The Landing Zone Parrot Sanctuary, Inc.

The Landing Zone Parrot Sanctuary, Inc. TLZPS is a conservation and educational organization dedicated to parrots. Our education programs are currently under development.
(9)

Nestled at the foot of the Little San Bernadino Mountains in beautiful Thousand Palms, California, the Landing Zone Parrot Sanctuary plans to be an indoor, climate controlled avian center and will provide entertainment and education in a comfortable environment for our resident parrots and our visitors year round. With your help, our efforts will allow children and adults to visit and view Parrots

of many varieties in a recreation of the species' natural habitat in order to gain rare insight about how the creatures we know now as 'cage-dwellers' live and interact in their natural flocks. The planned sanctuary center will press the seriousness of extinction and importance of conservation to our youngest generations with the hopes of a brighter, more Earth sensitive future.

We just heard Jimmy Buffett has passed away. The Acrisure Arena made a much appreciated donation to TLZPS to honor him when he performed there earlier this year, and Chelsea made him a thank you video featuring several of our parrots. Our sympathy to all the Parrotheads.

Legendary musician Jimmy Buffett, known for breakout hit “Margaritaville” and restaurant empire Margaritaville Café has died on Friday night, according to his official social media accounts and website.

Sharing from 2020, sweet Peaches! We have had an anonymous Monthly Donation of NUTS and the parrots are thrilled! These are a big expense for us and it is much appreciated. If anyone else would like to add a monthly donation of pre-packaged NUTS through Amazon, Sam's Club, Walmart, Costco, grocery stores, or anywhere -- the TLZPS Parrots would LOVE it!!!

We were becoming convinced bird flu wouldn't make it to CA this time. It's reached Northern CA, for clarification, and we're in So CA. Our parrots are all kept indoors, so exposure is entirely minimum, but we will still be aware and protective of our parrots. (Lysol is on hand for entry/exit to bird rooms.)

The Sonoma County Department of Health Services is warning residents "out of an abundance of caution."

Welcome to Mango, the Moluccan cockatoo of indeterminate age (over 15.) She's all fluff and bare skin on the body! She came here from Big Bear area; Laura had taken her in from a customer and friend who had medical issues a few years ago but Mango didn't adapt to family life well so came here for her best interest.

We have many thanks to give, all the way back to those of you who donated generously for Giving Tuesday. Also, for monetary contributions beyond our monthly donations, Ginny Hahn, K'Lynn Pearcy, Melissa Ashby, and Patricia Stern. Food donations were also appreciated, from Miriam (and a double travel cage), Mallory (and a travel cage), Chelsea (vast amounts of pine, macadamia, walnuts, pecans, and more; dates, currants, so many good things!), and anonymous givers. We additionally thank Kelli for toys. We received twelve (12!) small cages from Curtis and are grateful -- our orange fronted parakeets, cockatiels, and conures will receive some upgrades.

Calypso, the 25 year old Catalina macaw, arrived yesterday! He was raised with a family of humans and many assorted animals - but he’s ready to join a group of macaws after quarantine. We are happy to welcome him!

Welcome to Sidney the Congo African Gray from near Death Valley and Pooh the Moluccan from Desert Hot Springs! Sidney's owner and her husband made a seven hour round trip to bring him. She cared for him for 21 years, after taking him in from a friend and getting his feathers to grow back, but she has health problems and needed him to find a new home. Pooh has been cared for by Aura and her family for the past ten years; her special needs children needed more attention so Pooh came here.

Thank you for donations beyond our monthly contributors, who we truly appreciate, to Mallory (travel and small cages), Bonnie ($$ spent on lots of perches and toys), James (the same!), Giselle (more food, cages, toys, perches), and Gary (he brought 4 cages with Casey which we are using); Sidney came with lots of toys and supplies to share, a cage, and food; and Pooh came with food as well. We are thrilled to receive items for our sweet birdies.

Also, there's a 30% off sale at Mazuri for the next few days; if anyone wishes to donate Large Bird Diet and have it delivered here, please do!

Casey the Mealy Amazon was brought here by Gary and his sister from Apple Valley. Casey belonged to their father who passed away and had cared for her for 35 years and she needed a home. We believe she is a Southern mealy and Maya (from a couple weeks ago) is a Northern mealy, from images found online. Welcome, Casey!

MAYA the Amazon and ELVA the spectacled Amazon, both juveniles, have come to stay! The US Fish & Wildlife Service brought these babies by a week ago, after a month of quarantine in New York, and they've been adapting very well. They are able to eat pellets, nuts, and fresh foods, but they still enjoy being hand-fed formula. Elva likes to fly and is a busy-body; Maya is sweet and a little more reserved. Maya appears to be a yellow crowned Amazon as she has a yellow spot on her head and some colorful wing feathers.

The usual reminder -- We are a parrot sanctuary and do not sell birds, so please do not ask.

We've had some donations to acknowledge- thank you! Mallory brought us some soft portable cages and one small plastic portable; we are appreciative as the ones we have are mostly large. Gene donated an XL new cage with toys, bowls & perches, as his gray is always out and never uses it; also he gave us several new blue utility smocks.

And to our new residents... Jon Claude is a yellow recessive pied budgie/parakeet. Jon Claude is very busy and loves to fly around. He really hit it off with Blue the budgie! His family is moving and he had to stay; Skylar will miss him a lot. They gave a much appreciated donation and included his cage and toys/perches/food & bowls.

Ruby is a red spectacled Amazon and knows a lot of words and sounds; he is very lively company. His family had a new baby that caused him great unhappiness so he is staying here. His parents gave a much appreciated donation and included his cage/toys/perches/food & bowls.

Baby the yellow headed Amazon was brought here by Linda and her daughter - they found him in an intolerable situation so brought him here. Baby has only one back toe on each foot but he gets around like it has been a lifelong condition; we do not exactly know his background. He likes to walk on a low bridge of wood and stands on a rope perch to eat. Linda included a much appreciated donation, new travel cage/toys/perches & bowls and plans to sponsor him.

Boo the umbrella cockatoo (she calls herself Baby all the time) was screaming and disturbing her community so she is here now and being so sweet and adorable! Cindy and her daughter are heartbroken to leave her; they included her new travel cage.

A reminder: We do not sell parrots. It is pointless to call and ask.

What is Blue?

If all budgies are parakeets and all conures are parakeets, yet no budgie is a conure and no conure is a budgie, yes, Blue is a parakeet!

An exhausted and weak Blue was dropped off here a few weeks ago. He spent a few days in an incubator getting his strength back, and now he is watching TV and making all kinds of noises - even water running! He has been listed on all the sites for missing birds by the kind woman and her daughter who found him and brought him here, and no one has called for him yet. He's a sweet boy and will stay here if not claimed.
