A Little Backstory on Me:
My story with Kids and Canines started when I was just a pup, learning the ropes and finding my place in this amazing program. Over the years, I’ve grown into a calm and dependable friend, always ready with my squeaky toy and my big heart.

A Perfect Day for Me Looks Like:
Starting with a lowkey morning walk to stretch my legs and enjoy some fresh air, followed by getting all groomed up—I love feeling my best and looking handsome! Then it’s off to school with my mom, Anita, to help kids build their confidence with reading. After a productive day, I’d wind down with belly rubs, my favorite squeaky toy, and maybe sneak in a few kisses for my favorite people.

I Get Along Best With:
Gentle, kind-hearted friends who know how to appreciate my calm and refined style.

My Biggest Talent is:
Making kids feel relaxed and supported during story time—I’ve been perfecting this talent since I was a puppy! I’m happy to be there and know they could always use a friend.

If I Were a Human, I’d Be:
The quiet, dapper gentleman who’s always polite, well-dressed, and ready to lend a listening ear.

Likes:
•Belly rubs, especially on my side—it’s my sweet spot.
•Squeaky toys—they’re my absolute favorite!
•Feeling fresh and groomed—it’s all about looking sharp.
•Relaxed walks where I can take my time and enjoy the scenery.
•Spending time with kids during story time—it’s my happy place.

Meet Finn: Our Gentle Giant with a Goofy Side

Age: 5 years old
Breed: Bernedoodle

A Little Backstory on Me:
I volunteer alongside my mom, Colleen, bringing joy and laughter to everyone I meet. From therapy training to my trading cards, my journey has been full of fun, friends, and all my favorite bandanas and doggie outfits. Every day is an adventure, and I wouldn’t have it any other way.

A Perfect Day For Me Looks Like:
Starting my morning by heading to school with my mom, Colleen, where I get to pick out the perfect bandana for the day. Then, it’s off to the classroom to hang out with my favorite readers—I love sitting with them while they practice their stories, and all the pets and attention they give me in the process. After a great day at school, I’d unwind with a swim, a trip to the dog park to make new friends, and maybe even a cheeseburger as a treat. I’d end the day with cuddles, lots of laughs, and being my goofy, lovable self.

I Get Along Best With:
Kids who want a patient listener, friends who love to laugh at my goofy side, and anyone who’s ready to share a cheeseburger or two.

My Biggest Talent Is:
Making everyone feel special—whether it’s through my calm presence, my gentle hugs, or just being there when you need a buddy.

If I Were a Human, I’d Be:
The kind-hearted, goofy guy who’s friends with everyone and loves to make people smile.

Likes:
•Swimming—I could paddle all day!
•Cheeseburgers—my ultimate treat.

Not only am I a therapy dog, but I’m also famous in the classroom—I’ve got my own trading cards, and the kids love collecting them. Being part of their reading journey is the best job in the world!

Meet Junebug: Our Spirited, Independent Learner

Age: 5 years old
Breed: Husky

A Little Backstory on Me:
Rescued from a shelter and trained by the best, I’ve come a long way since joining Kids and Canines. Learning new tricks and helping teens has been my favorite adventure yet, and I love showing off my smarts while keeping my playful, independent spirit alive.

A Perfect Day for Me Looks Like:
Starting with a good morning howl (gotta let you know I’m ready for action), followed by some training time with my favorite teens—they’re teaching me all sorts of cool new tricks! I love keeping busy, learning new things, and bouncing around with energy to spare. End the day with a few well-earned treats and a cozy spot to rest, and I’m one happy Husky.

I Get Along Best With:
Patient, understanding friends who appreciate my independent streak and know how to win me over with kindness (and treats—definitely treats).

My Biggest Talent Is:
Being the smartest (and chattiest) pup in the room—I’m always ready to share my thoughts and show off my skills!

If I Were a Human, I’d Be:
The strong, independent type who loves to learn, work hard, and stay active—but I’ll always make time for my closest friends.

