Last week we had some special guests visit our facility. The Gilman high school small animal class came out to learn about different breeds of hunting dogs, what there jobs are and how an animals mind set can work. Students had an opportunity to see young puppies getting a start and quality dogs work in the field after training is completed. Learned about homing pigeons and the benefits they provide. Also spent some time with are horses and spoke about how horses and dogs are very similar when it comes to working with humans. Thanks Chance Rosemeyer for bring them out.

Over the years we’ve been very fortunate to have customers on board with our program. Meet “Billy” she is an 7 week old English Pointer. Billy is booked in for our first year puppy development and will be raised by us as if she was our own. Thank you Jeff and Melonie Ramey for doing a great job on the early imprint  whelping stages.

Bird hunting season is almost here! Before heading out on that first expedition, there are some simple training skills you can polish up on with your dog that will have a positive impact on your hunt.

⭐️𝐆𝐨𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐖𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐘𝐨𝐮 is a skill applied during a loose lead or off-lead heel, as well as while working with you in the field. Practicing a joined up heel and changing directions at a distance pays big dividends in the field by getting your dog to think about where you are and about hunting with you.

⭐️𝐂𝐨𝐦𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐨 𝐘𝐨𝐮 is not just a good recall…it is also the foundation for a good retrieve! Practice recalls with your dog and work to ensure a heightened drive for retrieving bumpers or dummies to you before your hunts.

⭐️𝐒𝐭𝐚𝐧𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐒𝐭𝐢𝐥𝐥 is a critical element for staunch points, backing situations, when putting on hunting gear, and even during vet exams. It’s imperative to be able to effectively cue your pointing dog to stand still in any environment.

Practicing these three basic behaviors before going hunting this fall will help you to better handle your bird dog and keep your dog safer on hunts. This helps create a better experience for everyone in the field!
