Facial trauma either by a kick or running into an object is extremely common in horses and often leads to facial fractures as most of the skull is covered by thin bones that act as the roof of the paranasal sinuses. At TEH, we are able to treat these complicated injuries surgically and restore cosmesis.

Scapular fractures can be hard to identify due to the muscle mass covering the area and the difficulty to see them clearly on x-rays. At TEH, we use a combination of x-rays and ultrasound imaging to diagnose these fractures.

The point of the hock is an area extremely susceptible to lacerations and punctures. Unfortunately, the superficial digital flexor tendon (SDFT) with its bursa, the subcutaneous bursa and the calcaneal bone are at that level and frequently damaged during trauma requiring advanced surgical management.