I was rescued from the shelter and trained by some of the best dog trainers around, but these days, I’m learning new tricks from teens in our program—and loving every second of it. I may be independent, but I’ve got a big heart and a whole lot of love to give to the right people.

A Little Backstory on Me:
As the newest member of the Kids and Canines team (I was adopted in April, and that’s where my name comes from too!), I’ve been learning the ropes from my mentors, Ladybug and Junebug. My journey is just beginning, but with my sweet personality and love for kids, I’m already making a big impact.

A Perfect Day for Me Looks Like:
Waking up bright-eyed and wagging, ready to greet everyone with puppy kisses! I’d spend my morning practicing new tricks, followed by some quality time with the kids I adore. In the afternoon, I’d hang out with my mentors, Junebug and Ladybug—they always make time to play with me. Wrap it all up with a long walk to get my energy out, cuddles, and maybe a treat or two, and it’s the perfect day for this happy little social butterfly.

I Get Along Best With:
Everyone! I’ve never met a stranger—just future friends I can’t wait to meet and give them a tail-wagging hello.

My Biggest Talent Is:
Bringing joy and energy to everyone around me—I’m a natural at making people smile.

Meet Buddy: Your New Little Friend with a Big Heart

A Little Backstory on Me:
I may be the smallest in the pack, but I’ve always had a big heart and a knack for being in charge. From curling up on laps to helping kids learn new tricks, I’ve found my place as a beloved member of the Kids and Canines team.

A Perfect Day for Me Looks Like:
Starting with some lap time—there’s no place I’d rather be than curled up close to someone I love. After that, I’d spend some time keeping the other pups in check (I may be small, but I’m definitely the boss around here). Add in a little trick training, giving some therapeutic support to kids who need it most, some silly antics, and a whole lot of love, and my day is complete!

I Get Along Best Witj:
Patient and gentle people who understand that I need a little time to warm up. Once you’ve earned my trust (and given me a belly rub!), I’ll be your most loyal and loving friend.

My Biggest Talent Is:
Being the tiniest but mightiest pup in the pack—I’m the boss, but also the biggest softie at heart.

We ❤️ our volunteers!!! This Saturday we pirated up and Kids and Canines served in Gasparilla’s Charity Beer Garden! 🏴‍☠️ 🚢

And thanks to these incredible volunteers and staff, we were able to raise enough funds to provide for program dogs care for 6 months. Making our mission possible - transforming a child’s life, all through the love of a dog.

As Shaggy’s big brother, I came into the Kids and Canines world ready to help him learn and grow, and of course follow in my pawsteps. From day one, I’ve been an eager learner and a faithful friend, always by someone’s side and ready to tackle my training with enthusiasm.

A Perfect Day to Me Looks Like:
Sticking close to my favorite person (you’ll never catch me far from their side), running and playing with my brother Shaggy, and practicing my training skills to show just how smart I am. I love staying busy, learning new things, and pouring all my energy into being the best buddy you could ever ask for. At the end of the day, I’m all about cuddles and companionship—you’ll always have my full attention and my whole heart.

I’ve been a proud member of the Kids and Canines team since the beginning, making me the longest-serving pup in the program. From the launch of the "Reading with Patriot" program to countless belly rubs and walks with my favorite kids, my journey has been nothing short of legendary.

A Perfect Day for Me Looks Like:
Starting the morning with a trip to school to meet my favorite kids for some storytime, I may fall asleep but don’t worry I’m focused, I just dream about the stories the kids read to me. Then I work hard to learn and show off tricks, I work to get as many treats as the kids are willing to share with me. Afterward, I’d enjoy a long walk outside, stopping to chase a duck or two before heading home to relax with a pile of tennis balls. As a certified belly rub enthusiast, I’ll insist on 24/7 pets from anyone nearby—don’t worry, I make it worth your while with endless friendship and golden smiles.

I Get Along Best With:
Kids, adults, other dogs, and basically anyone who will give me attention. I don’t believe in strangers—only friends I haven’t met yet!

My Biggest Talent Is:
