10 THINGS YOUR DOG WOULD TELL YOU...🖤

1. My life is likely to last 10 to 15 years. Any separation from you will be painful: remember that before you get me.

2. Give me time to understand what you want of me.

3. Place your trust in me- it is crucial to my well being.

4. Do not be angry at me for long, and do not lock me up as punishment.

5. You have your work, your entertainment,and your friends. I only have you.

6. Talk to me sometimes. Even if I don’t understands your words, I understand your voice when it is speaking to me.

7. Be aware that how ever you treat me, I will never forget.

8. Remember before you hit me that I have teeth that could easily hurt you, but I choose not to bite you because I love you.

9. Before you scold me for being uncooperative, obstinate, or lazy, ask yourself if something might be bothering me. Perhaps I might not be getting the right food, or I have been out too long, or my heart is getting too old and weak.

10. Take care of me when I get old; you too will grow old. Go with me on difficult journeys. Never say: “I cannot bear to watch” or “Let it happen in my absence.” Everything is easier for me if you are there, even my death.🐾

Many people have invited a new dog into their lives over the holidays. If you are about to adopt a new family member you may find this helpful....and a lot of this is the same information for when you move house with your family dog you have had for years.

Newly adopted dogs don't know you.
You know your intentions are good, unfortunately they don't.

Trust takes time. Building a relationship takes time and many people think in a few days they should be fine.....
No.....in a few days they can be just as stressed as when they first arrived....but it WILL get better and better.

Everything is new.
It smells different.
It sounds different.
The people around them are different and it can be scary.

Take it slow.
Let them understand their new world in small, predictable ways.
Keep a routine.
Keep as much as possible the same as the rescue may have advised.
Don't wash the grubby blanket that came with them...they may need those scents....it may be all they find comfort in.
If you have been told they are good with other dogs/pets....great ! However that doesn't mean they need to be immediately introduced....they know other animals are near, they can sense them and smell them....they don't need to meet just yet.

Sights are new.
Sounds are new.
Scents are new.....everything your dog uses to navigate the world is new and can be scary.

You both have time.....time to trust, and that goes both ways....new dogs can behave in unpredictable ways, so be prepared it may not be all smooth sailing.

You WILL get there.......and the best way to do this is slowly

We have received another wonderful update (pictures) about a girl adopted from DREAM pet rescue. MS. LUCY came to DREAM (summer 2021) from our county shelter after she had given birth to her pups and they were adopted. Sadly, her poor immune system and compromised healthy resulted in severe mastitis and hair loss (she came to us after county staff took her to Medvet and said she needed "constant care "). LUCY then became a "SURVIVOR" of death during her surgery required to treat the severe case of mastitis. She landed in a foster family that gave her all she needed (and more) to heal and prepare for a forever home, which we thought would be her forever home.... until (Feb 2022) we received an application that stated the girl they lost was extremely similar to LUCY (and LUCY may have been one of the pups from their beloved pet while she was also in the same county shelter). After the trial period, it was determined by all that LUCY was the perfect fit for the family, and Ms. Lucy is certainly living her/our DREAM !!! 😍🥰

Yes, an ideal world would be filled with perfectly bred puppies created from carefully genetically tested parents.

Yet there are so many dogs in rescues and who already exist.

It's easy to think that a family dog must come from a good breeder and arrive in their home already habituated to life as a family dog, for everyone's sake.

It's tempting to fight for the 'right' to have a puppy from a breeder.

Yet many dogs haven't come into the world through ideal circumstances.

Yet when they settle in are perfect companions.

Not all rescue dogs are broken, most are just a bit lost.

Morally and ethically they ARE our responsibility.

Let's not let them down.

Another rehoming request (sigh!!!) for a pb terrier showing signs of FRUSTRATION/aggression because owner chose not to train early (and is not providing physical/mental exercise needed) so NOW thinks euthanizing is the solution ;-( SO MANY already waiting in county shelters and rescue groups ! THIS BREED is highly intelligent and NEEDS mental and physical exercise DAILY....otherwise you have a very frustrated and unruly companion in yr home ;-( Apt living is not recommended for this breed UNLESS you plan on DAILY and vigorous exercise (mental and physical) to help this breed be their best.

Pit Bull Laws House Bill 14 passed in February 2012. HB 14 removed pit bull type dogs from automatically labeled as vicious. HB 14 did NOT remove bans, restrictions or insurance requirements...

Can someone tell me WHAT is the BEST tool for trimming dog's nails? In particular, rescue dogs that always seem sensitive (fearful and anxious) with nail trims ;-( Is there a QUIET dremel out there or are clippers the better choice/resource ? Do you use a lick mat while trimming nails and calming chews or ??? What's your secret to quick nail trims when a trip to the vet or groomer is not feasible?

Just a reminder....... young Willow (currently w/a foster in Miami County, OH) is still waiting for her forever person and home. She is quite the laid back young girl, after she has finished her morning routine of "squirrel watching" and breakfast and tummy rubs, and a short session of play. 😍 She's spayed, vetted, and very treat oriented so that's a necessity with her "here/come" command; cause she can be focused on finding a squirrel, cat, rabbit, mouse or whatever little critter runs, lol. Then she's ready for "her quiet time" in front of anything that provides heat, lol You or a furnace vent or a portable heater or fireplace . Car rides ANYWHERE excite this girl, and she thinks every person she visits is equally excited. THANK YOU Adopt-a-Pit rescue for helping these 2 abandoned pups in need. Montgomery County ARC would not pick them up (when called) SOOOO a concerned citizen brought them to their center AND she sat there from 11 - 3:30 - telling them she would not leave until they found a place for these 2 abandoned pups (which were believed to be related to a STRAY DOG, the momma, picked up a few weeks earlier). Steve and Jamie, employees at the Montgomery County ARC, stepped up to FIND placement for these pups (as they are constantly full of stray/abandoned/surrendered dogs). Thankfully ADOPT A PIT rescue group said YES !!!! Once again proving it takes a team of "rescue warriors" to help with all the dogs & pups in need. NOW they are safe and warm.
