Some great info from the ASPCA!

Summer is a great time for backyard BBQs. Grilling, fruit trays, salads, mixed drinks, and desserts are delicious for us but may not be safe for our furry friends. Foods to be on the lookout for include grapes/raisins, onions/garlic, chocolate, foods containing xylitol, alcohol, corn on the cob, and meat bones. Be on the lookout for hidden dangers during your next get-together to keep your furry friends safe.

No hot paws, please! Test the ground with your own feet (we all know it's sandal season 😸) or the back of your hand.

☀️🐾 Hot pavement alert! As temperatures rise, so does the risk of paw burns. Protect your pet’s toes by testing the pavement with your hand—if it's too hot for you, it's too hot for them! Opt for walks during cooler hours and stick to grassy areas when possible. Let's keep those paws cool and happy this summer!

Don’t forget we offer doggy field trips!!

This is critical for dogs, especially our longer residents! No stress, no loud barking, no loneliness. It’s a breathe of fresh air for these dogs who have been waiting countless days, weeks, and even months.

We constructed a waiver/form that allows individuals to take dogs out for the day! If that’s something you might be interested in we’d love for you to fill out the form!

We really appreciate the individuals who dedicate their time to helping our dogs while they wait for their forever homes. This is a great way to help out, especially if you cannot adopt, plus it’s free!

Weekends are highly preferred, but now that it’s summer we have some limited weekday times as well. Please be able to pick up in the morning (8-10) and bring back between 4:00-5:00x Dogs can go anywhere within a 2 hour drive from the rescue.

Some fun ideas that people have done are:
-sniff spots
-the beach
-champoeg
-hikes
-a relaxing day at home

There are so many possibilities! Dogs would be more than happy to go on an adventure or have a relaxing day at your home away from the rescue. 🐾

🌺 Have you washed your hummingbird feeders yet this week? Here's your reminder to wash your feeder to help keep our tiny flying gem friends healthy!

1. Empty and disassemble

2. Clean the reservoir with a mixture of 1/4 cup distilled white vinegar, 1 quart water, and a bottle brush; rinse well with warm water

3. Soak the other parts (feeding ports, perches, etc) in the vinegar mixture for 10 minutes; rinse well with warm water

4. Air dry or use a microfiber towel. Reassemble and fill with fresh sugar water (1/4 cup granulated sugar for every 1 cup water).

When your snacks look eerily similar 🤣

Did you know that licking helps soothe anxiety and stress, provides mental stimulation (which can help prevent boredom and destructive behaviors), and can be a helpful distraction during bathing/grooming?

LickiMat is a huge hit in our house and with boarding & daycare dogs.

Peanut butter, canned food, canned pumpkin, mashed banana, yogurt... You can even pop it in the freezer to give them a cool treat! What would you use as a treat in a licki mat?

I painted this little house and put it out front with a roll of dog bags, hoping anyone walking by with their dog who was in need of a bag would find this helpful and look! I found this sweet note 🥰 I'm so glad it was useful to someone! I've been in that position, thinking I had a bag or had run out of bags when Zeus decides to p**p for a THIRD time 😅 Someone else in the neighborhood had bags out at one point that I used every once in awhile so I wanted to pay it forward.

My 1st (and very likely last) cat boarder. This was a last-minute Rover Sitter transfer of a kitty and doggo. Kitty has been good, but it's disrupted my cats normal routine and space. She's been enjoying the wildlife viewing though (squirrels and birds)!

🛀 Bathtime, a progression 😆 This little guy JUMPED into the tub as I was filling it, he couldn't wait for spa time! Massage with a little Dawn and some oatmeal shampoo with a rubber curry brush, he's gonna tell all his friends 🐕🦮🐶🐕‍🦺🐩

Brushed, nails trimmed, ears cleaned, bathed, and dried, now he's snoozing away while I clean up.

If you've had a pet who has surgery, you know how it can be and the looks you can get. Zeus had a TPLO surgery on his hind left leg a few days ago. He's doing well! Still waiting for swelling and bruising to dissipate but he's taking meds like a champ and staying is his (not pictured) confinement area nicely and even wears his (not pictured) cone.
