So what are you waiting for? Come adopt your new best friend!

We were so proud to participate in last week's event, Honoring Service: A Thomas County Veterans Forum, in partnership with The Thomas County Veterans Support & Resiliency Network and Thomas University!

Our very own Operations Director and US Army Veteran, Ms. Lauren Warburton, was one of the panelists at this event, speaking about her experiences in the military and her transition to civilian life, and the value of the human-animal bond. This event allowed community members to enhance their understanding of how they can best support Veterans in their return home and also put a spotlight on the Veteran services in our community.

Thank you to all that were involved in making this event such a tremendous success. We owe a special thank you to Ms. Heather Stephens of the Department of Veterans affairs for all of her efforts and coordination!

Veteran and mental health services are near and dear to our hearts here at Thomasville Humane. The human-animal bond is truly extraordinary and we seek to provide opportunities to develop this bond through our Pets for Patriots program, Mental Health Minutes program, and volunteering. We are also proud to partner with K9s for Warriors, supplying shelter dogs to enter their Service Dog training program for Veterans in need.

If you have questions about our Veterans programs or how you can get involved, please reach out to us at [email protected]

We had another fantastic visit last week from the JCL Latin Club from Thomasville City Schools - Thomasville, GA ! 💫

Thank you to Mr. Burton and his crew of paw-some young volunteers who helped us cut out and laminate kennel cards, socialize with the kitties in the Cat Shack, and gave some much needed love to some of our adorable puppies! 👏

We hope to see you all again soon!

We just don’t have the heart to tell Bones that he’s not exactly lap-dog material… 😅

This big guy thinks he’s the perfect size for cuddling and loves to plop down on any available lap (shout-out to our Animal Care Technician, DJ, for always being a good sport)! Bones is one of our sweetest, most affectionate pups, and we can't believe he's been in our care now for more than 150 days!

Bones is a star in playgroups, enjoys meeting new people, and his snuggles are indeed top-notch! His $100 adoption fee includes his sterilization, microchip, and essential vaccines.

If you’re looking for a gentle giant with a heart of gold, come meet Bones! He’s ready to bring all the love into your life and your lap.❤️

Meet Teddy, aka the King of Floof! 👑

This big-hearted Great Pyrenees came to us in early October as an emergency hurricane transport from North Georgia, and he’s been charming us ever since.🥰

Teddy has been through a lot of change over the last few weeks and it's been tough on him. We think Teddy once had a home of his own, perhaps looking after livestock or living on a farm, before he was picked up by animal control. Shortly after, the shelter he was staying in was nearly destroyed by Hurricane Helene and he made the several hour long journey here to us. Upon his arrival, Teddy was placed in a loving foster home to give him a soft landing and to help us learn more about his sweet, loving disposition, and now he’s ready for his forever family! 🏡💙

Teddy is looking for a patient, understanding home that knows the ins and outs of his breed and can give him time to settle in. Despite his rough start, Teddy greets everyone with a wagging tail and a warm smile! He's a very sweet boy and we cannot wait until his perfect family comes along.

Come meet him and see if he’s your perfect match or visit our website any time at thomasvillehumane.org/adopt to find your new best friend! 🐾

In light of Veterans Day, we would like to give a very special shout-out to K9s For Warriors !

K9s for Warriors visited our organization again last week looking for dogs that have the potential to act as a Service Dog to a Veteran in need. In order to be eligible, these dogs must meet certain height, age, and health requirements, and pass several temperament tests.

We are thrilled to announce both Gus and Nyx passed all of their tests were selected to enter into Service Dog training for a Veteran in need! ❤️💙 Thank you, K9s for Warriors, for giving these special pups a second chance to live an amazing life as a working dog!

K9s for Warriors is the largest provider of service dogs for Veterans in the nation. To learn more about their incredible mission, visit their website at k9sforwarriors.org.

🌟 Food Donations Needed 🌟

Did you know that Thomasville Humane has given out more than 7,000 pounds of pet food so far this year?!😲 All of that is only made possible because of YOU, our generous donors.

We have no preference of brand or bag size! Drop off any time between 9am and 6pm. If we are not open yet, they can be placed by the front door and we will bring them inside.

Food may be shipped to us at 180 Big Star Dr. Thomasville, GA 31757 or ordered directly from our Amazon Wishlist at https://a.co/i7dzKPv

Thank you for helping us feed the pets in need in our community! ❤️

Thank you, Latin Club! 👏

Last Friday, Mr. Gammel and his crew of trusty volunteers from Thomas County Central and Thomasville City Schools, came to help us portion food for our pet food pantry, socialize young kittens, make cat toys, and supervise a playgroup! Our dogs Peach, Bones, Ember, and Nutmeg had a blast, too.

This paw-some groups comes to visit us once a month and to see them is always a treat!

🚨 Happy Tails Alert! 🚨

We're thrilled to feature our former resident, Autumn, in this week's Happy Tails post!

Miss Autumn was adopted back in August, after waiting for a furever home for more than 120 days. When Autumn was in our care, we'd hoped she would go to a family with young kids (her favorite) and lots of space to run around and play with her ball (her other favorite)!

We're happy to report that Autumn found herself just that, and more! Not only does she have a human brother and sister who love her endlessly, but Autumn spends her days playing outside with all the neighborhood children. She gets all the ball throws and tummy rubs she could ever want, and we are so happy to see her so happy! ❤️

Our Story

TTCHS is open-admission shelter and contracted with local government to provide animal control services to Thomas County and the 7 municipalities therein. The present facility has been located at 180 Big Star Drive for more than 20 years and can now shelter over 300 animals at a time. Like all humane societies and SPCAs we are independent and are not affiliated with, nor do we receive regular funding from, any national animal welfare organizations or advocacy groups. The aforementioned animal control contract provides about 40% of our yearly income. Memberships, donations, grants, and fundraising efforts, therefore, make up the majority of our annual revenue. Your interest in the welfare of the lost, homeless, abused, and abandoned pets in the community is greatly appreciated and vital to continued success. Only financial support received locally will ensure the future and allow them to continue to care for the 4,000 animals per year that come through the doors. Your continued support means that the ones that do not have to be euthanized for reasons of health or public safety have a chance to find a good, loving home. The shelter works hard to be the area’s leading advocate for animal welfare. Please help them continue to help them with your financial support!
