Pets exposed to secondhand smoke have higher cancer risk.

Secondhand smoke doesn’t just affect people, it lingers in fur, bedding, and the air pets breathe daily. Studies show dogs exposed to smoke have higher risks of nasal and lung cancers, while cats are more prone to oral cancers due to grooming smoke particles off their fur. Creating a smoke-free environment is a simple but powerful step in protecting your pet’s long-term health.

Lawn chemicals are linked to higher cancer rates in dogs.

The “perfect lawn” may come with hidden costs. Studies link herbicides and pesticides to increased risk of bladder cancer and lymphoma in dogs. Because pets walk barefoot, sniff, and roll in the grass, their exposure is often greater than ours. Switching to pet-safe lawn care not only protects your pet but also reduces toxin build-up in your home environment.

Many household cleaners contain carcinogens.

Pets spend their lives close to the ground, where residues from cleaners linger. Chemicals like bleach, ammonia, and formaldehyde are common in conventional cleaning products and can contribute to long-term cancer risk. Opt for non-toxic or homemade cleaners, safe for you, safe for them. Reaching for easy to use free apps like The Environmental Working Group or Yuca can help to identify safer alternatives to products you are already using. A clean home should never come at the cost of your pet’s health.

Did you know that exercise boosts the immune system and helps fight cancer cells?

Movement is medicine for pets just as it is for humans. Regular walks, active play, and enrichment activities keep weight in check and stimulate immune cells that detect and destroy abnormal (potentially cancerous) cells. Aim for daily activity that gets your dog moving or keeps your cat engaged, it’s one of the simplest and most powerful cancer prevention strategies.

Learn more about action steps you can put into effect immediately during my FREE online pet cancer prevention summit on Nov 22nd & 23rd. Be sure to register with the link in my bio for exclusive access!

Obese pets live shorter lives and face higher cancer risks.

Obesity isn’t just about extra weight, it’s about inflammation, insulin resistance, and hormonal imbalance. All of these fuel cancer growth. Maintaining a healthy weight adds years of quality life for pets. Small changes, like portion control, higher protein diets, and daily movement, go a long way. Your pet’s waistline could be their strongest defense against cancer.

Learn more about what you can do to prevent cancer in your pet during my free live online summit where myself and a panel of guest speakers will be providing insight on topics like this! It’s FREE, be sure to register via the link in my bio to get exclusive access to the event.

The average human will develop cancer seven times in their lifetime.

Cancer is becoming more common in both humans and pets, and this startling statistic shows why prevention matters. The same environmental toxins, poor diets, and lifestyle stressors that affect us also affect our pets. By creating a healthier home, fresh food, reduced toxins, daily exercise, we’re lowering cancer risk for everyone in the household.

In honor of pet cancer prevention month, myself and other leading experts in the field will be hosting a two day live online summit for FREE Nov 22nd & 23rd. This is for pet parents to learn practical tools and actionable steps they can take today for their pets and their families. Register for the event via the link in my bio!

Dogs are five times more likely to get cancer than people.

Our pets don’t just share our homes, they share our risks. Dogs are diagnosed with cancer at five times the rate of humans, partly because of their size, shorter lifespans, and closer contact with environmental toxins. By making mindful choices for our pets, like safe cleaning products, toxin-free yards, and high-quality diets, we’re protecting not just them, but the whole family. 🌍💚

Certain breeds are genetically predisposed to cancer.

Golden Retrievers, Boxers, and Bernese Mountain Dogs are just a few breeds at higher risk for cancer due to their genetics. If your dog belongs to one of these breeds, prevention and early detection should be top priorities. Regular checkups, breed-specific screenings, and lifestyle adjustments (such as antioxidant-rich diets and toxin avoidance) can make all the difference. Taking it even further to use integrative diagnostics to assess for early changes in their bodies that can drive cancer can help catch problems before they have a chance to form cancer cells. Knowing your dog’s risks helps you take control of their long-term health!

1 in 3 dogs will be diagnosed with cancer in their lifetime. 1 in 2 over the age of 10.

Cancer is sadly the #1 disease-related cause of death in dogs, affecting up to half of them! But here’s the hopeful truth: many risk factors are preventable. From keeping your dog at a healthy weight to minimizing environmental toxins, every proactive step counts. Identifying early risk factors through an integrative approach helps to catch early changes before they begin to form cancer cells. Don’t wait until something is wrong, prevention starts today.
