It's that time of year again! September and October we offer discounts for our Board and Train programs and this year we are adding a twist!

Like last year we are offering an additional week for free with any of our Board and Train packages.

But we also are offering an alternative deal adding four additional lessons! This new option makes it so with any Board and Train you'd receive six lessons rather then the usually two after your dog wraps up their training with us!

Hey yall it's been a minute! We just passed up our one year anniversary for Lucky Paws! I just wanted to take a minute and thank everyone who's supported us this first year as I couldn't have done it without yall!

There are lots of changes coming to our boarding setups and some exciting stuff I have planned for the new year! Having multiple boarding rooms for the first time is just one of many perks that the triplet Goldens are getting to enjoy!

Also, Lil Dude should have his first meet and greet on Saturday! I am looking forward to finding his perfect family.

Hey Everyone,

I'd like to take a minute to talk about Lil Dude here. He is the first dog from Pflugerville Animal Shelter (PAWS) entering my new Volunteer Board and Train Program! Basically, I've partnered with PAWS to help dogs get adopted and Lil Dude will be the poster child and first to go through the program.

Over the next Two-Four weeks I'll be working on his confidence, obedience, house manners, and a lot of other fun stuff to help him find his forever home! In this program any dog I work with will go back to PAWS with full support on finding that right home for them. Lil Dude will go back with a ton of training videos and his adopter will receive a free follow-up lesson in their home! Also if available I will try to be around for any meet and greets with him to really hopefully help this man find his family.

All the dogs I will be working with in the future will need to be adopted directly through PAWS, however they will have a place on my website linking to all the info to adopt this beautiful boy! Be on the lookout for updates on his progress soon!

It's been a busy month! Social Media was sacrificed to focus on training all those dogs! Akira, Dutchess, Penny, and Xander are back at home with their families.

Meanwhile this beautiful boy dropped off last weekend for Behavior Modification! Everyone meet Coda! He's a very fearful big boy. Sometimes when he's scared he Barks, growls, and snarles so his main goal in training is building confidence and control around new people!

Coda is actually the first Behavioral case Lucky Paws has gotten since I reopened. Can't wait to show how far he's come and how far he'll go with training!

Four different dogs with four different sessions all covering the same material.

First up is Dutchess the Old English Bulldog! She's been with me since Sunday so she's well on her way to a great place-stay.

Followed up by the Pitty Twins Xander and Penny who just dropped off Thursday I was recording their introduction to place! They'd never been given the command before these clips.

Lastly, yall are familiar with Akira the superstar she's been with me almost three weeks now! She still makes mistakes but she's the youngest in the house and killing it with obedience!

Two birds, one stone! Akira loves my boys but needs to meet new dogs and go new places, and RIP needed a break in our training session.

Akira has been generalizing her obedience out in the real world now! This girl is killing it and boy is her cute face drawing in all the attention she could ever ask for.

I'm on a roll, two blogs in two days! But in all seriousness most my clients really need help with the perspective on the why's. Why is the dog doing this? Why isn't the dog learning? This post talks a little about the four quadrants of behavior and their applications. I tried to break things down to their most basic form and give a couple examples along the way!

Been a while, but I wanted to put a little something together to give insight on why dogs do what they do! There is a lot to talk about in the science of behavior and this barely scratches the surface. But with my clients before changing behavior we have to ask ourselves why they are doing it.

Every action has a reaction, therefore every behavior has a cause and effect. With dogs most the job is identifying the cause and effect!

We had our second lesson with RIP today. He's a smart guy! He's still under a year, but man is he taking to training! It isn't often in a single lesson a dog grasps distance and duration work so well!

He just started remote collar training today as well! He will be off leash in no time!

Last trip to the vet with Cami and Duckie went by like a breeze! Dogs don't have to be scared of the vet! Also, going out in public doesn't have to be a headache. The lobby was busy, but the girls always stay right by my side with obedience!

Hey everyone,

Lately a lot of perspective clients had been asking about Daycare Training and last week I tested out a day with one of my regular dogs. I am happy to say I have two new services I'm going to run as a trial for the next few weeks. If it goes smoothly it will become permanent.

Day Training and Daycare Training!

Day Training is where I go to your house during the week and work your dog for one hour. unlike lessons the sessions aren't me teaching the owner but rather me working your dog for you. Burning some energy, getting them out of the crate while you are at work, and after a few sessions you'd get a lesson to learn what your pups learned

Daycare Training is where either you drop off a dog to me or I pick it up for a fee and the dog spends the day with me! They get a few training sessions and maybe even some playtime with some of my dogs!

Sometimes in training, you have to be creative. You can't practice for every potential distraction. But what we can do is throw a bunch of distractions at a dog and communicate what we want and what we don't want!

Stitch and Brahms took a drive into town for some training today. Stopped into several places to post business cards and worked on some neutral obedience in high traffic area's!

I often times overlook the importance of "showing your work" as a trainer. No dog is perfect, and dogs / humans make mistakes in training. I often times try to just let the work speak for itself. But with Lucky Paws, I'm trying to change that. I'm going to remember to record the little things. I saved Stitch from San Antonio two months ago but really have been slacking on his training.

Plus, as an added bonus, Brahms is finally learning a trick. Taking him in public, he loves pets, but the boy needs to learn to show off more than his obedience.

If you didn't know its Bite Prevention Week and that's something near and dear to me as behavioral work is what got me into dog training in the first place and keeps me going five years into the industry. So starting today I wanted to go over some terms and categorization of aggression that we deal with here at Lucky Paws. Remember dog's hardly ever "bite out of nowhere" we just as humans don't always know / read the signs!
