Our sweet delivery man's truck broke down in our walkway, so our team jumped in to get it moved!
Do you know what to do if you find a lost pet? Are your pets microchiped?
Meet Finn! With his mom's permission, we'd like to share Finn’s story to help spread awareness about the importance of microchipping pets.
One night tis week, this sweet boy was found by a family who knew that someone must be missing him! They immediately brought him to ACE in the morning to have him scanned for a microchip, and luckily enough, we found one! A quick check with the national microchip registry revealed his name: Finn. To everyone’s surprise, Finn had traveled all the way from New York—nearly 7 hours away.
Thanks to the up-to-date information associated with his microchip, we were able to contact Finn’s family. Without hesitation, his mom started planning the long journey to pick him up - he had a whole family at home waiting for him. We had the pleasure of caring for Finn for a few days until his family arrived, and we were overjoyed to see them reunited!
Sadly, this happy ending isn’t something we see often. Many times, pets are microchipped but the chip is never registered, or the contact information is outdated. In cases like these, reuniting pets with their owners becomes nearly impossible. Finn’s story shows how vital it is to not only microchip your pet but also to ensure the information remains current.
We’d also like to spread awareness that in most states, it is legally required to report a found animal. Additionally, many states have a 7-10 day holding period for lost pets, during which the animal must be advertised as found. This gives the rightful owner time to locate their pet before they become eligible for adoption. Not only can this help return an animal home, it can help prevent heartbreak on both sides.
We’re sharing Finn’s story not to cause worry, but to highlight the importance for pet owners to keep their pet’s microchip information up to date.
Safe travels to Finn and his grandparents as they head back home and reunite with the
