Washington County pet cooling shelter being set up for this heat wave of a weekend! Stay safe and cool out there everyone!! 😎🐾

If you have a pet and need a place to stay cool, the Wingspan Event and Conference Center, located at 801 NE 34th Avenue in Hillsboro, will be open as a pet-friendly cooling center Saturday, Sunday and Monday from 10 a.m. - 10 p.m. Be sure to bring your pet in a crate, along with a collar, leash, ID tags, comfort items, food and bowls. Ruby is in our sport dog program and has been working towards her BH title (obedience and temperament test for Schutzhund/IGP) with us! Today under the ever amazing judge Jennifer Reid she earned it!! 🤩🎊

Ruby stays/heeling

Everyone got bones for 'lunch' and a little downtime. 🍖🐶 Good practice on sharing space and high value resources, with close supervision and rules of course! No stealing, no guarding, and abandoned bones are free for trades. #BoardandTrain Piper is with us for some resource guarding tendencies as well. So we check in on her 'mine' and 'yours' work too! She took hers to her kennel for a little privacy! A short video from this morning I thought was interesting. The dogs showing the difference between two types of cues. An 'attention getter' (this whistle) and a directional/recall cue (come/come on) Attention getting cues and directionals give us options to give our dogs information, while helping us to avoid overusing or 'wasting' our actual recall cue. As you can see on the whistle the dogs all stop, turn, and give me their attention.
