Kids and Canines’ mission is to serve disadvantaged youth through the use of a dog.

These children have been identified as having special needs or are part of the juvenile corrections system. We use trained dogs to help children achieve academically, socially, and in their pursuit

of employment. The magic of the dog and child connection breaks down barriers, provides support, and creates an environment that allows teens to learn important life skills through firsthand experiences.

Meet Buddy: Your New Little Friend with a Big Heart

Age: 7 years old
Breed: Havanese

A Little Backstory on Me:
I may be the smallest in the pack, but I’ve always had a big heart and a knack for being in charge. From curling up on laps to helping kids learn new tricks, I’ve found my place as a beloved member of the Kids and Canines team.

A Perfect Day for Me Looks Like:
Starting with some lap time—there’s no place I’d rather be than curled up close to someone I love. After that, I’d spend some time keeping the other pups in check (I may be small, but I’m definitely the boss around here). Add in a little trick training, giving some therapeutic support to kids who need it most, some silly antics, and a whole lot of love, and my day is complete!

I Get Along Best Witj:
Patient and gentle people who understand that I need a little time to warm up. Once you’ve earned my trust (and given me a belly rub!), I’ll be your most loyal and loving friend.

My Biggest Talent Is:
Being the tiniest but mightiest pup in the pack—I’m the boss, but also the biggest softie at heart.

If I Were a Human, I’d Be:
A charming but mischievous leader who’s always ready to make you laugh, be there whenever you might need me, and brighten your day.

And thanks to these incredible volunteers and staff, we were able to raise enough funds to provide for program dogs care for 6 months. Making our mission possible - transforming a child’s life, all through the love of a dog.

As Shaggy’s big brother, I came into the Kids and Canines world ready to help him learn and grow, and of course follow in my pawsteps. From day one, I’ve been an eager learner and a faithful friend, always by someone’s side and ready to tackle my training with enthusiasm.

A Perfect Day to Me Looks Like:
Sticking close to my favorite person (you’ll never catch me far from their side), running and playing with my brother Shaggy, and practicing my training skills to show just how smart I am. I love staying busy, learning new things, and pouring all my energy into being the best buddy you could ever ask for. At the end of the day, I’m all about cuddles and companionship—you’ll always have my full attention and my whole heart.

A Little Backstory on Me:
I’ve been a proud member of the Kids and Canines team since the beginning, making me the longest-serving pup in the program. From the launch of the "Reading with Patriot" program to countless belly rubs and walks with my favorite kids, my journey has been nothing short of legendary.

A Perfect Day for Me Looks Like:
Starting the morning with a trip to school to meet my favorite kids for some storytime, I may fall asleep but don’t worry I’m focused, I just dream about the stories the kids read to me. Then I work hard to learn and show off tricks, I work to get as many treats as the kids are willing to share with me. Afterward, I’d enjoy a long walk outside, stopping to chase a duck or two before heading home to relax with a pile of tennis balls. As a certified belly rub enthusiast, I’ll insist on 24/7 pets from anyone nearby—don’t worry, I make it worth your while with endless friendship and golden smiles.

I Get Along Best With:
Kids, adults, other dogs, and basically anyone who will give me attention. I don’t believe in strangers—only friends I haven’t met yet!

My Biggest Talent Is:
Being the ultimate fan favorite. Whether it’s winning hearts in the classroom or dazzling with my joyful spirit, I’m a true star.

If I Were a Human, I’d Be:
A beloved local celebrity who knows everyone by name and makes everyone feel special.

Meet Logan: Your Goofy, Lovable Buddy

A Little Backstory on Me:
I’m the kind of dog who’s always been about spreading love and a little laughter. I joined Kids and Canines a few years ago, bringing my goofy personality and love for kids along with me. Whether I’m showing off my “paw” trick or stealing the best car seat, I’m here to make everyone smile.

A Perfect Day for Me Looks Like:
Cruising around town on a car ride (dibs on the best seat!) and hanging out with my favorite kids—especially the ones with treats in their pockets. I’m all about the simple joys in life: giving high-fives with my signature paw trick, being showered with belly rubs, and bringing laughs with my goofy, loveable personality.

I Get Along Best With:
Kids who spoil me with snacks and anyone who doesn’t mind sharing the car seat. I’m a big guy with an even bigger heart!

Meet Captain: Our Always Smiling Superstar

Age: 7 years old

A Little Backstory on Me:
I came from Moss Creek Goldendoodles, where my journey began as one of their “Moss Creeks Dads” to many litters of puppies. I was known for being a gentle giant with so much love to give. Over the years, I’ve made countless friends, always showing up with a smile. Being part of this program has been my life’s work, and I couldn’t be prouder.

A Perfect Day for Me Looks Like:
Starting the morning with some tail-wagging smiles and story time with my favorite kiddos, showing off my tried and true tricks but I prefer the reward of pets and bonding with my new buddies over treats any day, followed by a nap curled up on the comfiest couch I can find (sorry, no room for you—I'm a couch hog!). Some playtime with my trusty plushy toys and a run around the backyard, and it’s a day well spent.

A Perfect Day for Me Looks Like: Sleeping in (of course), heading off to school to hear kids read aloud stories and practice my training, chasing a tennis ball in the backyard, rolling around and digging in the grass, and finishing the day with a long, lazy cuddle session. Hard work deserves some serious R&R, right?

I Get Along Best With: My brother Scooby—he’s my best friend and partner in crime. Together, we’re unstoppable (well, unless it’s nap time).

My Biggest Talent Is: Keeping my balance when I sit. It’s all about poise and posture, and I sometimes lean back a little too far.

Every week we partner our lovable program pups with enthusiastic teens for our ADAPT training program. These dogs don’t just learn tricks; they learn how to spread joy, offer support, and provide companionship in schools. 🏫💕 And we’ve got something special to share with you! Here’s a snapshot of the tricks our dogs have been learning at Armwood High School, thanks to their dedicated teen trainers.
