HUGE thanks to Ben for helping us out today with one of the biggies!!!! " Hammie" is a 300 + pounder and one of the largest pigs we see. He's got a good set of lungs on him so I don't recommend listening at full volume ! Also, Ben gets peed on so there's that. 😆 Ahh the realities of hoof trimming.....

Folks, it's already too hot too soon 🔥 Please understand that if you have an outdoor pig that's on our trimming schedule and it's 90 degrees with humidity on top of it, you will be rescheduled. It's completely unsafe for your pig to be stressed during this type of heat and it's completely unhealthy for us to work out in it. If you do not have air conditioning in your home, your appointment may also be rescheduled due to heat and humidity. This is pretty much non negotiable. Thank you for your understanding!!!!!!

This is a courtesy post for a client of ours. Located in Attleboro Massachusetts...

At no fault of her own " Snuggles" is seeking a new home. Her parents are being forced to seek new rental housing as their landlord of many years has passed away and their home has sold. Unfortunately the new owners have decided to tear down the current building which is an apartment home, and build a single family home in its place. All tenants need to be out this summer.

They have had absolutely no luck finding another rental that will allow a pet mini pig even if they transition her outdoors.

Snuggles is a 5 year old intact female. She is VERY sweet and docile. ❤️ Her parents have done an acceptional job getting weight off of her this past year. She's lost close to 30lbs!!! She still needs to loose another 25lbs or so to be an ideal weight.

Please contact her Mom Kara if you are interested in meeting her!!! 508 - 369- 1881

I can vouch that this piggie is a very sweet pig and would make a great piggie pet either indoor or transitioned to outdoor living. Please share!!!!! 🐷

After 2 months of introductions through the fence, it's herd integration day for our 4 piggies. Merging several pigs into a collective herd can be a bit stressful for us. I'm my observations, the pigs speak each other's language so they pretty much know what to do instinctually. Humans generally do not need to intervene and in fact it could potentially complicate and extend the " jumping in" process as I call it. When introducing pigs I myself stay in the pen to observe the initial introduction process. I carry a broom only as a barrier to myself and a separation tool incase someone gets cornered or an ear is grabbed. The vast majority of injuries sustained during herd introductions are quite superficial. Scrapes , cuts and bruises. Having spayed and neutered pigs also takes the hormonal aspect out of establishing a herd hierarchy as well. One important thing to keep in mind is to make sure you introduce pigs DURING THE WEEK when a veterinarian can be handy incase an injury needs to be looked at. Don't do this on a weekend or holiday when veterinary care isn't as easily accessible.

As for my herd it looks as if Kurt will maintain his Top Hog position! Peach is second in line, Souee is 3rd in line and Kash is low man on the totem pole despite him being the largest. In Pig life, the assertive attitude always wins regardless of size.

Some Uneducated purchasers of mini pigs expect adorable piggies that are essentially dogs in a pig costume... and that's the furthest thing from the truth..
Expectation: adorable unique piggie house pet that we can take places in the car and have lots of fun with!

Reality: 200lb full grown exotic pet that will most likely destroy your home if kept indoors for extended period of time, prone to behavioral issues if you don't know how to assert yourself as an alpha energy, expensive to treat medically, expensive to care for hoof trimming wise, difficult to transport if need be for medical needs or relocation needs, going on vacation??? Good luck finding a competent pig sitter...

Pet pigs can live until their 20s...... don't be a do**he and take this commitment lightly.... I'm tired of people trying to rehome their pigs. I'm sad and tired.... unless you have 20 years to commit to them, just don't get one.

Ouuuuuu! Pudge of Salem NH is unique! He's rocking a cool double bottom tusk! 😎 We had to take special care trimming it because once we wiped the gunk off he did have gum tissue present in the middle of the two tusks. We were able to take an inch or so off so he wouldn't get hung up on fencing or anything else. He was such a nice boy !

