West Place Animal Sanctuary

West Place Animal Sanctuary provides a permanent home and lifelong care to farm animals rescued from cruelty, abuse, and neglect cases.

West Place receives no Federal or state funding and is dependent on donations and public support. Founded in 2007 with a desire to help wildlife and farm animals in need. Since our beginnings we have helped 1,000 wildlife and several dozen farm animals and horses, offering rehabilitation and sanctuary.

New year, same West Place! Although it's been a cold start to 2025, our animals have been using it as an excuse to get some extra cuddles in (especially the pigs!).

Even on chilly days like today, the work at West Place doesn't stop! It's important to remember we are here 7 days a week, rain or shine, caring for all of our amazing animals.

We're proud to welcome the Rhode Island Energy Foundation as a supporter of West Place Animal Sanctuary and our humane education efforts. Through an Empowering Communities Grant, the RI Energy Foundation is helping to power the Bobbert Memorial Scholarship Fund, which keeps our popular Educational Internship program free of cost to students and their families.

Dozens of high school and college students flock to West Place each school year and summer to gain valuable hands-on experience with farm animals and wildlife. Internships are immersive learning experiences that shape the future of our young animal welfare advocates, and provide a real-world education that can't be obtained anywhere else.

More than 25 students are currently enrolled in the school-year session and we are still seeking scholarships to cover every student. Follow the lead of the RI Energy Foundation and others and establish your scholarship today at www.westplace.org/bobbert-memorial

We are blown away by the support received so far in our end of the year match campaign! 🎁

On this day two years ago, tragedy struck West Place. Our sanctuary lost 38 beloved birds to avian flu and the response measures taken by the USDA and the state. Today, we remember and honor the lives lost. We pay tribute to our feathered friends by continuing to rescue, rehabilitate, and responsibly care for ducks, geese, turkeys, hens, roosters, pheasants, partridges, peacocks, quail and others in need of care. It hasn’t been easy, but thanks to support through the Birds of West Place Memorial Fund, we continue to recover, rebuild, and return to normal. #BirdsOfWestPlace #farmlife #animals
