Happy Monday, friends! We have a small announcement to make! We are going to be implementing winter hours for the time being. With the sun going down so early, we're not seeing as many of your lovely faces. Until further notice our hours are as follows:
Monday- Saturday 11:00am-6:00pm
Sundays: 11am-4pm
If you're ever running behind and need me to stay late, I'm happy to do so! Just call. We're only implementing these new hours because we're just not seeing any business after about 5:30.

Our January Paint Your Pet! with Pups and Purrtraits is this Friday!! We still have a few spots, but they're filling fast! Call or message to reserve your spot now! You don't want to miss out.

Alright friends. Let's talk. You may see this info graphic floating around on social media. Unfortunately the current social media posts are inaccurate. There are of course some pet food recalls, but as of right now the only confirmed recalls are Victor, Blue Ridge Beef, Star Pro, Country Acres, Legacy, Hill County Fair, Texas Pets, Member's Mark, Exclusive, Retriever, Paws and Claws, and Wayne Feed. To access a full and up to date recall list it is publicly available at

So, why? Unfortunately, this is likely being spread around to cause fear in consumers and drive them into the arms of another company. Unfortunately fear sells. A great example is the great DCM debacle that began in 2019. In 2019 Hill's Science Diet (owned by the Colgate-Palmolive Company) and Royal Canin (owned by Mars Inc., yes the candy company) funded research that set out to prove grain free dog food causes heart issues in dogs. A large list of dog foods thought to cause DCM was spread around social media and at the top of the list was Acana, and Orijen was also on this list. The FDA has since published that there is not consistent evidence to prove that grain free dog food is the cause or even connected to these cases of non hereditary Dilated cardiomyopathy. You know what other interesting thing has happened since these lists were published? Mars (Royal Canins owners) bought Champion Pet, the creators and owners of Acana and Orijen dog food. These fear tactics were used to drive the value down so that a 94 Billion dollar company could save some money while buying out another small pet food company.

If i hear anything different I will post. If I see any recalls on common foods I'll make sure I keep it updated in here. But for the time being, there is no evidence to support these posts.

Happy Friday, friends! A few days ago we had a Girl Scout leader reach out with questions about help with a badge for their troop. As a former girl scout myself, I was delighted to help out. If your Girl Scout or Boy Scout troop is looking to do a tour or would like a lesson in pet care, business ownership, or volunteer opportunities with our rescue kitties I am happy to help. We can customize the experience to meet your troops needs.

Don't forget tomorrow is Puppo Picasso - Your Pet the Artist - Bookmark! This is an event for both the pups and the human kiddos! It's cold and gross and playing outside isn't a lot of fun right now, so bring the kids in for a fun craft!

Tonight around 6:30pm a fire broke out in our laundry room. Our volunteers called the Tinley Park fire department, who quickly came out to control the situation. While the fire remained in our laundry room, the smoke took over the rest of our shelter, affecting our animals. Our friends at Midwest answered our call immediately and sent out their veterinarians and staff to take our animals out of the shelter for treatment. Currently over 100 animals are hospitalized at Midwest being monitored for smoke inhalation. 14 cats and 2 dogs are showing signs of respiratory distress.

We are so grateful to Midwest Animal Hospital (it’s nearly midnight and their staff is still there caring for our animals), the Tinley Park Fire department, our volunteers and community who rushed out in our time of need.

If you are looking to help, we will need monetary donations to help pay for our vet bills, a new dryer and repairs.

We will be closed until further notice while our shelter undergoes cleaning and repairs.

I want to thank everyone for their understanding of us closing yesterday. Being able to make choices to keep myself and our staff safe is one of the things I appreciate most about the support I get. Last year was a challenge. This year is looking like another one. We're still rebuilding our social media following, growing our shop, and enhancing our business partnerships. We hope to continue being a piece of this amazing community that surrounds us.

January and February are a challenging time for small businesses. People aren't out shopping, it's cold, weather causes days where we make little to no money. Small businesses need your support now more than ever. Today if you have an opportunity pop by your favorite small business pages. Give them a like, a comment, a share, mark interest on their events on their events pages. All of these tell Facebook people are interested and will share us further. Leaving reviews is huge for us. Facebook grades us on our reviews, and your communities trust your opinions. Find their Instagram and tiktok. Social media keeps small businesses alive. Let's water all of our friends gardens today. Bonjour, friends! We're here until 7pm! Meet Belle, the 12 (ish) week old, domestic long hair, calico kitten! Now, it's no wonder that her name means "beauty", her looks have got no parallel. She is stunning and sweet. She is available for adoption at The Barketplace Tinley Park through Wish Upon A Rescue.

Speaking of book worms, don't forget Barks and Books Book Club is the 28th! We still have book boxes available in store! Pick one up so you can spend tomorrow's snow day reading this moving story of love, friendship, grief, healing, and the magical bond between a woman and her dog.

Now that we're talking about tomorrow, we are watching the weather. If conditions are unsafe we will not be opening. If conditions become unsafe we will close early. We will keep social media updated as we know what is going on!
