Come out and join us, March 22nd for this fun, family friendly Scarecrow workshop! This will include some basic pest management techniques for your garden, including the use of scarecrows. Participants are invited to bring old items from home, including dresses, skirts, scarves, bandanas, hats, gloves, aprons, button-up shirts, pants, and overalls to secure to the scarecrows. Actively Spring Cleaning!? Feel free to drop off collected items from Monday-Thursday, 8am-4pm to the farm to support this workshop.

Wow! The 21st annual Toledo GROWs Seed Swap was the biggest yet. We had a blast welcoming 1,300 participants to the beautiful Scott High School. Special thanks to our sponsor Premier Bank for making it possible to throw a great “garden party”! 31 community and environmental groups provided information and expert gardening advice. We are still crunching the numbers, but we are confident in saying that more than 15,000 packets of seeds walked away in the hands of gardeners eager to get their hands in the soil!

Event Location: Scott High School (2400 Collingwood Blvd). Use Door #2 to enter.

Additional Parking: In the UAW next door (2300 Ashland Ave)

Are you preparing your saved seeds to swap at Toledo GROWs’ Seed Swap? Please be sure to package them in individual envelopes (see photo for example), clearly marked with the type of seed. Mark the year they were gathered (2023 or 2024 only). Noting some basic planting tips is also very helpful. Each packet can be exchanged for a ticket to choose other seeds – limit 50 per person.

No seeds to exchange? No problem. Every guest receives 5 tickets to exchange for seed packets. Additional tickets are available for a donation of 50 cents each.

🌱Seed Swap is Saturday, February 22th from 12-3pm at Scott High School in Toledo.

🌼 How to Love Your Pollinators:
💛 Plant pollinator-friendly flowers like milkweed, lavender, and sunflowers. 🌻
🚫 Skip harmful pesticides that will also harm bee and butterflies. ❌
💦 Provide fresh water sources like shallow dishes with pebbles. 💧
🏡 Leave some wild spaces in your yard—pollinators love natural habitats! 🌿

Take a moment to appreciate the art of pollination and beauty of our pollinators. Worldwide, approximately 1,000 plants grown for food, beverages, fibers, spices, and medicines need to be pollinated by animals in order to produce the goods on which we depend. Research how you can support our pollinators today and everyday

Honey bees are excellent communicators and use both smell and movement to convey messages. The most extraordinary method of communication is a honey bee’s ability to dance with precision and show the exact location of a new nectar source. They will perform a series of carefully choreographed movements called a "waggle dance" which will accurately pinpoint the source in relation to the sun and the hive. She will also share a sample of the nectar so that they can easily identify the smell and taste. We love our bees at Toledo GROWs, Happy Beekeeping!