We get several calls a year from the public and from clients looking to give their pigs up. As a farrier service, we are not a sanctuary and do not take pigs in. I have people ask me if I know of anyone who would take/ want their pig and my answer is honestly always the same and it's " no." One of the main reasons is that the adult pig adoption " market" is completely OVERLY SATURATED with soon to be homeless pigs needing good and CAPABLE homes. Pigs are not easy pets to have. If you do not own your home, just don't get a pig. If you don't have 2k to spay or neuter , please don't get a pig. If you have small children that could potentially be hurt by a pig, please don't get one. If you think a pig can live in a second floor apartment with no outdoor access, don't get one. If you don't have a plan on how to transport a 200lb pig to the vet in an emergency situation, PLEASE don't get one.

Pigs are difficult animals to keep. They are destructive, often pushy, expensive pets to PROPERLY take care of.

They of course can be awesome critters to have in the proper situation with owners that have REALISTIC expectations .

And for the Love of God PLEASE stop breeding and selling baby pigs. The shelters and responsible owners can't take anymore of your pigs in!

We have had 9 requests for intakes this week because people are moving and their new homes do not allow pigs. People please please please take your piggies with you! You wouldn’t leave your children behind would you?! These sweet babies are as smart as a 3-4 year old toddler and go through major depression when dumped or not rehomed properly. When relocating please find places that allow your animals. We had to turn all these babies away as NONE of them were spayed or neutered. We do not have the funds to take in every animal that is not spayed or neutered unfortunately. Colorado is one of the highest in vet bills and this includes spays and neuters. It amazing us the amount of phone calls we get to take in pigs because they don’t want to deal with simple routine vet expenses. Such as hoof trims. Yes someone wanted to rehome because they didn’t want to pay to have their pigs hooves trimmed. If you cannot do this for the health of your pet please do not get a pet! Unfortunately we cannot take everyone’s pig in because they got to big, didnt know the HOA was going to throw a fit, the dogs don’t like the pig (which dogs and pigs should never be together), or you just lost interest. The average spay and neuter, exam, anesthesia, meds and hospitalization if needed is anywhere from $450-$2400. You do the math when we were asked to take in 9 unaltered pigs this week. We rescues and sanctuaries are not funded like this and a ton of expenses come out of our very own pockets. People do not realize we don’t have vets on site that do all of this for free. We wish we could we really do. Now I will point out that we make sure that when we rehome babies from here they go home either spayed or neutered. We go through background checks, neighborhood and city checks, references, and home visits to make sure that not only is it safe for the pigs but to educate the adopter and make sure they are 100% ready for this experience. Please do not get an animal especially a pig if you can’t make a commitment for life. We are here to help educate you and help you find the perfect piggy. But please do your research and make sure these babies will always be with you. Spay and neuter your pigs as they are much better and healthier pets when this is done.

Hello Friends! As the summer months are upon us this is just a friendly reminder to Please, PLEASE have your air conditioning on during your piggies hoof trim if it's hot and humid ❤️ For outdoor barn pigs, if it's too hot and humid appointments may be postponed if the heat index is too high to safely work on your pigs/goats. If the weather isn't too hot, ventilation in your barn is still very important and fans are SOOOOO appreciated!!!!!

As alot of you know, me and the heat are mortal enemies!!!! 😆

It's always a pleasure and privilege to have our good friend Ben/assistant helping us out with the larger big guys ❤️ One of our trims today included a piggie named" Chris P" who is a a very tall , very long pig. It's advantageous to have Ben flip him as Ben is 6 foot 2 and has very long legs compared to Dan. Because of this, his long legs help stabilize " Chris" almost like a surgical V- Tray :) " Chris P" is an agile, large pig that is a trasher during trimming. Never ever tries to bite, but is a bit of an effort to keep dorsally during a trim. Ben always does a fantastic job with " Chris" and his awesome wife Chrissy takes the best videos and pictures when she joins us in our travels!!!! We are so lucky to have them as part of our team!
