Owner’s Description: Ellis Boyd is a one year old bluetick coonhound/tree walker coonhound. He was the product of an accidental litter in rural Virginia. His current owner can no longer provide the environment that he requires due to a tragic loss in the family. He is very good with other dogs and children (even young). Cuddles are a MUST. He enjoys sleeping under the covers. He is a jumper and is slightly food aggressive around other dogs. He is also food aggressive around other dogs when provided with treats and/or rawhides. Needs to be fed apart from others. He likes to dig and has found multiple underground pipes in his current owners backyard. Despite a hardy diet, he is still rather thin and needs to bulk up. I’d like to say he is crate trained but he struggles with it… especially with p*e. He has been neutered, is up-to-date on his shots, and microchipped. Definitely needs a home that is willing to use him as a working dog. His boredom causes anxiety-induced destructive behavior (chewing). He will run once he catches a scent and tends to be stubborn so either a fenced-in yard or electric fence would be necessary until trained appropriately. He absolutely requires an owner with hound experience.
He is named after Morgan Freeman’s character in Shawshank redemption, and that is very accurate, considering his many escape attempts.
