This little budgie was an aviary death and had never been a pet. It was acquired by a friend of mine to use in her scientific collection.
As a reminder, I do not taxidermy pets. It's hard to capture their personality without me knowing the animal beforehand, not to mention if the mount doesn't turn out just perfect or is damaged even in the slightest bit, it may not look like the pet.
It was such a small bird, definitely the smallest bird I have ever worked on (see the photos of it next to my hand for reference). I had to skin it on an icepack using tweezers and a tiny scalpel since the heat of my hands could potentially damage the delicate skin and my fingers were too big to actually skin it without pulling out feathers or ripping the skin. It isn't perfect, but it's certainly a cute little one!
This will be the last bird I will be able to work on for awhile, as I am relocating to Minnesota this weekend. I will still be working on soft mounts though until I get my bird taxidermy shop up and running.
Thank you Colorado and all of my customers, family, and friends for all of the support you have given to me as I pursued my passion and started my own business. I look forward to what the future holds for my husband and I, and Wild Goose Chase Taxidermy Studio up in the North Star State!
