🦃 Thanksgiving is a time for gratitude, family, friends….and food! While you may want to include your fur baby in the celebrations, there are many foods on the Thanksgiving table your pet should avoid eating that include: chocolate, turkey/ham bones, onions & garlic, alcohol, raisins/grapes, and raw bread dough.
If you want to include your furry friend in the festivities, we recommend the following safe options:
🦃 a SMALL amount of plain, well-cooked, boneless turkey (no butter, deep-fryer oils, seasonings, garlic or onion. Keep turkey/ham bones out of reach. Avoid ham due to salt content.)
🥕 Plain green beans or carrots (no butter, seasonings, garlic or onions)
🎃 a DOLLOP of plain pumpkin (NOT pumpkin pie filling)

November’s Employee Spotlight: Brittiny
Since joining the ACC family in July 2023, Brittiny has helped in many different roles. You may catch her at the front desk, popping into an exam room to assist a technician, or back in pharmacy getting medication around for your pet! Brittiny is also part of the marketing team and is great at coming up with ideas to help educate and interact with our clients. She is always willing to lend a hand to anyone that needs it yet also enjoys pranking her unsuspecting coworkers.
Outside of work, Brittiny loves spending time with her family, especially her two boys, and her Bernese Mountain Dog puppy, Buddy! She also enjoys organizing events, planning monthly get-togethers with friends, experiencing new adventures, and anything outdoors. Brittiny states that she hopes her boys grow to have a love of animals just as much as she does!

Answer: When the ribs are palpable without excess fat
Obesity is a common problem and is recommended that you consult with your veterinarian if your pets weight becomes a concern. Based on a body condition scale, your veterinarian can provide feeding recommendations as well as a possible exercise plan based on your dog’s physical exam. In the event that your dog’s diet and exercise do not seem to help, your veterinarian may want to perform a simple blood test to check your dog’s thyroid levels.
Contact Animal Care Center for further information.
Answer: All of the above
Throughout the summer when temperatures can rise to very hot and humid conditions it is important to understand the effects of life-threatening heat strokes. A few preventative measures that you can take include the following: water availability, shaded areas, and proper grooming. And most importantly it is never advised to leave a pet inside of a vehicle.
Brachycephalic dogs, such as bulldogs, frenchies and boston terriers are far more susceptible to heat stroke due to their shortened airway.
If you suspect your dog is overheated, move your pet to a colder area and apply cool damp towels to the paw pads. Never use ice and seek veterinarian care.
