Cancer Prevention: Tips and Diagnostics to Consider. As an integrative veterinary oncologist, I believe that proactive care is essential in keeping our pets healthy! Here are 3 key tips to help ensure you are taking action in becoming your pets best advocate:1️⃣ Annual Physical Exam: Regular check-ups are crucial! During an annual exam, veterinarians thoroughly assess your pet’s health by listening to the heart and lungs, examining the mouth and under the tongue, checking the ears, performing a full rectal exam, and palpating the belly for any abnormalities. These evaluations help us catch any changes early, allowing for timely intervention and better outcomes.2️⃣ Complete Blood Panel: Don’t skip this step! A comprehensive blood panel—including a CBC, serum chemistry, and urinalysis—provides valuable insights into your pet’s health. Additional tests like a thyroid panel, vitamin D test, C-reactive protein, or haptoglobin (for cats) can help us understand their immune response and any inflammatory conditions.3️⃣ Chest X-Ray & Abdominal Ultrasound: These diagnostic tools are vital for cancer screening. While physical exams and routine bloodwork are important, some issues can only be detected through imaging, giving us a clearer picture of your pet’s health.#PetHealth #CancerPrevention #VeterinaryOncology #HealthyPets #IntegrativeMedicine #petcancerprevention #cancerpreventionmonth #cancerinpets #diagnostics #physicalexam #bloodpanel #imaging
