The Lake Sturgeon conservation efforts of the Toledo Zoo, and its partners in the Ohio Division of Wildlife and U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, will be featured in Mutual of Omaha's Wild Kingdom Protecting the Wild docuseries, streaming on Jan. 25!

Since the first event in 2018, local partners have released 3,000 fish yearly into Lake Erie, which helps support a healthy ecosystem.

We're grateful for the national recognition of our team's dedication toward sturgeon conservation and hope it inspires a broader community to join us in our mission.

The next Sturgeon Fest is scheduled for Oct. 11, 2025.

Winter adventures await at Toledo Zoo! ❄️☃️🐾

Guests can roam the Zoo while enjoying warm spaces in cool places like the Aquarium, Aviary, Arctic Encounter and ProMedica Museum of Natural History.

Many animals, like Watusi cattle, Snow leopards, Amur tigers, Brown bears, Red pandas, Grey wolves and cheetahs have the option to explore their outdoor exhibits during winter.

Please note: while keepers provide this choice, we can’t guarantee if or how long they’ll be outside.

Admission is half-off in Jan.

Zoo hours: Mon. – Sun. from 10 a.m. – noon, Zoo closes at 2 p.m.

Our baby armadillo is on a roll! In just 9 weeks, this little one has gone from a tiny 132 grams to an impressive 709 grams—already half the size of mom, Honeybee! 🎊

Keepers have observed the pup starting to explore the nest box, and soon, they’ll be weaning off nursing to try some solid foods.

The armadillos currently reside in the Aviary and aren’t viewable just yet, but we’ll keep sharing updates on their progress.

We are otterly obsessed with our newest residents! 🦦🦦🦦🦦

Toledo Zoo is thrilled to announce the arrival of four North American river otters!

Tilly (mom) and Winston (dad), who have been Toledo Zoo residents for six years, welcomed two male and two female pups on Dec. 7.

While the gestation period is only about two months, fertilized eggs remain dormant for several months in female otters due to delayed implantation. This process helps ensure the litter arrives during winter and spring, giving them the best chance to survive in their natural habitats.

Both Tilly and her babies are thriving and receiving routine checks from our keepers. Winston is currently separated from them for the time being as female otters are the sole caretakers of their pups. Our team is beyond proud of Tilly for instinctively providing exceptional care and nurturing her little ones.

Before they make their exhibit debut this spring, the pups will learn to swim in a small pool and be introduced to Winston in a controlled environment.

We’ll be revealing their names soon so stay tuned for updates!
